Hope some people will not fell offended, is not my intention…
First time when I watched Austria’s entry (the official video) I felt disgust ; not because a man poses as woman, but because of the image of the woman he provides, a hybrid. I was focused on character rather than song. Second time I tried to not be distract from listening the song. It sound like an old classic film, something I listened before, something known, but after the first 30 seconds I realized that the power reside in the lyrics “Waking in the rubble ,walking over glass, Neighbors say we are trouble, well that time has passed. Peering from the mirror, no, that isn’t me,stranger getting nearer, who can this person be?” So, I had to re-watched it for the third time because it all made sense now and all the artistic act show that the distinction between ego and world is made by spitting out part of the inside and swallowing in part of the outside. I needed three times to see beyond the surface. Maybe I’m stupid, but I think most of the audience is like me, so I don’t give much chance to Austria, because if you see this act for the first time, you’ll be focusing on appearance, and ignore all rest, its inevitable. Most Eurovision viewers are not English native speakers so they will not “hear” the lyrics because of the shock, they will not even make the effort to understand the lyrics, so the entire act would not make sense and would think it's a cheap parody. ( The performance on stage is not disturbing at all, I saw the rehearsal, but the official video is a little bit disturbing).
