LOL, I actually went to that concert. Quite meh, the audience was full of gypsies... By the way, it was the director of our national final in 2012 that directed this, too. ;) And yeah, recently Andrea became my favourite out of the Payner singers but she's a bit clueless on stage, I'm afraid.

Oh you were there?

Andrea is a hit-or-miss, I've seen shows with her that's been pretty well choreographed and energetic, and then I've seen stuff that seemed a bit more rushed (like this one).

I guess if Bulgaria would ever give the chance to a chalga singer, Desislava or Gloria would be the safest picks. Gloria in particular have a strong live voice, so she could even persuade the vocal obsessed juries in ESC if lucky. Desislava also has a good live vocal, and in terms of looks and song materials she's one of the best.

Gloria definitely seems to be the best singer, but she hasn't really done a lot in the last few years. I'm afraid she has lost her touch for hits.

Well. Gloria is not one of my favs either, but she could pull off a Balkan ballad like no other of the rest. Considering ESC is very vocals-focused now, atleast there would be no worry that she'd be able to pull it off.

What does it say?

That article still seems pretty positive though. It's leaning towards a 'no' for 2014 but I don't think they've given up yet

Here is translation

This morning , in "The Day Begins at Sunday " hosted by Georgi Lyubenov was held discussion about the Bulgaria's non-participation in "Eurovision" 2014 . The workshop brought Yoana Levieva - Sawyer (Head delegation in 2012 and 2013, BNT), Stanislav Terziev (Prodction director of all national finals produced by BNT), DJ Dian (part of Deep Zone) and Dani Milev (famous Bulgarian composer ) .

At the beginning of the conversation the head of the Bulgarian delegation in the last two years Yoana Levieva - Sawyer said the BNT has taken the decision to opt out under the pressure of circumstances . On the one hand surprisingly cut public subsidy that television will receive next year, on the other was the approaching deadline for declaring interest (22 November). Sawyer added , however, that there is an extension of the deadline for submission of application forms. According to the head of the Bulgarian delegation in the competition BNT was forced to cut back drastically and its other productions and the decision "Eurovision" to be one of them has been very difficult and in the last minute. On the other hand, she pointed that other countries withdrawals for financial reasons and at this stage Bulgaria's decision is to follow them . Levieva, however, categorically stated that the present decision concerns only the country's participation at "Eurovision" 2014 and was taken in the name of BNT eventually managing to organize in 2015 a contest as it should according to the standards of the media. The idea of external producers in the organization, the head of the delegation said that it depends primarily on other Bulgarian television and if they have a desire for such cooperation, there can be talks on this topic.

The production director of "The Bulgarian song at Eurovision" since 2005 to now Stanislav Terziev did advocate the position that there is still time to seek a new option for Bulgarian participation in the race, which does not include spending from an already tight budget of the television.
As possible solutions he pointed sponsorship by major telecommunications companies or interaction with external producers to accept all or a major part of the cost. According to him, part of the decisions was to bring together artists who want to be a Bulgarian representative without major shows and lavish scenery, as in the past. Terziev added that Bulgaria should not be discharged lightly opportunities to participate in such a large-scale production and is presented not only to a European audience, but also in Australia and China.

At the same time the position of musicians in the studio was in support of the Bulgarian participation in the competition. Composer Dani Milev used the air of BNT to express disappointment at the decision, and also urged to seek alternative ways to ensure participation in " Eurovision " . According to him, the competition is the biggest opportunity for Bulgarian artists since attended many world producers in the music industry who keep a close eye what is happening on the stage of the biggest music scene in the world. DJ Dian by Deep Zone, already represented the country at the " Eurovision 2008" in Belgrade also gave their support in the search for new ways to provide Bulgarian participation. He said that regardless of the outcome " Eurovision " gives good prospects for the development of performers , citing the song "Dj, take me away", which to this day continues to be a business card of the group in Bulgaria and Europe.

So the main points from the discussion were the following:
- Joana Levieva Sawyer (HoD) said that they are feeling very sad about the withdrawal and the television will welcome a help for Eurovision. She definately was careful with promising things for 2014 maybe because of the time is slowly running out. The HoD definately was unsure whether they succeed to do something about 2014 and explained the situation and the reasons why was taken such decision.
- The production director of BNT Stanislav Terziev however was way more enthuastic and he stated that they have to use the remainig time and to find another solution. As possible solutions he talked aboud sponshirp deal with one of the three big telecommunications companies in Bulgaria. He said that there is possibility external producer to take the Bulgarian participation. Terziev clearly wasn't in a mood that the game for Bulgaria is over.
- The musicians in the studio were clearly not satisfied with the current decision and even offered help to BNT with writing songs without money and so on.
The withdrawal decision however still is not changed, but definately is not final decision as Sawyer stated that if there is help they will be very happy and people in the television (like Stanislav Terziev) are seeking for solutions.

It was very interesting and long discussion.

Today happened something that i just can't believe. MP's from Bulgarian parliament during the debates for the Budget 2014 called for more money to BNT in order to secure the participation in Eurovision 2014. One lady from parliament said that the withdrawal is outrage and the decision should be taken back. She said that the country need better international image and participation in Eurovision is very important for that.

And it will become even more interesting I think. There is clear dissatisfaction from the Bulgarian musicians, there is even dissatisfaction and internal fight in favour of Eurovision within the broadcaster (and this was made clear in the discussion this Sunday where Terziev said that the Advertising department should do something instead just staying in their offices). Maybe they will find solution at the end.

To those who wondered why BNT have unexpected budget cuts, read this article through Google Translator.

Google

There is very big discussion about that right now, because BNT is one the of the few media in Bulgaria, which put the government under heavy crtitics. By reading the article, you'll find out the whole background behind our withdrawal and you'll see that the statement by our broadcaster is not just an excuse.

By BNT commented to the "Capital" that the reduced budget for next year will have a direct involvement with the program media. "Television will need to review the production budget. Some of them can be taken down from the screen. As budgets of internal programs are minimized, they will need to negotiate with foreign producers. This is a difficult but necessary moment. Previously Television maintain good assisting production standard, although a public media always work with smaller budgets than private television

The bold one is something mentioned in connection with Eurovision in the discussion studio last week.

The woman was from the right one, which is strange, because BNT was one of the few media which crticised the former right government as well. Now our broadcaster just does the same with the new government and they seem to be very angry about that. :D
