By the way, here's the original version of the song the hosts "remixed" for the intro, a hip-hop classic from 2004

It's kind of weird that they rarely showed the price of voting, especially if it's that high. I'm sure there are regulations about stuff like that.

Estonia is in the 2nd semi, so who knows..

Did you honestly believe Estonia would qualify in 2013?
OK, so I looked it up (took a lot of digging on an old hard drive). My top 10 for 2013 based on my taste (back then)(not a prediction):

Montenegro (Who See & Nina Zizic - Igranka)
The Netherlands (Anouk - Birds)
Hungary (ByeAlex - Kedvesem)
Croatia (Klapa s Mora - Mizerja)
France (Amandine Bourgeois - L'enfer Et Moi)
Estonia (Birgit Oigemeel - Et Uus Saaks Alguse)
Norway (Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love)
Denmark (Emmelie DeForest - Only Teardrops)
Moldova (Aliona Moon - O Mie)
Italy (Marco Mengoni - L'essenziale)

Must have been a pretty shit year.

The one I watched live in Malmo Arena!!
It can't be shit, since I was in Arena.. :p

On a serious note I dislike the winner so much...
And Estonia from your top 10....others from your list I liked/loved..

My winner is Italy...

2013 is pretty underrated, actually. Like, there are no obvious all-time standouts I guess, but the vast majority of it is loads of fun. Rewatching it is a breeze.

Yeah I'm just looking through the list now and you're correct. Not a good year, certainly a fun one though.

And it was the crucial year for The Netherlands, after 8 years in a row without the final (I think it is record), it finally qualified and did good with Anouk, since then is doing really nice and only once failed to qualify.. :)

Anouk changed everything for us, finally someone took it seriously again. But what she did there sent ripples throughout Eurovision itself as well. It was not the song itself, but the staging of such a song that really made the difference. Salvador winning has everything to do with Anouk.

The core of it is the question you must ask about what the stage *is* to your song. For some songs, the stage just shouldn't be there at all, you only need atmosphere. We found the answer for Anouk by getting her out of there, then a year later for The Common Linnets we just ignored its existence basically. Couple years later Duncan didn't need that stage either and look what we did. I don't think the Dutch pioneered this, but we are very good at 'anti-staging'.

They are friends to the world xheartxheartxheart

Synne sounded great, especially if we assume there were sound issues in the arena/transmission to tv.

Of course Synne was saving money on the staging tonight, so she can afford the lighthouse for the final

2013 is one of the best years of the last decade. Baffling to see people ranking it as the worst year of the decade when it's far from being the worst music wise (2011), production wise (2017) and show wise (2019).

In recent weeks, "Majakad" had found itself slipping down my list of my favorite songs of this NF season not by my love for it necessarily fading but rather just because it was getting upstaged. That live performance of "Majakad" has reminded me just how amazing it is. It's just absolutely flawless (the live vocal is not but the song so, so, so is).

If Synne wins it would be the 2nd biggest FU from Estonia to ESC in history. That would be different from usual serious approach, but I wouldnt mind it. Europe needs us to flip a middle finger from time to time, so that they would appreciate more Estonia`s good quality entries.

2013 being fun makes it a good year. Entertainment is what draws one into Eurovision into the first place, not just the music in itself. 2013 delivers this in spades fortunately :-)

Anyway, us discussing an underrated year that happened seven years ago says enough about the state of Eesti Laul we're in. It's almost better to simply pretend last night never happened in the first place.

Synne serves vocal, fun and variety in a lineup that desperately lack these things. I am glad that you support her future victory 100 % :)

2 things need to happen for that:
a) Jaagup has to suck
b) Jury needs to keep Synne at least 7-8th position in the Final

From these 2 things a) is likely to happen, b) I am not so sure ... Can totally see Synne winning all rounds of televoting.

The thing with Jaagup's song is that it so heavily relies on a choir that it has to be vocally on point not to fall flat. I'm curious to know how they are going to handle that.

Also, I'm not sure I'd be here for interpretative dance staging-wise. But we'll see what happens, hopefully most acts will give better performances compared to last night.
