the ŠČ! sound thing reminded me of the random sounds like shhhjjjjuppp in a song like Tanz mit Laibach, the choral things in the background, the militaristic look, the attitude to shock... just small parts that remind me of Laibach but then in a colorful and punk way. ;)
"Tanz mit Laibach" is such a jam.
I could just slam my boots all day long to that song.

Ok, let's do some real business - Let's teach our English speaking fans how to sing Mama ŠČ.

They use words which are quite international and easy to learn or sing. I'll try writing it down as a set of English words you know how to pronounce.

Let's try first with the ŠČ! issue 🤣

It's SH-CH.

Try to say Nikita Hrushchecv. As the former president of USSR.

HruSHCHev. ŠČ! 🤣

Now let's proceed with verse one.

Here we will use basic English words like:

- a military COUP
- an ILL intent
- tractor, or TRACT as an anatomical structure
- serving TRAY
- NAH as a sigh of indifference or disapproval
- AH sigh
- ARMAGEDDON
- and negations, contemporary NO, or old-English NAY

1. Mama kupila traktora - Mama bought a tractor

Try saying:

MAMA COUP-ILL-AH TRACT-OR-AH

2. Traj-na-ni-na Armagedon Nona: La-la-la Armageddon Granny

Try saying:

TRAY-NAY-NI-NAH ARMAGEDDON NO-NAH [OR NO-NAY]

So, chorus 1 would go like this:

MAMA COUP-ILL-AH TRACT-OR-AH
Sh-ch!
MAMA COUP-ILL-AH TRACT-OR-AH
Sh-ch!
MAMA COUP-ILL-AH TRACT-OR-AH
TRAY-NAY-NI-NAH
ARMAGEDDON NO-NAH
Sh-ch!

OK, now chorus 2.

This one is difficult, as you don't have a letter LJ or Lj in your alphabet.

So we'll simplify that. We'll use words such as

- Mother's LULLABY / alternatively words such as a LOO as a toillette and BILL of rights
- a MORON 🤣
- and a sigh AH

1. Mama ljubila morona: Mama loved a moron

Try saying:

MAMA LULLABY MORON-AH

or, alternatively

MAMA LOO-BILL-AH MORON-AH

So, chorus 2 goes like this:

MAMA LOO-BILL-AH MORON-AH
Sh-Ch!
MAMA LOO-BILL-AH MORON-AH
Sh-Ch!
MAMA LOO-BILL-AH MORON-AH
TRAY-NAH-NI-NAY ARMAGEDDON NO-NAH
Sh-Ch!

Now we're going to the operetic break noone can really sing, up untill its peak when he sings

1. Mama mama mama ja se idem igrat': Mama mama mama I'm going to play
2. Mama, idem u rat: Mama, I'm going to war

Here we will use words such as:

- a Latin word IDEM which we use in references while writing an essay to mark "the same author"
- a sigh YAY, without really saying the last Y
- per se, as by or of itself, but we'll say only SE
- chicken's EGG, but as we have made a typo mixing it up with an EEL, and instead we wrote EEG
- an exclamation OOH
- a little RAT (yup, rat in Croatian means war), but we'll pronounce it more similarly to WRATH, without really pronouncing W

So, we will sing in that opera break:

MA-MA MA-MA MA-MA
YAY SE IDEM EEG-RATH
MAMA!
IDEM OOH RÂTH
(really long high note on that A)

More to follow, gotta walk my boyfriend's dog now 🤣🤣

I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet. xheat
Let 3 was featured in Moja Štikla videoclip xmusic

Yes they sing actually those male voices on the recorded version you hear here!!

HRT didn't allow them to go to ESC to perform with Severina because they were afraid they would make an incident there.

And look how that ended up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The dog sniffed all buts and now we wrap this up by a refrain.

1. Onaj mali psihopat: That short psychopath

Here we will use:
- basic letter O, but a French version with circonflexe - Ô
- old-English NAY
- African country MALI
- and a standard PSYCHOPATH

We will say:

Ô-NAY MALI PSYCHOPATH

2. Mali podli psihopat: Short vile/vicious psychopath

Here we will use only words such as:
- we removed a bean from the POD
- General LEE

So we'll sing:

MALI POD-LEE PSYCHOPATH

3. Krokodilski psihopat: Crocodile psychopath

Here we will imagine a little CROCO that loves to eat a lot of DILL in his soup and loves to SKI 🤣

So we'll sing:

CROCO-DILL-SKI PSYCHOPATH

So, the refrain as a whole goes like this:

Ô-NAY MALI PSYCHOPATH
MALI POD-LEE PSYCHOPATH
CROCO-DILL-SKI PSYCHOPATH
MAMA, IDEM OOH RATH

There, I know I did all of this in vain here 🤣 but there are people, like this Greek young man, who really knew how to sing it. What an effort! Our languages are quite different

I really appreciate everyone who went to the trouble of dissecting the various meanings of the song/performance, both lyrically and imagery wise.

I still laugh every time I watch it 😅. I don't think people will have any problems getting the main picture. My 1st impression was: this is a sort of Monty Python mock on notorious dictators. So it's an obvious anti-war song, I don't think it's even possible to guess otherwise.

I still don't know if I like it or not, but it amuses me. And since we are only allowed to give 0s or 12s in this poll, take my :12: 😅

That young guy Alex is someone I often watch when wanting to see ESC reactions. I really like him cause he is full of passion (he also loves rock entries) and loves balkan songs. ❤️

I've literally been singing mama kupila traktora all day at work and randomly going ŠČ

I don't think anyone heard me....

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

In Croatia ŠČ has become an urban legend. Today at the supermarket the cashier told me ŠČ! instead of Goodbye. 🤣

Tonight MAMA ŠČ will be a topic of discussion on a political show Otvoreno, aired by HRT.

One of the topics is the petition signed by some right-wingers and sent to EBU, asking EBU to disqualify them for "inappropriatness" and "vulgarity".

Can you imagine, the homophobes are concerned about reputation of a contest they've been labelling a homosexual propaganda for a decade now. 🤣

Some info from the discussion at HRT, director of Dora is present:

1. EBU had zero complaints re: song and video.

2. BBC asked today for translation of lyrics and permission to use the song and video for promotion.

Disqualification police or amorph mass with zero understanding of the moment we live in - DENIED 🤣

3. Music critique explained that MAMA ŠČ has been written for Paolo Magelli's opera which deals with the topics of war, totalitarianism and destruction.

Quote of the day from the discussion:

"Only psychopaths can hold grudge against people singing about psychopaths starting wars". 🤣
