Stay
The story barely started
Can't you
Stay
Do you really want no part of this
Oh so sweet
Reverie
You back off slowly through the door
You always go and blame the weather
The weather

It hurts so fast
When love goes bad
Until at last
We fade to black

And I'm numb, numb
Numb, numb

Wait
I need some time to fix this can't you wait ?
We can't afford to miss this
You back off slowly through the door
You always go and blame the weather
The weather

It hurts so fast
When love goes bad
Until at last
We fade to black

And I'm numb, numb
Numb, numb

We're living in a memory
The present is the price I pay
Fade to black
Fade to black

It hurts so fast
When love goes bad
Until at last
We fade to black

He would be more popular if he released his Entry 2 Weeks earlier.
In a few Weeks his late Release will be forgotten thankfully.

Those things dont matter at all, results are 95% based on the night and on the performance.

Actually I have done a 180 with this and really liking it now, the turning point was him and his beard, so cute  hah

I guess it's more like 50% on the night of the contest because the jurys decide their points on the rehearshal to be fair...

My review:

A really uneventful ballad, it's forgotten already after hearing it, it does remind me of some type of songs Azerbaijan tend to send to Eurovision, but in a much weaker package. Also, the singer sounds weak in studio version, so not sure how it will be live? Very standard Eurovision-ballad but really without anything really.

As @Matt has said, he couldn't remember the melody of this entry even after three listens. I have the same experience. However, it remains to be seen - and heard - how well the singer can perform live in Turin. If he does really well, I guess his current 18th spot in the odds is plausible.

It‘s really a fade to black… despite of
the fact that there never is anything substanial to fade out.
When I read comments on the YT channel
saying: „winner alert“ I‘m baffled…

It’s funny, I‘m the total opposite, I could remember anything from the song just after listening to it one time. It’s a very common line of music notes from low to high plus the "I‘m numb“ sounds pretty familiar because it’s the instrumental part after the chorus in "Babe" from Styx (the younger people won’t probably know). And the „fade to black“ part is also very similar to songs we‘ve heard. His voice fading there literally makes it so memorable. I can honestly say it’s an amazing song and I truly mean it. Still 12 points and it shares my first place with Ochman. In the ranking I will put Ochman first but there‘s only small nuances.

It JUST occurred to me why the song sounds so familiar… I feel a similar vibe to Czech Republic 2016 (I stand). Which was my #2 that year, so now it is clear to me why I love :az: this year!

The more i listen to this, the more i think it's really underrated. It may not seem as "direct" as you would want a ESC entry to be, but i'm sure with the right staging - and they'll probably bring it - this will really connect with people right away and make top 10, even a win isn't totally out of the question, at least a jury #1 is likely.

I knew it that Azerbaijan will be sacrificed in favour of Australia. But then depending on how Georgia's act is going to stage their song, if it's going to be something ridiculous, then Azerbaijan could potentially stand out since it's being sandwiched by 2 WTF entries.

For now, I'm putting Azerbaijan into the 50-50 bucket.

I heavily disliked "Scream" when it released and seeing it compared to "Fade To Black" isn´t far-fetched since both songs are more "theatrical" than musically/sonically "comforting". - They are slightly too artsy-fartsy for my liking in terms of enjoying a ballad - some lyrical content doesn´t make sense to me ("I swallow hard" vs. "You blame the weather") and I hate the built-up in both songs.

However, I prefer "Fade To Black" due to it´s "numb" part which indeed sounds very familiar and I like the contrast of this and the slow, quiet and fragile "when love goes bad" part. Also, Nadir´s voice sounds really good on this track.

Anyway, I gave it a :6: in the poll - it may be growing on me after the release of the compilation and Azerbaijan usually pulls of a great and enjoyable performance but I don´t take it back: It´s my least favourite Azberbajni entry since 2008 (for now) and it´s the one of only 3 Azerbaijani entries who missed being part of my personal Top 10 (2008, 2019 are the other two occasions).

Late to the pity party on this one! I can see juries liking this easily, it also builds nicely, which will be the key in the televote. Not calling it a dark horse just yet, but if it doesn't qualify...

I maintain my opinion that I will be surprised if :az: does qualify this year. And if they do then some placement from 16th to 25th is what I predict. I find the song itself as weak as 'X My Heart' which was the only NQ for :az: so far and they actually did stage it well, the vocals were on point etc.

Wow only #11 in the odds in the semi final. That semi is a mini bloodpath tho.
I think AZE will bring good staging and they will qualify, possibly leaving Czechia Republic out ( or even Cyprus if the staging isnt good ).
