Oh please! He sings it. That is the point. You identify of course the content of the song with the one who sings it. Or would you think about Fredrik Kempe who wants that somebody "undoes his sad"? xrofl3

I know for example a singer who had writen the song by his own and he didn't mean a single word from what he sang...so I don't think that Axel needs any doctor.But if you think that the lyrics are really so emparrasing then I think that you mean the lyricist

Of course a singer is not always to identify with the person in his songs. But in most cases, and especially in this category of songs, it is intended. In the particular case of Axel, it is obvious - not only by the lyrics - but also by the interpretation and the staging (his mother being constantly filmed, his boyfriend/brother/manager - whoever being completely in tears) that one wants the audience to believe that Axel himself adresses his very own mother. Otherwise, people would not be touched and the whole setting would be quite absurd.

It's the whole arrangement that is too much and thus odd. There's nothing embarassing of cherishing ones mother. But not so exaggerated, not so dramatic, not so over the top. If a grown up person in a real life situation would express his feelings for his mother in that was, it would indeed be quite a oedipal fixation. But of course he's on stage. So - I'm not judging Axels need for a doctor (that would be quite silly).

The embarassing thing is the fact that the Axel and his team use a very personal subject and display it openly to the public in a very exaggerated way to get the maximum of attention and feelings. That's what tabloid papers also do when they pull out the most personal details of people to get cheap emotions. Or to put in in other words - by overdoing it, it becomes ridiculous.

So from this that I understand the fact that he sings about his mother is this that annoying you. Well this is personal for everyone so I can't judge you it's clear. But at first I thought that he or the whole song and the way that he sings it seems embarrasing to you

He is not bad, but come on! How corny is it to sing about one's mother, unless it's the JESC! :)

As remembered in previous posts, Axel is not the first to sing about his mother. Think of :
- Jean-Jacques, for :mc:, in 1969 (Eurovision 1969 - Jean Jacques - Maman, maman - YouTube) ;
- Patrick Fiori, for :fr:, in 1993 (Mama Corsica - France 1993 - Eurovision songs with live orchestra - YouTube) ;
- Polina Smolova, for :by:, in 2006 (Polina Smolova - Mum (Belarus) 2006 Semi-Final - YouTube) ;
- Anastasiya Prykhodko, for :ru:, in 2009 (Anastasia Prikhodko - Mamo (Russia) - Eurovision 2009 (The Final) - YouTube).

On the other side, there's only one song of JESC that speaks over one's mother :
- Vladimir Arzumanyan, for :am:, in 2010 (Vladimir Arzumanyan with "Mama" from Armenia: The winner of the 2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest - YouTube).

Funnily enough, Vladimir won the JESC that year. Is it a sign ? xthink

well a bit both. I wouldn't mind his mother being the topic of his song , if it was in a decent way. But it's the exagerated way he deals with the Topic that scares me off a bit. (compare it to Charles Aznavours "la mamma" to understand what I mean. Of course in that song it's about death also which makes the focus different, but it's even more personal and cherishing without overdoing)
Thus said, I do think he's got a brilliant voice and I would never judge him as a person.

This seems logical to me. It has to do about your own opinion and taste so it's something that I can't judge

Thanks for going through the trouble to list all the previous "mom" songs. I don't know, I find it weird when a grown up man sings about his mother and in such an exaggerated tone. I don't get sincerity he is trying to project at all. Probably that song is wrong for him.

I like this a lot. It sounded just great at the Sportspaleis in Antwerp. I'm not sure though what's gonna happen in Copenhagen. I think the juries will vote for it but what about the people? He has a really special voice, but the song is not really great. I think the dancer's performance lifts the moment a lot also. Anyway, it deserves to be in the top 5, I believe.

It was definitely very impressive what you did. You probably sit on a big database of Eurovision goodies… :D

Mainly Wikipedia... I help to write the French pages in relation with the Eurovision.

Ruslana from Ukraine?

Yes ! :D She was part of the expert jury who chose the songs for the candidates. Didn't you follow our national selection ? If not, a little interview of this living goddess, with all the explanations :
