Re: Proof that Azerbaijan cheats in Eurovision voting

Promotion of Scandinavians? Finland 2007 Oslo 2009 Malmö 2013 next Denmark 2014...
Of course, no one thinks that Denmark could bought EBU and votes... this is not Azerbaijan which easily to pull without any argument because Azerbaijan has not good image in the world
it seems i am only in the world who likes all countries and nations, including Azerbaijan and its friendly and talented people

Believe me, we and the Danish are friends, but just to a certain degree. :D We would never dare to trust them with an advanced cheating deal.

You misunderstand the main argument. It's not about the people in the countries but their governments. Denmark obviously has a less corrupt government than Azerbaijan. Just look at the Human Rights Index and everything should be clear why people mistrust the Azeri government more than the Danish government.

Venage, I agree about it but...

you can't say that Azerbaijan bought results because you didn't liked song. I think that Albania 2012 was the worst song ever and anywhere said that Albania bought EBU. I just said about The Netherlands for comparing, of course i don't think so. I knew that many people loved Azerbaijan this year and if the were here, they also would argue with you that :az:e deserved 2nd place and didn't bought anything

Re: Proof that Azerbaijan cheats in Eurovision voting

I'm very worried about :bg: giving :az: 12 points both in 2010 & 2013, and 10 points in 2012. Weirdest thing is we didn't give any points to them in 2011, but I still can't believe their songs would be so popular here.

And yet they only got 3 points from San Marino (and what's up with San Marino giving Italy a mere 3 points?!). Maybe there's just a lot of people in Malta who keeps voting for Azerbaijan each year (diaspora voting? Who knows). And maybe this year, for once, they sent a pretty good entry ("Meh" song, brilliant staging).

2013 is not a good year to accuse Azerbaijan of cheating. "Drip Drop" getting Top 5 was ridiculous. "Hold Me" getting 2nd is quite understandable.

Re: Proof that Azerbaijan cheats in Eurovision voting

It is very possible to happen things like that, but I'm sure Azerbaijan is not the only one. Plus Azerbaijan really deserve their places, excepting the victory with that song. This year I liked Norway, Azerbaijan, Denmark and Iceland. Any of these could have been the winner for me. So, Azerbaijan really deserve 2nd place. The power of televoting is zero today. The jury can eliminate the winner of the televote from their country. For example, Spain was able to gives to Romania zero points and Italy only one point even if Romania won for sure their televote. So, Azerbaijan loose thier money for nothing. If they will not have a good song they can loose... this if there are not some understanding and a little mafia created between some delegation. For example, I give you 12 this year because you are good, but next year I will be good too and I need your 12.

Don't get me wrong but I think you are not objective here as you like the song.
For me it's an ok song but this has nothing do to with the fact that Azerbaijan always gets a Top 5 spot with songs that would never even reach the top 10 when they would compete for other countries, and thats very strange.
Do you really think "Hold me" would have finished 2nd when it would have been sung by Bonnie Tyler for example ?

I don't have a clear opinion here but I do think Farid made a great performance, Bonnie did not. Hold me would not have finished at no 2 if Bonnie sang it. But thats mostly because of her, not her nationality....
But if Farid would have competed for UK I'm pretty sure he would still be top 5.

No, because Bonnie Tyler's voice is not suited for that song. Also, if she kept his staging? A good-ish finish, at all. You're underestimating good staging. This year, the entries that failed to qualify for the final generally had no/bad staging and the entries that did well in he final generally had good staging (and also good to at least mediocre songs).

Malta giving Azerbaijan 12 points this year doesn't prove jack squat because Azerbaijan sent a very interesting entry into the contest this year. Get back to me if Azerbaijan sends pure crap next year and they still get 12 points from Malta.

Re: Proof that Azerbaijan cheats in Eurovision voting

... I guess this is the wrong year to proof any cheating from Azerbaijan. Farid, the performance and the song we're among the best. I think most of us can agree on this. For me this is the best Az entry ever.

Azerbaijan had a good song, sung by a good singer, the stage performance was impeccable and original, also Azerbaijan has a lot of diaspora... They put a lot of money (for promotions, songwriters, stages etc. and not bribing) and thought into each of their songs so, for me, their good placings are almost always well deserved...

I figured that much. Everywhere i've gone on the internet this year i've been greeted with Farid's smiling face.. just like previous years where there were adverts everywhere for their entries.

Re: Proof that Azerbaijan cheats in Eurovision voting

Another weird thing I have noticed is the views for their videos on youtube. Take the ESCUNITED South African good luck videos for instance. Most are under 500 views yet the Azerbaijan video rather mysteriously has 72,000 views.

I've nothing against Azerbaijani people but theres something that doesn't sit right with me on how the country participates in Eurovision. That panorama investigates programme (or whatever it was) last year was shocking when they went to Azerbaijan and secretly filmed what was going on in the run up to Eurovision.. and when they spoke to people who told shocking stories of what had happened to them.

1. This not Azerbaijan and ppl on the video not Azerbaijanies.

Even though I don't like that at all - the "selling our entry campaign" - every country has as much right doing this I guess. Azerbaijan choose to really go for it. The only way to deal with this is to keep all the entries secret until its time for the competition.

I really love that idea. This way it wouldn't get so boring because the bookies wouldn't be able to predict the winner months beforehand :)

Yeah, it would really be an interesting experiment.

I was just saying it's strange how a south african woman wishing Farid good luck can get 72,000 views when the rest of the ESCUNITED good luck video are less than 1000, most even struggling to get past a couple of hundred views.

Major record labels were exposed recently by youtube for using bots to get views.

2nd place is a well-deserved spot for Farid. He sang it beautifully and the show was spectacular. No cheating there ;)
