Re: AUSTRIA 2012

So what? Why bother about Conchita's appearance? Her song is so catchy, I love it!

Don't judge a book by its cover, they say. Lordi was a pure masquerade too, kind of devilish, satanic. No one cared!

But a bearded ladyman upsets everyone here?!

You're comparing different things. Lordi were a rock/metal act and hard rock is famous for masquerading, including wearing heavy make up...the band Kiss were so heavily made up that they looked like they were wearing masks and that was back in the '70s...from that to real masks it's not that far. Same goes for Verka, his appearance suited his comic act. Silvia Night was also a fictional character like Conchita but remember what kind of song she sang in eurovision...a song to match her fictional personality.
But Conchita's appearance does not suit the music he sings..not his ballad in the Austrian final anyway. Surely when you hear a ballad, you don't expect to see a bearded man with long hair and breasts.
Still, I would overlook his appearance if the song was amazing but it's not.

I don't claim that Conchita's song is particularly meaningful and philosophic, but she transports a message of tolerance, since she is singing about being what she is. She is not just a fictional character, she embodies a "Who are you to judge me"-attitude which I highly appreciate. And her song is still good, and suits her appearance very well.

Whatever, Austria could still decide for something different. And it will always be the same story: Austria will be the punching bag for Eurofans ...

(How dare they? How ridiculous? What a shame! This is embarassing! I was never fond of Austrian entries anyway!)

I love how people call Conchita a "her" when it's just an act and character
When a man plays a woman I always call his character "her" which is pretty logical.
If you can't divide a man from his character that's not my problem.

Well as you put it it's a character, and I don't tend to call characters a she if it's not.

Usually I tend to call people "she" if they're females or males that genuinely feel themselves being women and also goes for it.

But we're all have different perceptions I guess.

she?

Oh well, I guess we all have different perceptions.

Imo there are people who truly feel they belonged to the wrong sex, and then there's people like Conchita (Tom) who uses it as an act to cover up that they don't have anything other to offer.

There's no genuine "shes" that would want to have a beard, this is just an act.

And I don't mind female characters played by men (and vice versa).
Actors and musicians sometimes plays different people and it's natural. According to such logic a maniac should play a maniac.
I don't see why men shouldn't play women and it's my perception, yeah.

But he's not an actor though. He put up an "act", but it's for attention seeking rather than actually doing something with this act.

I have no problem with men playing women and vice versa, but I still call John Travolta in "Hairspray" a "he" neverthless

Muahaha  I would called him a "he" as well, but his character is a "she".
Musicians become actors on stage sometimes. It's not just about showing who you really are.

The main thing with any song is music, not the lyrics (though I like when the lyrics touch me), and I can tell you there is not any type of quality in Conchita's song, not speaking from the view of my personal taste, but a person that has finished 12 years of music school.
The song is, musicwise, bad, and that is the fact.

I figured out why you are so upset about Conchita. Her song sounds like swedish schlager and her attire resembles famous swedish drag queens Carolina and Charlotte with an extra-beard. :D

The song from Krautschädl sucks and last year's bulgarian entry was not really a success story....

Carolina who?

No he looks like a gypsy lady with a beard, and his song sucks aswell.

I'm very picky when it comes to schlager, in 90% of the cases I don't like schlager.

Hmmm, that Conchita just freaks me out - can't help but screw my face up when I look at her/his face! None of these songs are particularly ground-breaking for me, so I'd probably need to see them being performed to form a final opinion.

you're right but thats because esc needs some more rock to get used to it. i don't want a schlager/dance-pop Festival. all genres of music should have their place in this contest. esc needs more diversity in music.
the song of poli genova was great and also 'Einsturzgefohr' is great. i don't remember that austria ever sent a cool rock-song like this.

Re: AUSTRIA 2012

I wanna see Trackshittaz! They are very entertaining and they will bring diversity to the field this year. They also undoubtedly have the most catchy song. It's definitely not my personal taste, but there's no good songs in Austria this year anyway, so they might as well just choose the song that will give them the best result - "Woki mit deim Popo"xbounce
