And you only see the the bad parts. We call it "racism".
O'RLY? so just because someone don't approve of something, or trying to lift out something they think is bad, it automatically makes them believe they are superior as human beings to those they don't approve of?
oh? no wonder the word "racist" is used so often and easily now days.

There are other cool words to throw around when one isn't allowed to have an opinion without being judged as something shamefull, but i'm not going to go there.

And you only see the the bad parts. We call it "racism".

That shows that you don't really know what racism means. Educate yourself:

RACISM
Pronunciation: /ˈreɪsɪz(ə)m/

[h=3]noun[/h] [mass noun]
  • the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races: theories of racism

  • prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior: a programme to combat racism

Criticising the Azerbaijan government is not the same thing as discriminating against Azeris, or thinking that they are inferior. Quite the opposite actually, the criticism suggested that Azeris deserve the same human rights as every other European.

On the other hand, I thought the criticism was quite loud this year, much more so than any criticism I read of Ukraine in 2005, Belgrade in 2008 or Russia in 2009, all of whom have dirty little human rights secrets.

I don't hate Azerbaijan!!! On the contrary, I really want to and going to visit Azerbaijan. Originally due to my interest in history, but now it's even stronger after ESC. Through Eurovision we hear about the nice and polite Azeri people and we get impressed by the beautiful pictures.

Thank you for being objective. I understand when users on this forum speak about politics of my country. It's their right...But I can't accept when they try to abuse our people who always were hospitable and respectful....

I think there will be more than 1 Loreen-copies next year!

I also think that a country will send 6 grandpas!

I'm hoping it will be six Gay Great Uncles. At last, my chance has come!

That's a racist statement right there. It can only come from a person with a racist mindset.

There's a difference between not approving things and trying to find the bad sides all the time.

As you can see from the comments, people here not only criticising the government. Since Azerbaijan won last year, I've been seeing those comments everwhere. There's so much obsession here. That's why I called it "racism".

I think "Absence of major human rights" is pretty much where we draw the line of "This is a good country" and "This country sucks". It doesn't matter if the country is rick as heck and most people's lives are great. An absence of most major human rights is unacceptable.

I see your point but what I don't like is people always talking about how bad the human rights in Azerbaijan. They act like it's a 3rd world country. Every country has flaws but Europeans in this forum think all the European countries are flawless, while nothing good happens in Azerbaijan. That bothers me for 2 reasons; 1- Each country is responsible for its own situation, it's not our business. 2- This is a Eurovision forum damnit!

And Mr. Lordi will be back to give points to the cutest, hottest babes, six of them, in the contest.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure that Azerbaijan is a 3rd world country, technically speaking. The same way Vietnam is one, but not the same way, say, Somalia is one.

Such a look down. How does it come to be a 3rd world country? Explain it. While all political and economical foundations show Azerbaijan as a developing country, how do you conclude it as undeveloped 3rd world country?

I cannot understand this "looking down" behaviour of some Europeans. Besides, again some of them behave as if they are responsible to be the liberator of some other countries. God, please relax. You're commenting for the countries you have not ever seen yet. People there have a mind and can think about who to select in elections. Only liberal and democratic countries are not merely west and north Europe countries. Please relax and take care of your own country, and enjoy ESC. You're not the rescuers of the ESC countries.
