The song was decent but what I think really did Aisel in was that she was being forced to sing a song in a genre she does not really identify with. It came across as too contrieved and polished. I'm sure Aisel is a great singer, but that was not her genre and it clearly was not her song, either, and it showed. From what I've seen, the same is being done with Chingiz. Anytime the broadcaster does that, they risk having the artist come across as disingenuous and insincere. I haven't seen Chingiz perform this song, but I'm curious as to whether he even likes it, and how he will sell it.
That's quite true. But then again, making the artists sing something out of the norm will also help to push the singers out of their comfort zone. Maybe it didn't work with Aisel (although I really love the song, I thought it's lovely), hopefully it is not a problem for Chingiz. He seems very charimastic (and his good looks definitely help). This contemporary style could work for him. I can't wait for him to attend any ESC pre-party. That would be a great platform for him to rehearse and try to get things right.
