It's not about what's better. It's about what songs (and countries!) get the votes. That's not necessarily the same.

The ex-USSR all get extra votes from their neighbors and the diaspora.

What about Turkey, Armenia, Malta in 2011?!
They didn't qualify and.. eeerrrr.
:cz: could qualify for the first time though.

Of course extra votes don't mean that they can qualify and get good results automatically every time but it makes it much easier for them.
:cz: can certainly qualify this year and I hope they will but they start with 0 points while other countries start with 24 points and more regardless of the song.

Your tastes are yours, but I wouldn't say that :is: is safe too early...

It has nothing to do with tastes. It's all about analysing the stats and coming to the conclusion that Iceland has enough wide appeal to easily qualify. It's a 100% qualifier.

Greece has much bigger chances of qualifying just because it's Greece. The song is awful but because it's Greece it will qualify regardless of the song.

Just as reminder, Greece has never failed to qualify to the final. Iceland has good record as well, but it's still worse than Greece.

I am fully aware of the qualification records. If you seriously think that Greece will qualify regardless of what they send, then that is a very naive stance to take. Every country is at risk at some point. Azerbaijan have come close with songs much better than this. Turkey, Armenia and Sweden have failed to qualify with much better than this. And considering it's in the first semi as well, I can't see Greece even coming close to making it.

Estonia is going to be the dark horse of the competition.

Rubbish. (I'm not rough with you but the fact that some countries compete with 24 points which are surely scored.)
:cz: did very well for their return in the televote last year and with the jury too (they finished 12th) and they succeeded to reach a 13th place.
Moreover, :se: in 2011 failed to qualify with Denmark and some baltic states/neighboors in its semi final.

Erm... are you sure of that?
Everyone told us and told us that :is: would qualify in 2015, and what happened then?
They failed.

:is: 2015 and :is: 2016 are not comparable at all. If you look back at last years entry, Iceland's qualification was in doubt as soon as the first rehearsal was shown

You can easily compare those both entries from :is: and find some similarities instead of :is: 2014 which was really dreadful and shouldn't have never sail through the final...

Don't forget that Iceland is in the 2nd half this year and I think it's fairly likely they'll be last in the running order so I really can't imagine it not qualifying.

I must say this: I LOVE THIS. It's the best ballad of the year in my opinion and Czech Republic's best entry yet. The chorus is so special but quite ordinary (in a good way), quite old fashioned but with modern twists and her voice fits PERFECTLY to the song. This is MILES better than Australia and I hope Europe will see that because they are the same type of song. So PLEASE Czech Republic, don't waste this opportunity on bad staging like last year and help this qualify for the final, because it deserves top 10 in the final!xheart

They also couldn't...
Just remember that :rs: performed last in 2013, and it doesn't prevent Moje 3 from not qualifying...

What are you talking about? Loads of people saw Iceland 2015 as a non-qualifier. I predicted as much several times in the build-up to the contest. You cannot compare the 2 entries in terms of quality at all.

Moje 3 had awful staging though. Iceland's staging is really cool and even if the song isn't amazing, I feel like a lot of people would vote just for the staging.

The fact is that the Czech Republic (like Austria) needs to earn every single point while other countries automatically get some points from their neighbors and the diaspora vote every year. These extra points make it easier for the ex-USSR and ex-Yugoslavia to qualify. They won't qualify if their songs are unpopular but if both Croatia and the Czech Republic have popular songs, for example, Croatia is more likely to qualify because of its neighbors that will rather give their 12 points to Croatia than to the Czech Republic. This can mean the difference between qualifying and reaching 13th place.

If the Czech song were the Russian entry, it would be a 100% qualifier because of the neighbor vote. Since it's the Czech entry it can qualify but it might also fail.

That's nonsense...
:at: managed to win in 2014 despite having not any neighboors though.
Even in 2011...

It's nice. I'd love to see them in the final, but I don't know if it can happen - it's stuck in the first semi which is definitely the harder of the two.
