When since did Austria conform to the norm. I am not surprised.

Well, the reason for Innsbruck is obvious - it's the money.

Innsbruck is super rich and the mayor already announced they would contribute at least 10 million euros for the contest, something ORF is pleased to hear.

Vienna, Graz and ORF are in the red, whereas Innsbruck has the money power.

10 million euros for a city of just 120,000 people is quite remarkable.

If Vienna still wins the bid, then it won't the Stadthalle, but some bold temporary arena..

Well Stadthalle is the only venue competing for Vienna. All the others were rejected by ORF.

Calm down Mlyn :'D This is just a tabloid drawing early conclusions. Innsbruck does seem to have good chances but Wiener Stadthalle can surely work something out to move their scheduled concerts - otherwise they wouldn't have applied in the first place (or wouldn't be among the three shortlisted venues now).

For me, Innsbruck sounds like the most interesting choice. The arena is modern and has more capacity than Malmö or Copenhagen. Most of all, I fancy the Alpine panorama and the liberal and young people there.

On the downside, Innsbruck is one of the most expensive places in the world, and I don't know if the airport has the capacity to bring in the delegations and fans. The major airports of Zürich and Munich are 2 to 3 hours from Innsbruck, also Austria's second largest airport in Salzburg.

Graz would be a tribute to the life of Tom Neuwirth, so that would be also a nice choice.

Wiener Stadthalle has two problems - penalty fees for the already contracted bookings, but also bad acoustics. But as of today, the mayor of Vienna, who is very keen on winning the bid, brings in a new option, a completely modernised Marx Halle with some brandnew facilities. Sounds fair enough to me. Still, I'm not rooting for Vienna, because I think most people there won't appreciate Eurovision in their city because Vienna has always been the first address for everything in that country, whereas Innsbruck would be completely enthused of having it.

Too much buzz for Innsbruck... but I dont like a lot the venus. I still believe that it should be held in Vienna but in other place. But if it has to be one of these three/ I would pick Innsbruck as well

Why don't you like Innsbruck? Is it the high mountains? Do they scare you? :D

Olympiaworld looks very modern and don't forget it's bigger than the venues of 2013 and 2014! Innsbruck overall is very modern and there's lots of buzz, young folks and a cool nightlife. I'd be happy if Innsbruck gets the spotlight, Vienna already had plenty of it!

For ORF it looks like the best choice, because the province of Tyrol and the city of Innsbruck seem to be willing to bear ALL the costs, whereas if the contest goes to Vienna, the costs ends up on the public because ORF would most likely raise their fees to pay the Eurovision bills. According to a rough calculation, they assume 25 million of costs and 10 million of revenues. And Vienna has even more trouble, first of all, the saying goes that a cancellation of the Stadthalle bookings would be penalised by a rough 5 million euros! Furthermore EBU requires a cooling system, something Stadthalle doesn't have - so there go another 4 million euro into the renovation. But since Vienna seems very keen on hosting Eurovision next year, they are throwing the Neu-Marx area into the bazar, where there is an old industrial facility but also plenty of space to build a brandnew arena.... Crystal Hall y'all. They would have to spend 120 million euros at least, and that's money they just don't have and time is also running out. I don't think EBU would approve that the most expensive contest would be held in Vienna, after their own efforts to downsize it again after Baku and Moscow.

Are you sure? It looks really small to me.

It has a capacity of 12,000 people, which is less than Stadthalle but more than B&W Hallerne and much more than Hersing or Aalborg, which were both serious bids and also more than Malmö.

It depends of course now on how big the stage and the green room will be. In B&W Hallerne both almost filled the entire floor.

^Yeah, but those 12,000 are probably without the big stage and everything - it might even be below 10k in that case.

Well, the 12,000 are already with a stage. Without stage, there is room for 17,000
