The problem is - I think I wrote that last year - I‘m sure the juries are influenced by the odds. Most won‘t give their points to an artist that is at 24, 25, 26 in the odds. Because the votes are made public most of them will choose „safe songs“. Otherwise they have to justify their descision. „What? Country x why do your twelvies go to country y? It‘s last in the odds but it‘s your neighbour country!“ „Because I really like the song???“ „Not possible. Smells like cheating!“

Last year the Juries gave Highpoints to :mt: :rs: :cz: :ge: :no: and low Points to :ro: :ee: :hr: etc...so I dont think that Odds have a big impact.

Mariza and Ana Moura will perform in the final, they're two of the best fado singers in Portugal ;)

I thought they would be foreign artists, but I misunderstood :lol: they're portuguese with international careers instead

Latest news from the press release

The venue for Euroclub has changed from the previously announced location and is now in the city centre, right next to Eurovillage. Open only to accredited fans and press, the club will operate throughout the event fortnight in Portugal’s capital.

Final wave of Eurovision Song Contest 2018 tickets will be released at 11:00 CET on 5th April 2018 marking the last chance fans have to secure tickets ahead of May’s competition, including the Grand Final

Opening and interval acts confirmed featuring 2017 winner Salvador Sobral that will be returning to the stage for a performance that will include new material alongside his iconic winning song.

Traditional Portuguese Fado artists Ana Moura and Mariza will, for the first time ever, perform together. Both acts will share the stage during the opening segment of the show for what is set to be a landmark moment in Portuguese music history. They will be followed by the classic Eurovision flag parade which will be soundtracked by world champion scratch artists Beatbombers. Completing the Grand Final line up is DJ Branko who will create an electronic journey of music around the world.

As far as the semi allocation goes - yeah, SF1 is looking a lot more competitive at the moment despite SF2 having the stronger list of countries. May as well make a bit of an early prediction here before the usual qualification thread pops up:

From SF1, I'm already seeing 12 countries that seem to be likely qualifiers, and even about half of the others should at least stand a good chance, I think. But clearly we can't have like 14 qualifiers, so for now I'll try to cut things down and make some guesses:

SF1 1st Half: :be::bg::cz::ee::il:
SF1 2nd Half: :am::at::cy::fi::gr:

Biggest uncertainties here are perhaps Belgium (might not grab the televoters enough), Armenia (depends on revamp/staging), Bulgaria (likely in but we haven't seen the song yet) and Cyprus/Greece (I'm not sure both of those similar songs can get through the same half). They could be replaced by Azerbaijan (similar situation to the two I've just mentioned), Belarus (probably borderline support), Albania (depending on the revamp) and Switzerland.

SF2 feels a little harder to predict, given that we've got less in the way of competitive songs and more just have a lot of countries with successful records, and I've never been quite as good at analysing that sort of thing. Here, I have the opposite issue to SF1, and I'm struggling to get 10 songs that are more likely in than out. Nonetheless, my guesses for qualifiers from each half would be:

SF2 1st Half: :au::dk::nl::ru::no:
SF2 2nd Half: :se::ua::hu::lv::mt:

For this semi, I'm not too confident about predicting Russia (weak singer, and no song yet), Norway (the opposite situation - good, well-liked singer with an average song), Hungary (could go absolutely anywhere), Latvia (probably high with juries but not televoters) and Malta (possibly amateurish; needs good staging). They could be replaced with Moldova, Serbia, Poland or Slovenia without really surprising me.

Wow my prediction is EXACTLY the same except for one country (I have :pl: inestead of :nl:, but I have it in 11th :lol:) Great minds!

i think everyone will have the exact same semi 1 prediction, which will be :ee::bg::be::cz::fi::il::gr::am: and two other entries of choice, and even then i expect most people to add :at: too. my 10th qualifier at the moment is :az: pretty much out of wishful thinking, but i could see :lt: or :hr: too

I love it that unlike last year with all that Francesco hype and „definitely winner“ screams, we don’t have a clear winner right NOW. This will remain until the semis and the reaction of the audience/the performances.

I have got exactly the same list as you and I also put :az: as a 10th. If one of those fails to deliver, I also got :lt: and :hr: to jump in.

From my qualifiers I can imagine :gr: or :fi: failing to qualify

I don't know if it's the right thread but if it's not let's create a new one just for Escnation's poll..
So, Esc nation's poll is open and we have first results..In the 1st semi it's clear that :il: is fan's favourite...On the bottom things are not clear yet....The only prediction is that :il: :be: :fi: :gr: :ee: :cy: and :bg: seem to be one level higher but not safe because it's a stong semi...

That parody brought a tear to my eye... xheatxheat ...Just before I am about to run a mock job group interview as a university tutorial activity. Literally sitting here and waiting to pedagogically die.
