Besides being obviously unfair I find a total exaggeration to even think to punish teams and players who worked hard for this chance that only comes once every 4 years. Countries with problems get your hooligans screened out or French police get your act straight together. Nobody wants to lose teams out because of a hundred few boneheads

About yesterday's action, I don't think Spain was that boring. They just seemed uninspired up front and besides the Czechs just defended really well. It was a bit like Croatia - Turkey, minus the 100 chances plus the fact that the Czechs do know how to play in defense. Having this said I think Spain might have not called all of their best players...can think of a few names that could have made a diference yesterday.
The important thing was achieved, winning, and at this moment I don't see how the Czech Republic and Turkey can really challenge both Spain and Croatia anyway, so I would not worry.
Have to say that the Irish surprised me positively, was not expecting the match to be that even in goal chances although it seemed clear to me who the superior team was when it comes to ball possession. Sweden did disappoint however. Still, it was the most interesting match to follow yesterday but one of these teams really needed to get 3 points. Considering Italy's luck and Belgium's overall superiority when it comes to controlling matches it could be tricky now to grab one of the the first 2 spots.
Italy were just as disgusting as ever. Self-entitled candidates (just like England) winning a match by a two goal difference when not in control of it at any point. Couldn't be more unfair although Belgium's failures to score probably took many to desperation point. Carrasco and Origi should have been on the starting 11 (plus Mertens maybe too). Or at least for certain Lukaku is not up for the challenge at this point.
The other day I found it a big exaggerated how the Welsh players celebrated their victory over Slovakia but then I was quickly reminded that this was their first ever victory in a European Championship. As for Italy...the way they celebrated their undeserved victory over the Belgians...it seemed like they had won the friggin' Euro already. I hope this team of drama queens shoots itself in the foot sooner or later as usual. They have no chance of winning the Euro playing this way. From the big teams Germany has been the most convincing by far during this first round.
Predictions for today:
-
2-2 (though I can envision Hungary edging out Austria if they play anything like they did during the playoff match)
-
3-1
I think Iceland will play offensive football and that might cost them a few goals if we're on a good day. We have the most bipolar football team in Europe however and tremble all the way out against teams perceived as weaker in reputation. Fernando Santos came to change this unbalance a little however and we don't look so Ronaldo dependent anymore these days as other solutions have also emerged meanwhile since the last World Cup.
To be honest I liked what I saw from our friendly matches but I just hope that the team hasn't blown their morale over away ever since arriving in France though. News have been reporting a little of a circus with the disapora in France and although I'm sure Santos can keep the team as realistic as possible like no other manager could in many years, some of our players (yes, the arrogant ones...Ronaldo, Nani, etc.) will be facing the competition as if a title candidate is on field despite having zero reasons to think that way (as we have never won anything really, so..)
