Kerli would just be the best thing. Ever.
What does she think 'bout eurovision?
Apparently Kerli has said she wouldn't mind going to Eurovision and one year she will submit her song but she didn't say when. We already know she tried her luck as a kid once in Estonia (2004) and once in Sweden (2003).
Horrible outfit. I do not like her but she has success abroad.Kerli singing in Estonian (the guy with weird blonde haircut on guitar produces Iiris' songs, by the way):
And one patriotic song:
Feels bit out of place but I'm positively surprised.
I get your point and I have nothing against newcomers, what I'm personally against is the whole Idol-concept where the only thing that counts is the voice and often nothing more than that.
I'm in this for the songs, not for who can wail most octaves in 3 minutes, and to me this girl reminds me more of the latter and not the type of up-and coming artists that put their own works on pages like Myspace etc.
I'm scared that now with the juries onboard the songs have been put back in favor of voices, and I feel we have plenty of those concept shows already and doesn't need to transform ESC to yet another lame copy.
Until the ESC rules are changed to make cover versions mandatory and introduce a team of bitching, self-promoting judges who sit next to the stage, then I really don't see how Eurovision is at all like Pop Idol/X-Factor.
Over the course of Eurovision history, it's been quite rare for winners to have written their own songs, but it is getting much more common. Between 1970 and 1999 only 4 winners wrote or co-wrote their songs (ABBA, Brotherhood of Man, Johnny Logan and Toto Cotugno). This century, we've already had seven such winners, including Alexander Rybak who did it under the 50:50 jury system. If the juries had had their way this year, there would have been another in the form of Raphael Gualazzi.
I don't think the identity of the songwriter really matters anyway. Lena would be the archetypal example of an Idol-concept Eurovision entrant, but her two songs were both fantastic and it didn't matter to me one jot that she didn't write them. The songs are far more responsible for Lena's success than her voice alone.
Getting back to Estonia, I totally agree that Ithaka Maria had the better entry. However, I liked Rockefeller Street too and was happy to settle for Getter. I disagree with the Estonian jury's opinion, but I feel that if they had based their choice purely on vocal abilities they would have picked Ithaka.
Leto Svet says hello!Wake up in the 21st century and let the people decide!
Fresh winner of Estonian Idol 2011: Liis Lemsalu.
Here are some of her performances:
Adele's "Someone Like You"
Norwegian folk song "Den fyrste sang eg høyra fekk" (Norwegian members, what do you think of her Norwegian?)
Maarja's (ESC 1996, 1997) "Sajab Lund"
No problem! My ultimate goal is to upload all Eurolaul and Eesti Laul entries to my new youtube channel but I'm missing a lot of stuff, at least in high quality. I'll upload the ones that I currently have in random order and then try to get my hands on the missing recordings.Your reviews are really interesting :-)
Thank you!
