Would have been wiser for Estonia to choose a more leftfield entry like Tenfold Rabbit - 'Oblivion' had far more potential to stand out as something different but also beautiful.

Eurovision said:
Ott Lepland to represent Estonia in Baku

Estonia have selected Ott Lepland as their 2012 representative in Europe's Favourite TV Show, as moments ago he took the Eesti Laul title with the song Kuula.

This year a record breaking of 159 songs were sent in to Estonian broadcaster ERR. From those a total of 20 were picked by a professional jury to go forward to the two semi-finals.

Five songs qualified from each of the two semi finals of Eesti Laul 2012 over the past two weekends, therefore leaving ten finalists who battled it out tonight for two places in a super final.

In the initial round a 50/50 split between televoting and jury votes determined the two superfinalists. The final was held in the Nokia Concert Hall in Tallinn.

The line up for tonight's final was:

Loss Paranoias - Valedetektor
Teele Viira - City Nights
Liis Lemsalu - Made Up My Mind
August Hunt - Tantsulõvi
Lenna - Mina Jään
Pop Maniacs - I Don't Know
Traffic - NASA
Tenfold Rabbit - Oblivion
Birgit Õigemeel & Violina - You're Not Alone
Ott Lepland - Kuula

An interval act was held after the first round of performances, then the juries and televoters had a window of opportunity to vote for their favourites. After those votes were calculated, it was announced that the two superfinalists were:

Lenna
Ott Lepland

In the superfinal, televote decided on the winner, and the Estonian TV public picked Ott Lepland, with 67% of total votes! He will represent his home country in Baku with his powerful ballad Kuula.

Estonia will take part in the second half of the Second Semi-Final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest on Thursday 24th May in Baku.

Having won Europe's Favourite TV Show in 2001 with Everybody from Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL, Estonia have struggled more since the semi final system was introduced in 2004. They have only twice managed to qualify for the Final, in 2009 with Urban Symphony and in 2011 with Getter Jaani.

Mods, you can add this video from Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) official Youtube channel.

Absolutely loving this track. Really happy that it won. It reminds me of something from one of the NF's a few years ago...I think Czech Republic? Petr someone? Anyway its a beautiful song, and I think he sings really well

I was very impressed with the overall standard of Eesti Laul and then they went and picked the least interesting song of the bunch. Kuula is just really really dull. No way that's getting out of the semis.

Lenna or Loss Paranoias would have been much better.

I think looking at the rubbish a lot of the other countries are entering this year, it has a great chance of making it to the final

Estonia is one of my favorite ESC countries, but this song doesn't affect me at all, it doesn't work. OK, maybe it does...I got only bored by listening to it. such a flat song, I can't believe Estonia really chose this:/ I'm glad it's in estonian, though.
I'll give it 4.

 I actually agree with every single word!
Kuula is hopelessly outdated :( Apparently he's a beloved name in Estonia, but it's a mystery to me why so many international fans also had him as their favourite  He was totally invincible with the public...

I guess in the end of it all the best song one, however it MUST be kept in Estonian!. It would went from good to anonymous if they change to English.

Of course it will stay in Estonian, no changes will be made for the Eurovision. Ott has integrity and self-esteem.

Oh I'm so happy to hear that. I love this song more and more each time I listen to it. Estonia, you're currently in my Top 5 (still deciding on the ranking). It just sucks that you are in the difficult Semi....

By the way, lyricist Aapo Ilves also wrote lyrics for 2004's Tii.

In my opinion this lacks power. It's ok, but that's all. When I listen the song, I'm waiting all the time for a stronger part, but then the song is all the same from the beginning till the end.

Somebody lied to you in that case. He said he won't change anything for Baku, what we saw in Eesti Laul final will be in Eurovision, because that's what the people voted for. Plus, I don't really remember when was the last time I heard him singing anything in English. I just hope he gets a better suit.

What I just realised: first clip is from a show called "Seitse vaprat", which was hosted by Mihkel Raud, second clip is from a show called "Kahvel", which was hosted by Kiur Aarma. Both Mihkel and Kiur were in Lenna's band (and Mihkel wrote music for Lenna's song). Estonia is so small.

Maybe...

Well, many artists that usually sings in their native languages, have sung in English in ESC so that's no real comfort. I hope and believe you're right though :)
