Eurovision in Graz/Salzburg/Innsbruck could be even interesting choice, but if they are able to host contest?

Each of them has at least a modern stadium with more capacity than Stadthalle, so they should be able to roof it and ready.

Alright, so there's an interesting new article about the current bids, and there are still many after ORF's requirements: 7 of 9 Austrian federal states are still in the race, only Salzburg wasn't interested from the get-go and Vorarlberg is now forced out by the requirements.

Top candidate city is Vienna of course, but Graz, Klagenfurt and Innsbruck seem very optimistic about their chances. Linz / Upper Austria seem like they want it, but struggle to find a reasonable venue, they even want to host it now in the remote Mühlviertel at the Czech border.

Lower Austria wants to bring the Danube port of Korneuburg near Vienna into play, but they don't have an elaborate concept.

Oberwart / Burgenland seems like in the race, but would be the least obvious choice... Is there really room for 10,000 spectators? And there no hotels as well....

Klagenfurt has a great venue, but I doubt they will get the bid for political reasons. The mayor party (FPÖ) is homophobic and critized Conchita Wurst heavily.

I still think Vienna will get it. But it would be nice to think a less obvious place would get it over the capital. Like Malmo did over Stockholm.

It must be Vienna... they don't host anniversary every time so I think they will pick the capital

Now I have some figures for you about the known and speculated possible venues:

Vienna: Wiener Stadthalle - 16,000 spectators max., Messe Wien - 15,000
Graz: Davis Cup Center in Unterpremstätten - 38,000 max. (huge!), Stadthalle Graz - 11,000
Oberwart: Burgenlandhalle - 10,000 max.
Wels: Messe Wels - 11,000 max.
Linz: Linzer Hafen - could be big, venue not ready yet
Innsbruck: Olympia World - 14,000

If we allow enough space for a big stage and green room, the air gets thin for some of them since ORF requries room for an audience of at least 10,000; Graz could be a shock winner, but on the other hand, it's the capital city of Tom's home state Styria, and the city where he studied fashion and planned his life...

Graz would also be a friendly choice for the southernly neighbours and Balkan countries.

Unterpremstätten is located at a small lake directly at Graz International Airport.

What I'd miss about Graz, is the typical Austrian Alpine feeling (no mountains) or classical sound of music feeling (like Salzburg, Vienna). It's strange, but beautiful, mostly sunny and warm, very friendly.... has a flair of Southern Europe already.... Graz can't really sell clichés.....

I don't think Klagenfurt with their big stadium can pull it off due to political reasons and recent scandals.

Have ORF announced when they will decide which city that will host?

No, tomorrow is the last day for venues to submit their bid to ORF. Then it will still take a while until a decision is made I guess.

So ORF just announced that there are 12 venues in the race (although technically venues can still apply until midnight) - including several temporary solutions in Vienna. Messe Wien isn't mentioned anymore.

1. Vienna - Wiener Stadthalle

2. Vienna - Schloss Schönbrunn (Temporary arena)

Olympiaworld in Innsbruck looks like a typical ESC-arena to me, and it can take 12,000 people

Thanks for the photos, anselm! Still hoping for the Wiener Stadthalle - it looks great! #5 (St. Marx) looks pretty good too from the photo, though I'm not sure how easily it'd translate into a full arena.

I'd rather not see the contest go to Innsbruck or Oberwart... both of them look a little cramped, probably because of the low roof on each. I tend to prefer the more spacious host venues - this year, 2011 and 2012 have all had great arenas, in my opinion.

Don't worry, Oberwart won't happen  It's cute that they applied though.
