Samra was flawless and excellent vocally and even managed to connect to the audience. xcheerxcheer The LEDs were a bit confusing at first but then she got all the attention and you forgot about them. Overall a very powerful act and if she can repeat it in the finale, she's a sure top 10.

Have we watched the same performance? :?

On a positive note, Im impressed by Samra's reply to this political statement during the press conference. She is really sweet and Im sorry that she got involved in this disgusting conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Sadly that doesn't change the fact that she didnt deserve to qualify.

I can only remember her lips somehow.

Nah, it was an ok performance. But after hearing the audio track I find the lyrics sort of sloppy. Only now I am learning about this Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict and getting to wonder if the similarities of wardrobe by both performers were something else other than a pure coincidence. I guess not.

LOL I have no idea what show you saw, but I definitely refer to ESC semi 1. She made some weak rehearsals with a problematic voice, yes. What exactly was wrong I don't know, but when it came to the real thing she simply delivered. Semi final performance huge difference compared with the rehearsals IMO. But then again I usually love the Azerbaijan songs (except perhaps the winning song 2011) and their singers have usually both adequate training and exceptional talent.

Sorry but I think this song didn't deserve to qualify for saturday. There were other songs way better than "this"... Iceland, for example.

lame song and vocals...

This is one of my favorite songs this year and from what I can can tell it's criminally underrated.

It's a superb song written (of course) with help from Swedish songwriters and producers. The staging is great and captivating, and Samra looks great. I see a lot of people complaining that she's not good live, but from what I saw in the semi-final, it wasn't bad at all? Maybe her rehearsals were less good, but she certainly delivered when she had to. Besides, since when has Eurovision been about the best live vocal? Didn't Lena win for Germany in 2010? When Azerbaijan won last time in 2011, Nikki wasn't the most solid live performer either, but I'd argue that flawless vocals is not the most important thing with a contribution, by any means. If Samra performs well on Saturday, I predict a top 12 finish at least.

From what I know her rehearsals were pretty bad. Our commentators thought last night's performance was her best so far which might have helped her. I do think the song is great.

And regarding :az: 2011: it's almost universally regarded as(one of) the least deserving winners of the decade.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. That the rehearsals were bad. But the large majority of the viewers (and voters) would have no clue about that. So if she delivers like she did in the semi-final (she still could make some improvements on the verses, especially) I think she'll do well. The song is really catchy and gets stuck in your head.

Several music journalists and musicians in Norway have it as their favorite, which also makes me believe it could do well among the juries (at least in the Scandinavian countries and parts of Western Europe) as well. Obviously we're not talking winning, but top 10 is within reach, I think.

(As for their 2011 entry, I like it, but it's not a song that screams Eurovision. It was a more streamlined pop song. Good for what it was, though.)

It's indeed very catchy and the average audience May not care about her vocals which might help her in televoting. However I still expected her to stay in the semi-final because the staging wasn't that memorable imo and I expected a very low score from the juries. Not low enough to DNQ tho. I think she got 8/9/10th place in the semi-final. I think that juries might give her low scores in the final again.

The studio version is one of the best songs this year though

It wasn't one of the best winners, but definitely not the least deserving. 2011 was a very weak year. Ell and Nikki were the best of a bad bunch. I'd have preferred a Romanian win, but Azerbaijan deserved their day in the sun. The least deserving winner of the decade? Without doubt, Emmelie de Forest. Only someone without ears would vote that above the sublime Kedvesem - one of the best Eurosongs of all time IMHO.

^..: Sorry but :az: 2011 was awful, they couldn't even sing the song properely. :dk: 2013 is, on the other hand, one of the best Eurovision winner (together with Loreen) IMO

Is that true that Samra participated in The Voice of Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijan 2011 was a good winner when you consider how bad the year was

I can't believe it took me that long to realise... that that should be the first year that Azerbaijan didn't hold Turkish flags in green room.
