Austria's ASMR commentator voice of the Song Contest died today, Mr. Ernst Grissmann,. RIP

He commented for decades until 2008.

I chose the ESC 1994 for example because the cute host Jerry has gone too soon.

But FM4 doesn't directly mean it's good music... ;) Also the comparison to Sanremo, interesting...

I would say since Cesar Sampson we had certain difficulties in the selection process almost every year, except for 2020 maybe. In 2019 PANEDA wasn't the first choice and they didn't directly agree on the right song. We all know how that ended. In 2021 Vincent was too lazy to write/ get a good song in time and then we got a rather underwhelming song (I guess with his 2020 we would have qualified). And in 2022 a good decision was made concerning the song, but the artist wasn't able to deliver the demanding vocals in a decent way live + the staging was a mess.

So I wouldn't directly say the people that were behind the selection process are the wrong people.

I can see how hard it is to find the whole package in a small country like :at:. Eberhard Forcher for example for sure wasn't always a 100% convinced about the choices that were made. But good ideas like Bilderbuch simply didn't work out...
I just wanted to state that FM4 is not really comparable with OE3 or the radio channels that were involved in germanys selection. If I would involve a radio station than I would go for FM4. And I did not say that FM4 stands for good music. I meant like in Italy we could send acts that dont care that much about eurovision but just want to present their music. There is a lot of excellent music throughout the year in Austria but they just dont keep these songs for eurovision. Maybe because they think that these songs dont fit to eurovision which in many cases is not right I think. In my opinion ORF should change the general approach.

I liked him and his sarcasm very much. With Ernst Grissemann and Andi Knoll Austria actually had and has always (with some short interruptions) very good commentators with a good sense of humor.

I hope Austria takes Netherlands 2022 and S10 as inspiration and sends something like this:

I doubt it will happen though...

So do we have a date yet?
I think there hasnt been anything announced officially.
I have been following many of last years participants in the austrian selection. One of them has been very busy the last couple of weeks with announcing a "big thing coming up", changing her name, announcing a new website, posting pics of online business meetings....... I guess Austria will go for a female singer with a big voice. I am not sure of course thats why I wont mention her name.

The head of delegation Stefan Zechner tells in the latest Mérci Cherie podcast that ORF still had to deal with budgetary problems 3 years in a row after hosting the ESC, because of hosting the ESC.

Richard Österreicher, who conducted 12 austrian entrys between 1978 and 1991, died on tuesday. he was 90 years old.

"Richard Oesterreicher, a well-known musician who dominates the Austrian music scene, at least from the arrangements side, conducts the orchestra," This is how the late commentator Ernst Grissemann introduced Oesterreicher when he first took the stage at the Song Contest in Paris in 1978. He accompanied, among others, "Du bist Musik" by the Blue Danubes and "Keine Mauern mehr" by Simone.
The jazz musician conducted his last contribution in 1991 - "Venedig im Regen" by Thomas Forstner. In total, Oesterreicher was responsible for the orchestral sound of twelve entries. Since 1999, the Song Contest Orchestra has been history anyway. The time of playbacks had dawned. "It always had something of a company outing, it was all ORF employees who were there," Oesterreicher said in an interview with ORF.at in 2015. "At that time there was only a short rehearsal for the technics, a dress rehearsal and the performance."

Now it is official that the Austrian act will be announced next week, probably monday or tuesday. The act is female and the song is "different" like Eberhard Forcher wrote on fb this morning.
