re: AZERBAIJAN 2014 - Dilara Kazimova

I think most of us realize by now that the constant 12's from Malta to Azerbaijan is not really connected to Azeri acts doing some promo in Malta... in fact it's probably during those promo trips where one part of the delegation spend some time with Maltese tele companies and the other part with the Maltese ESC jury members... $$$

I cannot rule out any possible bribery... and split televotes were never revealed to back this argument up. I don't know what to say at this point tbh other than, let's wait if it will happen for the fifth year in a row xshrug

I´m not a big fan of Azerbaijan in Eurovision, but I hope they confirm for 2014 soon and send something like in 2009.

Same here, actually "Hold me" was probably my favorite entry to date. It's outdated but melodically I am actually quite fond of it. I have nothing against mainstream pop songs but their songs always feel sooo...I don't know.....disingenuous.

The entire rigging situation obviously makes it even more difficult to root for Azerbaijan. Actually I wouldn't be too shocked if Azerbaijan won't take part next year due to the circumstances.

I want them to stay in competition, and on my opinion they deserved all that good positions in finals all those years cause every year they send great songs. Maybe they have too aggressive promo campaigns but with songs and singers they choose year by year they deserve every single points.

I don't think a country that rigs and bribe should even deserve to stay in the contest... but that's just me.

And what exactly did they deserve? Everything in their entries were imported (songwriters + composers + producers + background singers + choreographers + promotion teams)... I mean it's not as if the entries were all awful or anything (2008 was awful though), but I can't say that they had success based on their own merits and fair-play... and as far as entries go, decent but soulless... which in the end is not that surprising considering they were all calculated imports and no heart were put into these entries.

I have to agree there... the only remotely Azeri thing to grace the Eurovision stage was that instrumental-flute (duduk?) during Sabina's performance, wasn't it?

Fair play though, it seems they're holding onto the 'if it ain't broke, why fix it' formula - importing instantly likeable pop songs, a good presentation and voila, guaranteed votes. In a way, they're doing a good job.

Well we'll see it this year, considering the whole results will be revealed, including the individual jury votes. But that might be exactly the reason why Azerbaijan will not get Malta's 12 this year

We (PL) gave 10 points in 1st semi final to Azerbaijan and 7 points in grand final :D

See, this is why I can't trust that there's no bribery involvements in ESC...

Whether they deserve their position based on the merit of quality is up for debate. Some may say 'yes' others "hell, no".

The point is though that even if we all agreed that their results over the years were deserved, that doesn't mean we should just get over any alleged vote rigging. It is going to be difficult to prove they're guilty beyond a reasonable doubt so the change in jury and televote transparancy starting next year is a big first step into the right direction.

If the EBU can proof that rigging occured that was initiated by the broadcaster or government then I hope Azerbaijan will get an appropriate penalty (and I'm not talking about a 2000 Euro fee and a slap on the wrist).

The best Swedish football player is Zlatan Ibrahimović, guy born in Sarajevo. So if Sweden (and many other countries) can buy athletes why Ictimai TV can't buy the songs. Probably its not fair and not in fair play spirit but its allowed. When was the last time we see something typical Swedish on ESC?

Zlatan "bought"? The guy is born in Sweden for your info... so I'm not sure what point you wanted to make with that comparison? xshrug

It's not about sending something "typical", but atleast sending something on your own merits made by talents from your own country and not just paying for others to do the work for you each year. If you always have to rely on importing everything then exactly WHAT in those entries represents your country's music scene? Because I can't see it atleast... and the whole concept of ESC is entries representing their countries.

The real fraud last year is the way the Danish and Swedish juries voted. This is something that should be investigated by EBU. Azerbaijan was the second big favorite to win Eurovision and the jury of Sweden gave them the 15th place while the Danish jury gave the 18th place(!!!!!) , 18th and 15th place to a song that came second and was voted from almost all countries!! If this is not a scandal then what is a scandal?
