Re: AUSTRIA 2019

Ina Regen will release an album in November. Is it in the realm of possibilities, that one of the not yet published songs of the album, is her entry for ESC. Is it allowed to take a song from a November release to ESC?

Re: AUSTRIA 2019

Any song released after and not performed before September 1, 2018, is allowed to participate in 2019.

She really is a hot candidate for 2019. She was in this years jury and gave an interview on the news show right after ESC, praising the winner. She also is respected by ORF and Ö3, so I think it would be no surprise if she gets nominated. She might interested in it anyway. And above she is remarkable.

She would absolutely be capable of creating a "Sobral moment".

Austrian musicians make me proud, better than Wincent Weiss & Company from Germany with their beige and pseudo-sophisticated songs.

Why not.
Maybe they come up with something that can appeal to juries and the public.

This year 3rd place, next year 1st. We are just warming up, baby.;)

i am quite sure that symphonix and orf will keep in touch and talk about possible songs. if they deliver a great song again, why shouldnt orf go for them again. its quite likely that symphonix will come up with a winning song sooner or later. and different to others opinion in my opinion orf is keen to win again.

I've often heard that ORF wanted a good result, but did not want to win. There's even an article in Der Standard where this opinion is expressed. But I think that this impression was wrong. The really want to do the shows one more time regardless of the costs. Look at how much effort they have put into the staging of Cesár.
The internally mighty technical departure of ORF had much fun with the production of the ESC 2015.

ESC Team Leader Stefan Zechner is quoted before (!) this year's contest: "We want to win - you do not go to a contest to finish third." (sic!)What that would mean in the case of cases specifically for the ORF, he did not know, but he didn't seem to care. At the same time, Zechner acknowledged the work of Eberhard Forcher, who this year again was part of the selection team: "Eberhard Forcher has become a real truffle pig in the scene."

It's good to see that ORF takes Eurovision so much more seriously than before. Conchita's unexpected victory after they wanted withdraw, still tastes very sweet. I only hope, that ambition does not turn into bitterness when the next victory is not achieved or when they even fail to qualify. Victories don't come easy, just ask Russia and Italy, they could have won at least twice in the last 8 years. But failure and disconent come very easy. ORF's withdrawal in the 2000's was part of the story why juries are back now, but it is also based on anger and bitterness.

The example for ORF should not be Sweden with its slightly overproduced and polished acts that are competently designed to win, but rather Belgium or the Netherlands. They mostly bring fresh acts with a certain edge that are really relatable. If ORF could bring something like these, but more consistently and with competent stagings, that I would really satisfied and another win could come out of the blue, but a Top 10 streak even more probably. If they only rely on pop radio songs and jury support, an eventual win would take forever and a streak of good results expire soon.

Cesar had a perfect pop song but it was not relatable enough for televotes. Makemakes and Nathan Trent were really bland, elevator music that does not hurt nor appeal. Zoe had it though, but the dancebeat killed the jury appeal. We need to deliver interesting acts like Zoe and Conchita going forward.

I totally agree. They have to appeal to televoters without losing the juries totally and then add relevance. More emotion than Cesár put across doesn't hurt also. It's an attempt to square the circle.

But I am satisfied to see, that ORF realized this year that you have to throw money into a tastefully staging also, if you lack the things above. It is a sign that ORF is taking this seriously. That's a good starting point.

Re: AUSTRIA 2019

60,000€ for the staging is a cheap price for a Saturday night TV show anyways
