The new system of announcing the points is really great and makes things sooooo exiting. But it's also very cruel.

Yes, the moment Bar had to say "sorry" to Germany.

I just thought I'd post this here, it's a breakdown of how the results tonight skewed the average placings of the participating countries.

Didn't they show everyone the first time they did it a few years back? Now when they have someone on camera you know they won't be getting really low points.

The highs and the lows are all part of Eurovision, I do think some take it too seriously though, the results never tell you everything and you often find ridiculous extremes.

I tried to send telepathic messages in my head to John. Don’t get to excited!!! Your song wont get 253 points. But no. He had to look like a child who just got told christmas is cancelled.

There is a lot of jury hate as usual, but I will say that  did in no way deserve the gold medal over :nl:. Overall I’m really happy with the results. I adore :nl: :it: :ch: but I think :ru: getting 3rd was a bit much. I think Sergey would’ve been 4th or 5th competing under another flag. :de: getting zero points was hilarious and well deserved

by the way, do we know how the Belarusian jury votes were calculated? And the San Marino ones are done based on how countries from their pot voted, right?

A few thoughts on the final yesterday:

Overall it was really a good show until the voting. The voting process was far too long (like last year - and even longer) which makes me a bit suspicious. Maybe it was due to the diva who took her time... and I‘m not talking about Dana International or Conchita Wurst.

Madonna did herself no service with her performance. She was far worse than any of the contestants. Maybe that was the reason she was reluctant to come to Tel Aviv in first place. Maybe she had technical problems. Whatever it was, it wasn’t good for her.

I think I don’t like the new way they presented the points. As a contestant you don’t know what your points are worth. For the countries with lesser votes it might be not as crucial. But it doesn’t honour the ones which were doing well. Not really an excitement. Norway was certainly thrilled to hear their points but neither them nor the public really knew they‘d be the actual televote winner. It took them „their moment“.

This year more than ever it was clear we need to get rid of the juries, at least the way they are now. They are clearly more biased than the televoters and instead of preventing bloc voting they did worse in this than the televoters. Also, they seem to be influenced a lot by the betting odds, at least more than the televoters usually are.
Plus, they have clearly a soft spot for some countries while they always „punish“ certain countries. It has to be more balanced. I don’t think they have to be abolished completely but a change is necessary. A former ESC participant doesn’t mean a good juror per se, for example.

All in all the winner is rightful. It didn’t win either jury nor televoting but at least it was balanced. I like the winning song much though it lost a bit it’s magic the last weeks. Performancewise he was NOT a winner for me but I think the right song has won in the end. However, it leaves a sour taste when popular songs in the televote are so low in the jury vote. In the end it is about 200 jurors versus Millions of people in front of their tv. People will stop voting more and more in the future if their votes are meaningless. And in doubt, when there‘s such a huge gap between jury and televote, it should always be the televote‘s favourite that has to have more impact.

Conclusion: after all this fuzz the Netherlands have won rightfully and that it what most people can live with. That’s how it should be!

I too hope for an Italian win soon, they've been bringing quality year after year, and to me were robbed when Il Divo didn't win.

I actually really like the way the televoting was presented. It's more thrilling and exciting. In previous years, you already knew that if a country didn't get their points yet, they will get more points - which made things quite predictable. This year, you could still base it a bit (like always) how much points a country was gonna get based on the performance and song of course, but still: is it going to be 100 points? 5? 20? 250? Nobody knows and that's what makes it exciting.

I feel like that's what builds up the excitement - that you know that you will get more votes and you can hope for a good placing. This way you're just waiting with no expectations.

Some really interesting facts were made by points. The song that was 2nd in televoting and 3rd in Jury won the race. Something like this:

F.R. Country T Points, Tel, Jury
1 The Netherlands 492 (2nd, 3rd)
2 Italy 465 (3rd, 4th)
3 Russia 369 (4th, 9th)
4 Switzerland 360 (5th, 8th)
5 Norway 338 (1st, 15th)
6 Sweden 332 (9th, 1st)
7 Azerbaijan 297 (8th, 5th)
8 North Macedonia 295 (12th, 2nd)
9 Australia 285 (7th, 6th)
10 Iceland 234 (6th, 14th)
11 Czech Rep. 157 (24th, 7th)
12 Denmark 120 (15th, 11th)
13 Slovenia 105 (11th, 17th)
ETC

So you don't need to be the absolute favorite to televoters or juries to win the eurovision hehe. That fact is not only for The Netherlands also for Italy, Russia even Switzerland who was 5th in televote and 8th in jury managed to get final position 4th. To me this is very strange. Where are the winners?
The winner of televoting, Norway is on 5th place in the final scoreboard and the winner of Jury is in the 6th place in the Final scoreboard. The strange happens even when the televotes and jury agree somehow on one country, Australia. Televotes 7th and Jury 6th and at the end Australia ends in 9th place.

this is Eurovision. You only need to dare to dream that one day maybe your country will win. :)

Conrats on The Netherlands. Really love the song and the performance. Deserved victory :)

Another reason to like the old system better: only after the show we know who is the televote winner. Norway was robbed of the spotlight they did deserve.

After all, Duncan deserved it because the difference between jury and televote wasn’t that big. However, big gaps should be avoided. Especially when the public score is high and the jury vote is low. After all it‘s the viewers who spend a lot of money for their favourite.

Well, this was Himan's eurovision in the end. I wanted Netherlands 1(not only because I'm from there I genuinely love the song) and Italy 2, so that das nice and I also really loved the Norwegian, Macedonian and Swedish entry. So this year's edition was the best.
