Now I'm afraid that Croatia won't qualify.Nina said for wiwibloggs that she is not happy with her staging and I agree with her.
Like Samra says, it's gonna take a miracle (for Croatia to qualify).

Eldrine got a top 10 placement in ESC 2011 and won the Barbara Dex award (deservingly so). I don't see why this is such a big deal. The only reason Nina won't qualify is if the nerves get to her and she messes up vocally. Or if the general voting audience just doesn't get into the song as much. It's not exactly a favorite on the first listen.

Also using the sad lonely internet troll as an argument against negative replies and then proceeding to deride another person's humor by using sarcasm in form of years dead meme... c'mon you can't actually lack that much self-awareness.

I personally don't think that the dress is as bad as people are making it to be, but I feel a lot contempt for HRT constantly trying to "wow" the audience when they have no idea what works and the people they hire suck at their job. It just feels like Croatians can't ever get anything right because everyone who possessed actual skill left the country. Maybe I'm just letting my general frustration about the country get to me and am making this into a much bigger deal than it is. But DAMN if it doesn't feel tiring when year in and year out they claim they "got this" and "know what Europe likes" and then just proceed to stomp out all potential.

Well I think Eldrine's costume was just funny bad whereas Nina's is just sad. The type that makes you cringe in horror and bang your head against the wall in despair

There is a HUGE difference between humor and mocking someone's appearance.

The big problem here isn't necessarily the dress .. At this point the really really reeeeeeaally big problem is that Nina is not satisfied and does not feel comfortable at all. This is something other people (e.g. the juries and the televoters) will notice in her body language, her facial expression and gesticulation. The fact that she also feels kinda ill makes everything even worse. She won't be able to convey the message of hope when she herself has lost all of it.
Before I've seen this interview I was like "Yeah ok it's not optimal but she's gonna make it anyway as long as she believes in herself" ... but now ..?
They should really overthrow the whole concept (e.g. the dresses and the performance) ... it's never to late for some changes

Eldrine's costumes suited the song. It was an aggressive rock song performed in an agressiverock dress. Yeah, taking the song out of the context, it looked laughable. However, it looked good on stage.

On the other hand, here you have a woman singing a delicate ballad that's supposed to make you feel good and in the same time she is looking like a clown.

Not the same.

Most times people don,t care much about the dress (so long is not horrible)

Sadly i,m afraid her dress could get many comment and negativ feedback from people and many will probably forget to listen in her song who are great. I think vocally and song she should qualifly, but i,m not sure people will listen to it or just take about her bad dress or if Jury will discuss her dress.

If Nina did a great performing on tuesday. 50-50 to qualifly i,m afraid.

I'm really sorry for Nina's situation and especially bothered with THE FACT she is not happy. I'm not the happiest with dress solution but that doesn't change my support to Nina which she always has, no matter what. Despite all comments and everything, if Nina is not happy and doesn't believe in herself than that's the WORST thing it could happen.
As for her "alibi" regarding limitations CRO delegation has! Yes, limitations exist! But if we speak honestly: if you ordered and prepared few options for led screens and see which one is best (and maybe even tells story like Yohanna's one), if you have effective clothes, if you have dress (I'm pretty sure you can get discount, our designers just look for promotion) that is quite normal but effective and if you have song like Lighthouse, then you are more or less "sure qualifier". But when you expriment with leds (first Hvar island, then this quite simple ones) and also clothes and those are only things you should CARE about - what to say! I BET your leds and your clothes could be DIFFERENT and more EFFECTIVE for STAGING for SAME or even LESS price! Did Czech Republic spent millions on staging? You do not have any special effects, you do not have fireworks, what are you talking about?

I knew Matija Vuica would be best designer because she is less extravagant than Zigman but yet very original. You don't need tone of effects to have nice dress. Look Andrea Šušnjara in 2009 - simple dress that it couldn't be simplier but so effective! Look at Danijela Martinović in 1998 - so simple but effective! Sometimes really more is less and less is more!

As for Nina's dress - it is really nice actually but without those "things" on the hands! They are too distractive!!! While dress itself would be maybe just a bit over extraordinary but still ok and positive.

Nina is speaking about how she likes do things personally and then she wears that weird kimono thing. But what are you expecting? I suggest to look succesfull eurovision star interview - Chiara (wiwibloggs). Woman has like red hair (with some style similar to Poli) and says "this is me, but you know, they need to "down" you for eurovision". I find link later.

It is not this is first year of eurovision! Come on, this is 61st edition! If you couldn't learn from mistakes of others then really do not know what to think. It is well known fact it is everything about staging at esc.

You need to prepare yourself for more options! I don't want to be rude or something, but if you think a bit, don't you think those "installations" on the hands can't get negative reactions and be distractive to the song??
Why you didn't try option with those installations and option without those installations and see which one better funcionate with camera? Ira tried new dress, Samra tested two outfits, Donny bring 3 jackets! People are searching for best solution and REALLY think on EVERY DETAIL! You can't be sure about everything UNTIL you TRY IT or TEST IT!

Somehow, I hope she stays in dress but without those installation on hands! Please Nina, please!!!
Anyway, we have what he have - let's try to make best from it! I wish that Nina is healthy and somehow recover believings in herself and try to save this situation with at least qualifying! It will be difficult, if not corrupted, I hope juries will recognize her unique voice and talent and boost it a bit!

Nina please believe in yourself!! You have our support! And please, if not too late, just do not use those installations! Dress itself is great! I love how it looks on this picture!

Good luck! xcheer

I can't agree with this. It was a terrible dress that didn't have anything to do with rock. It just looked ridiculous.

If I misunderstood and there were people laughing at the way Nina looks physically and that's what you were referring to, then I'm sorry. But if you by "someone's appearance" you mean clothes then I stand by my original post. Even Nina is unhappy with the whole thing.

This!
The same example like Eldrine is Rona who got the 5th place for Albania in 2012 and also received the Barbara Dex Award.

They could just as well have put a Ferrari on the stage. Beautiful looking car, but horribly misplaced in this act. Nothing but a big, fat distraction from the song, and on top of it the dress hampers Nina to move naturally, which also works against this emotional song.

All they need is to get rid of the dress and much of their chances would be restored. If they really have no better alternative at hand something as primitive as white blouse/blue Jeans would be an emergency solution and still do a better job. Anything, as long as it does not distract from the song and Nina's voice as the two actual trump cards in her act.

But we also have Moran Mazor, the woman from Netherlands last year, Bulgaria 2008, Iceland and Portugal from 2006, Turkey 2005...

I didn't read everything written above me so forgive me if it's said already, but next to the dresses being too avant-garde (the kimono thing) or too inappropriate for the song (the diva-like silver dress which fits Silvia Night), it's also the combination of the two. At first, viewers will be distracted and, sadly but totally understandable, laughing about it, and then the kimono will be removed and will reveal an even worse dress which totally doesn't fit the song, which will make people get even more distracted.

Nina really seems like a nice person, really, and if she's feeling bad about all the comments it's so sad for her and she doesn't deserve this as a person, but even I think that the dresses are laughable, and that's totally independent of who Nina is as a person and the song.

Pretty much, yeah. Also, let's not forget that she is probably in the hardest semi-final in the last 6 years now.

People in this thread need Jesus. :'D
She will slay, the dress is amazing, camera angles are great... it really doesn't matter if she qualifies or not but there will be a massive audience in Croatia watching her, and that's important. The delegation managed to create a story and people are actually talking about it. We're taking it step by step. ^^
