Although Ukraine lost, I am scared of them. They're though!

Well, they were only very strong between 30th and 45th minute but we made it easy for them cause our defense play is a big mess and slapstick. I watched every match after world cup and it was nearly always like this.. even Gibraltar got quite some chances when we played against them. We can only be successful when we play dominant with much possession like we did in the second half.
One could see that Ukraine got tired in the second half and we controlled them. Ukraine can put the opponent under pressure for a while but not all the time. If Poland play the best they can they will win. But it will be close, no doubt.

How did Croatia failed to win by at least 10-0? Seriously, Turkey should be very greatful to not have been humiliated in a Gibraltar-like defeat. Very impressed by the Croats, for sure the team which displayed best football in this edition so far. The weakest link was Mandzukic but then again he didn't get that many chances and when he did it was clear he was not going through an inspired day. Other than that great defense (Corluka...what a champ) and dream-team worthy midfielders (very impressed by Perisic's performance). And as far as I'm concerned I've already forgotten all about Payet's goal. Modric's was far superior. Made me jump from my seat like I hadn't in quite a while. What a bomb. Hope to see Croatia keeping this level up, only thing missing is to refine finalization, really. Other than that, walking class through the fields of France xclap

Poland on the other hand was very disappointing (not to say very dull). Northern Ireland defended well, certainly, but Poland had the obligation to do better against the weakest team of the group.

Was able to watch most of 2nd half of Germany - Ukraine after all and was happy to confirm what I said yesterday. When Germany really wants, Germany really plays. They did not even need max. force to beat an Ukraine that was a bit below expected level. Still, I saw more in a half from Ukraine than from Poland in 90 minutes. So the match between these two should turn out interesting.

Predictions for today:

:es: - :cz: 2-1

:ie: - :se: 0-3

:be: - :it: 2-1

:es: 2016 - the most boring team to watch ever. A team who doesn't "really" want to score until after the 85th minute. A pass to the right. A pass to the left. And then score when the Czechs are really tired and sleepy. Frustrating to watch.

Moving through Germany
Tbh the czechs were also frustrating. Quite difficult to score, when you're opponent is defending with 10 players inside the penalty area xboring

Well,

Spain 1-0 Czech Republic

Group D after the first matches:

Spain 3 pts
Croatia 3 pts
Czech Republic 0 pts
Turkey 0 pts

I really expect a revision from :tr: Because the way we play really sucks. Arda shouldn't be in the first XI with his worst form ever. On the other hand Emre Mor excites me. Considering we always have bad starts in the tournaments we take part, I am not totally desperate. But damn, what a group! I think it's nearly impossible to get 3 points from Spain. So our only hope will be trying to get 3 points from Czech Republic which is also quite difficult at the last match -it may be like a final for both of the teams-.

+++ I support :se: and :it: Italy today, and they are probably gonna lose just because I support.

Russia given suspended disqualification over their disgusting actions against England and its fans on Saturday!!! Great news, hopefully disqualification will happen what with trouble brewing in Lille.

Surely it would be better if there was no trouble and Russia stayed in?

People were so quick to blame England fans for the hooliganism and it wasn't even the English fans. I'm glad UEFA wasn't biased against England for once.

Besides being obviously unfair I find a total exaggeration to even think to punish teams and players who worked hard for this chance that only comes once every 4 years. Countries with problems get your hooligans screened out or French police get your act straight together. Nobody wants to lose teams out because of a hundred few boneheads xshrug

Learn from these fans instead:

About yesterday's action, I don't think Spain was that boring. They just seemed uninspired up front and besides the Czechs just defended really well. It was a bit like Croatia - Turkey, minus the 100 chances plus the fact that the Czechs do know how to play in defense. Having this said I think Spain might have not called all of their best players...can think of a few names that could have made a diference yesterday.
The important thing was achieved, winning, and at this moment I don't see how the Czech Republic and Turkey can really challenge both Spain and Croatia anyway, so I would not worry.

Have to say that the Irish surprised me positively, was not expecting the match to be that even in goal chances although it seemed clear to me who the superior team was when it comes to ball possession. Sweden did disappoint however. Still, it was the most interesting match to follow yesterday but one of these teams really needed to get 3 points. Considering Italy's luck and Belgium's overall superiority when it comes to controlling matches it could be tricky now to grab one of the the first 2 spots.

Italy were just as disgusting as ever. Self-entitled candidates (just like England) winning a match by a two goal difference when not in control of it at any point. Couldn't be more unfair although Belgium's failures to score probably took many to desperation point. Carrasco and Origi should have been on the starting 11 (plus Mertens maybe too). Or at least for certain Lukaku is not up for the challenge at this point.
The other day I found it a big exaggerated how the Welsh players celebrated their victory over Slovakia but then I was quickly reminded that this was their first ever victory in a European Championship. As for Italy...the way they celebrated their undeserved victory over the Belgians...it seemed like they had won the friggin' Euro already. I hope this team of drama queens shoots itself in the foot sooner or later as usual. They have no chance of winning the Euro playing this way. From the big teams Germany has been the most convincing by far during this first round.

Predictions for today:

:at: - :hu: 2-2 (though I can envision Hungary edging out Austria if they play anything like they did during the playoff match)

:pt: - :is: 3-1

I think Iceland will play offensive football and that might cost them a few goals if we're on a good day. We have the most bipolar football team in Europe however and tremble all the way out against teams perceived as weaker in reputation. Fernando Santos came to change this unbalance a little however and we don't look so Ronaldo dependent anymore these days as other solutions have also emerged meanwhile since the last World Cup.
To be honest I liked what I saw from our friendly matches but I just hope that the team hasn't blown their morale over away ever since arriving in France though. News have been reporting a little of a circus with the disapora in France and although I'm sure Santos can keep the team as realistic as possible like no other manager could in many years, some of our players (yes, the arrogant ones...Ronaldo, Nani, etc.) will be facing the competition as if a title candidate is on field despite having zero reasons to think that way (as we have never won anything really, so..)

Omg yes. But I cannot see this being the case given the Russian yobs in question.

I normally would object to a team being punished due to the actions of fans but in this case it is justified, it is clear to any reasonable person that the actions of Russians on Saturday effected the last quarter of an hour of the match, and therefore it quite reasonable to believe that it effected the result.

Even though I'm absolutely against any kind of hooliganism, I really have no idea why are always the teams and organizations punished when they have nothing to do with it. It's simply unfair. The only ones that should be punished here are the organizers/French police/whoever was responsible to keep things on spot and the hooligans themselves. What the hell do the teams have to do with that?

I have also read that Croatian football organization will most probably get a fine because one Croatian fan has got into pitch when Modrić scored to hug him. Sorry but I really don't see how is the organization responsible for that and why should they pay the fine if they get it. Someone should have stopped him.

If I didn't miss something. :?

Russia have to be kicked out of the tournament NOW! They have been looking for more fights at Lille today with the English fans and now Welsh fans, with a few Irish and surprisingly Scots there too. Home nations stick together.
