I just hope that Australia will not get special treatment during the shows. With that I mean Guy having a lot of air time during the green room interviews, or them making a special VT to commemorate Australia's debut. They are a participant country this year so they should be treated like all the others, no differences.

This song is just too average to stand out... it will be in top 5, but far from winning the whole thing. :?

I do believe the EBU secretly want Australia to be a permanent participant and the whole one year guest thing is simply their way of easing the general population into it

Australia winning will simply make the whole "back by popular demand!" memo they will most likely pull out all the more easier xshrug

I expect Australia to get some real "grande amore" from the jury. Maybe not as huge as Italy 2011 but still I would be shocked if they didn't get any. Enough to make them win if the televote is close...who knows

I'm pretty sure Australia will become a regular participant, and they won't need to win in order for that to happen I think. Just a top ten will be enough for the EBU to say "they did so well, and the Australian people liked the experience so much! We can't deny their participation now!"

Oh I completely agree, I was just saying it would make it much easier for them and they don't have to be as sensitive about it. They can do whatever they want but they would have a better leg to stand on saying the winner should be allowed to participate the next year then they would simply for a country that place top 10.

Top 10 is pretty much guaranteed without struggle. While there would be people who won't vote for Australia because they dislike it's participation there are probably just as many people who would because of the novelty.

If you watch the ARD song check for example, you can see that Australia seems to be the experts biggest favourite (beside Sweden) and I also noticed many people from my home country saying that Guy Sebastians Song is the only really modern one and might have good chances for a victory - so by now, I think that at least a good place (in the jury ranking) is likely for Australia!

This is a bit stupid to say, the contest is not exactly old-fashioned nowadays. Hopefully their opinion will change when they watch the shows.

DanielLuis GWTW1939 I second your posts. To me, you just spill the true tea about Australia's participation. Of course, they'll most likely be in the contest from now on and the EBU will do everything to make it look like it's because we Europeans want them to stay. Juries will love them, that's for sure.

DanielLuis, what you say about Australia's privileged exposure during the contest will happen imo. I'm going to hate that too because they are now competitors, but Sweden already did this "implicit" advertising about Denmark back in 2013, so I expect the EBU to favor Australia as far as screentime is concerned. And I'm already bored about the "Australia/Austria" joke they'll certainly make.

Don´t start again, what did we do? (the running order thing don´t count)

(The sign "see you next year in :dk:" was something SVT didn´t had anything to do with) We didn´t gave them more time on screen that nobody else (in the little break during voting doesn´t count either, she was leading, of course she get´s more attention)

DR on the other hand gave Sanna and Conchita pretty much room in their semis last year, I would say that was a bit more unfair

Of course Australia will get special attention. Austrian Tourism is an official partner this year and I'm sure one of their goals is to stop the confusion between Austria and Australia. So prepare for jokes about this topic being as common as Conchita being called the Queen of Austria was last year. If they fail, Austria will win again, which would also be nice.

I could have used another example, I'm not saying it originates from you. The Conchita obvious bias upset me a lot too, actually I hope for an equal treatment of everyone but that's not the case. Always the same ones in the limelight if you ask me. I think organizers and presenters shouldn't show their liking like they did because it's a contest that involves nations, it's not the same thing as splitting your sides laughing with friends, if you know what I mean.

I get your point perfect, I was a bit hard too, but I´m so tired of hearing "we favorised that and that". Everyone should be treated the same way in ESC each year, given the same amount of time on stage and so on

Last time I checked Australia was NOT part of Europe.
Because this whole thing is called Eurovision Song Contest, they can stay home and watch it on TV if they like.

Just my humble opinion.

Pro-Australia people will tell you that Israel, Azerbaijan or Marocco for instance aren't in Europe either, yet they took part in the contest.

But I think the same as you: Australia is like the most geographically distant country from Europe, and their participation would mean that basically any country in the world could join, provided they express some interest about the contest. It seems Canada, China & South Africa have been noticed by the EBU so I expect it to be a trend from now on.

I really hope we DON'T win.
Just think about how much uproar and controversy there'd be. >-<

Come on, the drama about Australia winning would be the best thing about it!
