It is so simple to understand why ... Portugal was just too complicated for an average voter and there was nothing special about Georgia. At the same time weather you like it or not Estonia has a radio friendly pop song that most people who hate the "freak show" that surrounded it just appreciated. Not a rocket science ...

I know ... it was rather a rhetorical question from my side. Of course bland pop songs win over intelligent ones. Thats# how our earth is built. '*frustrated*

I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually in the Jury Top3 tonight. Basically all the English language songs went through that didn't have an awful live performance (this is what happens when we have an SF full of non-English songs) and among them this was the most competently performed.

On second thought, it's not even far-fetched to think that this won the Jury vote tonight.

Biggest mystery of all times: How could he beat Portugal? Or Georgia? Or Poland? Music history is just cruel. Bloody hell.

This is kind of comparing apple to orange. Estonia has country vibes (which I am always for, btw). Portugal, Georgia and Poland all had ethnic influences. It may not mean for everyone. :)

Absolutely impossible to argue with that statement.

Although I think "the mistake" you make here is looking for sanity in ESC. So feeling frustrated about the lack of it makes no sense :)

Unfortunately you are right about that ... :(

Yay!! xcheer Happy to see us in the final! We're probably going to be bottom 10 fodder, but I honestly don't mind at this point. :D Getting a spot in the final was always going to be the best we could probably hope for, considering the lack of standout entries in this EL edition. It'll most likely be another Getter or Birgit result, and I can live with that. If the second half draw somehow helps us place 15-20, I'll be very happy! But I doubt they'll give us any pimp slots. No matter, I'll be hoping for the best but content with whatever happens. :)

Georgia's song was always considered a bottom 3 contender, only random rehearsal hype over some pretty background pictures suddenly made people go gaga. Portugal was just way too weird and off the wall. Maybe if it was the only strange song in the semi it would have worked, but going up against more accessible weirdness like Iceland or Australia, it didn't really shine.

I think you can still compare those ... not genre-wise, but regarding the staging/performance. I mean Victor's voice was really not good enough nor did he convince with the staging. But ESC results are always a surprise ... in a bad and good way that is. ;)

Happy for Victor, must be extra nerve-wrecking to represent a foreign country who has chosen and put their trust on you. xcheer

The question now is - will we get our first 'middle of the road' result since.... 1998? or will we once again be among the bottom 6? Every time we qualify, it's either this or top 10 .

realistically, he's most likely doing Saara Aalto.

A basic qualification for basic European (and Australian) bitches.

This was a total 'WTF' moment for me. He is cute but REALLY? I'd rather Montenegro over this dullness.

Can't believe he came through and is also leading iTunes chart. Go for that televoting top 5! Also wow, second half for the first time ever...

I'm happy this come through in the end, it's a really good simple song and does the job well, and those graphics were timed perfectly. Maybe a little surprised, but also not as I thought he'd have a chance. Good luck in the final!

Still too generic for my taste, like a safer more poppier budget version of some Avicii demo... but still deserved to qualify, on 10th position ...

iTunes is dead though. no one uses it anymore, it's near to be shut down. and Storm is charting in countries that could not even vote tonight.
La Forza did not do anything on iTunes after the semi but in reality got more televotes than Israel. So, Spotify will be more telling.

Rewatched the performance.

His first chorus was horrid. Literally hurts my ears. And the poor guy is destroying his vocal cords with the screaming, just listen to the ending part where his voice is on the verge of cracking. It's not healthy for him, he should have gotten a vocal coach for his own sake.

I would say we were 10th but then again, San Marino also qualified. Either Victor or Serhat owe a thanks to Maruv.
