Re: ESTONIA 2012

I always say that the difference between an artist and "just a singer" is the creative aspect. Artistry means to create something. Quite often the best artists doesn't necessarily have the technical best singing voices, but they have a creative mind so they usually write/compose themselves or with others.

"just singers" well they may be technical good singers, but they often lack any creativity and imo quite boring and not very entertaining. But that's just my personal opinion.

I'm not against launching yourself through the internet, but I would still prefer people who are more than just wailing voices and actually have something else in the bag.

What I'm fearing though is ESC desperately trying to copy the Idol concept (with the juries onboard) and here we are with all these "voices", while the songs aren't very interesting or anything anymore and the shows lacks people with star-quality and charisma.

That's perfectly comprehensible, however I'm stating that "just a singer" could have potential once all of the details such as creating/finding the right song have been settled. I don't know the talents of this girl, but she may very well write her own songs in addition to singing covers of more well-known ones. But a minor detail such as uploading videos of yourself singing covers of popular music shouldn't be a disqualifying factor because, like I said, everyone starts from somewhere.

In my opinion, well known and popular singers aren't a necessary requirement and newcomers and amateurs can do just as well, if not better. At the end of the day its up to the voting public in Estonia and the jury panel to decide whether she, or anyone else for that matter, have what it takes to represent them at ESC.

I get your point and I have nothing against newcomers, what I'm personally against is the whole Idol-concept where the only thing that counts is the voice and often nothing more than that.

I'm in this for the songs, not for who can wail most octaves in 3 minutes, and to me this girl reminds me more of the latter and not the type of up-and coming artists that put their own works on pages like Myspace etc.

I'm scared that now with the juries onboard the songs have been put back in favor of voices, and I feel we have plenty of those concept shows already and doesn't need to transform ESC to yet another lame copy.

I think the jury points speaks for themselves.
Wait, what? Just because they did not vote like you would have liked it does not mean they are biased against Ithaka Maria. Different taste, different preferences.

Offcourse, and they voted as you wanted and therefor you're satisfied, doesn't mean they were right though, that's up to everyone to have their own idea about because there's no actual right or wrong here, as you point out it's different opinions and I just stated mine.

But you are trying to act like no one else liked her, when in fact she came second in the overall televoting, won the televotes in her semi and even lead some polls prior, so this is clearly not a "one man's opinion".

Anyway you got what you wanted and the result followed, now let's look forward to 2012 and see what will happen.

We all know that for A-Lister the one and onliest winner is Ithaka

No, she obviously didn't win, but yeah she was my favorite, and so what? You're also acting like no one else liked her, when in fact she came second in the televoting part. So laugh all you want because there's another 12.000+ of your fellow Estonians you'd have to laugh at then.

Sorry, but biased choice would have only been Outdamnz, imo. I couldn't understand, even my dear Iiris Vesik as a jury member gave highest point to "I wanna meet Bob Dylan". This would've been total fail. Now, at least i know that Estonian public will select the best one.

Re: ESTONIA 2012

I hope that in 2012 simply the Estonians are to decide which song they want to see in Eurovision. This form of manipulation really pisses me off, then better do an entire internal selection. Hopaparei's gap to Rockefeller street was not out of reach and I think (not know) fans of the other acts would have tended to vote for Hopaparei as well. Fingers crossed ERR has learned.

You must have misunderstood me. You said Ithaka Maria was kicked out because ERR was biased against her. But then how did she pass through Eesti Laul pre-selection and made it to Eesti Laul final?
Because Estonians enjoyed the song.

I doubt any song would have been a bigger fail than Rockefeller street. But people decided against I want to meet Bob Dylan so it's elimination was fine.

I really disliked "Rockafeller Street" but I do agree with the previous comment though... "I want to meet Bob Dylan" would have been a MAJOR fail.

Hindsight is pointless. We will never know what would/could/should have been.

Would or could we can only guess, should though is based purely on personal opinion.

Kerli singing in Estonian (the guy with weird blonde haircut on guitar produces Iiris' songs, by the way):

And one patriotic song:

Feels bit out of place but I'm positively surprised.

Re: ESTONIA 2012

I watched her performances in TV. And I was very very surprised that she sang Eesti muld ja Eesti süda. It's the best patriotic song! (I love it :D )
But I have to tell that...her voice in live...wasn't anything that amazing (if we are talking about Eurovision). There is something missing in her voice.

Re: ESTONIA 2012

If anybody wants more information on that last song:
It is based on a poem by Lydia Koidula from the period of Estonia's national awakening in 1860s, 1867 to be exact. It was made into a song in another awakening period in 1980s by Ruja.

Here's the original:

Performed by Ines, Tanel Padar and others earlier this summer:
