The fact that there are any artists at all willing to represent Belarus this year is disgusting and the participants deserve nothing but scorn.

Indeed, w*ores of dictators deserve all the scrutiny... i'm not here for this selection at all, I still believe it's a disgrace EBU has zero morals and allow the Lukashenko regime to use Eurovision as a platform with all that's going on.

Actual authoritarian states can participate just fine, it's just :kz: where EBU draws the moral line 🤡

Leave the politics out of eurovision! xcry
Competing artists have nothing to do with how the country is run. Worst case scenario: Lukashenko's close friend gets selected, and even then we should judge the song only, and not how they think about [political issues you care about]xmad

Haha indeed... putting all the opposition in prison and torturing peaceful demonstrators seems to be ok though for the EBU depending on the country

While I would usually agree with this statement, in this very case you can't disconnect the two unfortunately and I think we as fans also have a moral duty to stand on the right side of history here. Eurovision is a huge platform and we can't just turn the blind eye that the platform is used like this, I think we are are obliged to speak up and the whole "let's just sing and dance" while people are unlawfully imprisoned and tortured en masse just gives a bad taste.

How is this eurovision platform used exactly? Sorry if i misunderstood you, but Belarus never sent propaganda songs with subliminal messages. ("I Love Belarus" was way too upfront and in good fun - definitely not propaganda)

You don't need songs filled with faux messages about peace (hello Russia) in order for it to be propaganda, the fact that the broadcaster that is directly connected to and in control by the Lukashenko regime is invited and can use this huge international stage to whitewash their image and simply have it as a platform is propaganda in itself. In this way they are legitimized by the EBU and also uses the platform to portray a different image of themselves...

Ok, true, but why do want Kazakhstan to debut then?

That's maybe a topic for the Kazakh thread, but for me it's about consistency, if EBU insists on inviting dictatorships and war criminals then I don't see why they should close the door to Kazakhstan?, which imo isn't worse than Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan or Turkey (also I won't dig too deep into the topic, but some of the Kazakh opposition are really questionable groups). If there's anything I have a problem with it's the hypocrisy EBU is showing, either they have a moral code and live by it or they don't, I don't think it's fair to pick and choose really.

But yeah, I agree that based on my reasoning on Belarus, Kazakhstan shouldn't be invited either, but now EBU seem to not care about the Belarusian situation so all I can do as a fan and "concerned citizen of the world community" is to express my opposition and help to spread the word about the situation in Belarus. They (the Lukashenko regime) might have the Eurovision stage at their disposal, but we as a Eurovision community can do what we can to make sure they won't have it too easy, because just as they will use the stage to whitewash their image and unfortunately get legitimized by the EBU, the fact that it's a huge international stage can also backfire on them if we talk loud and clear since all eyes will be on them.

Problem with this whole situation is that after IIHF took away hockey WC and pentathlon from Lukashenka, he will use Eurovision as Europe validating his regime. He’ll lie and buff up his feathers on national tv. There might not be politics in Eurovision (even though there is), but it will be used as a propaganda tool in Belarus. Also NOBODY in their right mind is watching government tv channels. Nobody in Belarus will get behind selected entry. The hate will be on a new level. this entry will only be enjoyed by the rest of the Europe. Even if they win, people will never accept that artist or entry.
Belarusians have canceled multiple concerts and events by using social media begging others not to support the dictatorship. The level of $#it that awaits those who “get in bed” with a dictator is petty high too.
When people have been beaten, raped and killed in jails. When there are ~200 political prisoners. When there’s basically a concentration camp being built for those who oppose the regime... trust me. Nobody’s in the mood to support a singer selected by BTRC. And claiming neutrality and it being “just singing” won’t work. The situation is too black and white. That artist will never work in new Belarus. We remember those who supported us and those who betrayed us.

im glad that Napoli refused to participate. I’m sad if Chakras will. I don’t really give a fx about any Russian/Ukrainian/Marsian artist who thinks it’s ok to enter this circus. I’ll be openly against anything Belarus sends under bloody dictator flag. I haven’t stopped crying since August. My heart and soul hurt for my country.
you guys enjoy. But I won’t be part of this thread this year.

Well all these songs are truly tragic haha. I hope that the bigger acts (or rather better) did not release their songs yet.
