I'm starting to be afraid Australia will win by default just for the novelty of it all. I thought that when their participation was announced but I changed my opinion when the song was released. It really would be unfair because the song is nothing compared to some of the others!

That feeling has strike me too, "Tonight again" would not have been nearly as hyped if it would have been :mk: or :sm: entries. It is a good song but not a winner

Actually I wouldn't call myself a fan of the Australian song but I always have a pre-even with my friends here in Los Angeles, who are not Eurovision fans at all. The two songs that everybody seems to universally love are Australia and Italy. While I'm pretty sure that there will be some hype around Australia, the song itself is popular enough to impress. It'll come down to the live performance and whether or not people will connect with it.

The issue at hand is that even if Australia ends up winning, it'll always be tainted by people saying "That's because they're Australia" which is unfortunate so hopefully people will keep an open mind to it and consider the possiblity of people loving the song. Our Panel on ESC United actually has it in 2nd place currently.

Probably because the most comments when it was announced they would participate was: "OMG, I´m gonna vote for them no matter what they send"

Where did you come up with that? Maybe there are a few people who'd say that but there are just as many people refusing for Australia due to the controversial decision of letting them in.

The people I talked to don't even quite understand the concept of Eurovision or the criteria who can and cannot take part.

I have read mostly on Facebook and other social media. And those comments you mentioned and the one I mentioned has been the most featured ones

The song is mediocre; if there isn't anything odd Australia won't win. The song is not bad, but let's be honest - it's not a winner song, in no way! Probably Australia will score better than the song deserves because it's Australia and all the hype about it participating, but I wouldn't understand if people vote it to win. That would just not be fair, but in the end... it's Eurovision, everything can happen. I won't be too mad. After all, apart from two or three song, I#d be happy with ANY song winnig this year. That includes Australia.

That is a very subjective point of view. The song is not near my personal top either but just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not deserving. It's overall in the Top 10, just check this source where tons our polls (including our awesome one) are added up together. Australia's song is really popular, you have to accept that fact. Whether this will translate into a good score next month remains to be seen of course.
FYI, in that same poll Austria was 7th and Netherlands 15th last year.

As said, I think people will just use the "Australia won just because it's them" excuse no matter what. Which is unfortunate cause it really eliminates the ability to have constructive conversation.

Things like this are probably why he was kicked out of the reference group....he can't keep his mouth shut

Like that comment he made after Sanna drew first half and he just laughed and said her chances weren't hurt at all because they were guaranteed best possible spot regardless

Voted "top-10", but I think what this songs deserves is "somewhere in the middle". It's obvious there will be so much hype this year just because it's Australia. What I really hope is this hype is not so high to make them win, cause that would be really unfair, firstly from a musical point of view, and then it would really damage the future of the contest.

BTW It's really good news that Mr. Bjorkmann was kicked out of the reference group. Eurovision can only get better without him, so we should celebrate xcheer

He may no longer be on the board officially but I still think his dark presence still looms around

For once I agree, he should stick to be HoD, not higher than that.

I wonder why you all don´t like him at all? Everything that has been introduced the last years is not only his fault. He has some very strange thoughts of course but still

the chairman of the reference group just made a statement saying that bjorkman's comments were premature and the decision wouldn't actually be made until after australia wins.
edit: oops, didn't see the comments from earlier, forget this!

ESCToday has a poll running on the issue.

Where should Eurovision be hosted if Australia wins?
The runner-up country - 48%
United Kingdom - 20%
Another country - 15%
Australia - 9%
Germany - 7%

Seems nobody wants Germany
