Why awful? They are with Denmark and in the "supposedly easy" semifinal!

Of course semi 2 is easier! Semi 1 is filled with regular qualifiers. The only 'guaranteed' qualifiers in semi 2 are Ukraine and Romania. That means at least 8 slots up for grabs compared to about 2 in the other semi...

Just because certain countries never failed to qualify does not mean they are guaranteed qualifiers. People thought the same thing about Sweden and we all know what happened to them.

Come on, it's not the same Sweden than Russia, Turkey or Armenia, even Greece...

yes, we are so "guaranteed" ... did you watch recent JESC? You think that the last place (Belgium and Netherlands finished higher) in the contest filled with our neighbours is a guarntee? Interesting logic

Come on AlekS! You have 4 songs in your NF that guarantee TOP 10 for any country and you are afraid you won't pas?

As for :ro: and :md:, we are definetly not like :tr: and :az:. Only :md: is obligued to give us 12 because bad things will happen to them if they don't but we don't give :md: 12 all the times, now with the juries. Our jury gave them 0 last year, when IMO it was the only time :md: desereved our 12.

For us it's a good draw. We have :md:, :cy:, :bg:, :dk:, :ie: and :it: + a great song :D

Re: Eurovision 2011 - Semi final allocation draw

It's interesting to see that almost all major "diaspora votes gainers" are in semi 1, while alot of countries that usually have smaller chances compete in semi 2.

Turkey are finally cut off from the guaranteed high points from the Benelux countries, France and Germany, but they still have guaranteed 12p from Azerbaijan and high points from atleast the UK, Switzerland & Albania, so I think they are "safe" as always.

But overall this draw could be very interesting and this could teach EBU something to maybe change how to divide semis in the future.

In semi 2, the country that will benefit the most is Bosnia I think. They are maybe not one of the "top diaspora votes gainers" overall, but they do have quite much diaspora in some countries that have proved willing to vote and now they compete with someone that is a big ex-Yugo star that alot of Bosnian diaspora and also other ex-Yugo diaspora around Europe knows and likes, also Dino is generally known in the ex-Yugo region, so these countries will help out aswell.

In semi 2 they'll have Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia & Macedonia to probably secure them qualification.

Ukraine on the other hand have been cut off from most of their so called "best friends", now they have "only" Moldova, Israel and Belarus. But they have such strong entries in their selection so if they chose any of Zlata, Jamala or Anastasiya, they would have no problem qualifying anyhow imo.

Offcourse we should not forget about the biased juries aswell, that will help countries like Malta, Ireland, Iceland and Portugal, most of these countries are in the first semi though, and they'll probably need the help looking at the fact that they'll compete with most of the usual strongest contenders.

Slovakia will struggle alot in the second semi because they usually don't have jury support, and nor do they have any other type of support.

What bad things could happen to Moldova if they don't give the 12 to Romania? :|

You can't be sure about Bulgaria. Last year when you had a song in my top 2 and, ultimately, in top 3, Bulgaria gave NO points.
