Electric Fields' song is pretty enjoyable! I can't imagine, one of the sights unseen, that it isn't Sheppard vs. Courtney, but GOD I'd love it if they snuck in.

The main singer is (well, both singers are) actually a guy - he just uses an androgynous/effeminate voice for singing. Which does maybe make it a bit more difficult to imagine him nailing all those high notes live (though obviously the autotuned/distorted bits will be the real challenge).

Electric Fields' song is pretty enjoyable! I can't imagine, one of the sights unseen, that it isn't Sheppard vs. Courtney, but GOD I'd love it if they snuck in.

Sheppard does seem like the favourite based on artist popularity, but I'm not sure Courtney has much of a chance. She'll probably bring a good show but song-wise she's been dead last on literally every list I've seen from every Australian fan so far, and I've heard that her live vocals are... not great, to say the least. If she's going to get high up the scoreboards, she'll probably need a killer stage act, some loud backing vocals and a large group of casual viewers voting on the basis of novelty.

Electric Fields probably have the best chance to win out of all the songs revealed so far, at least based on the studio versions; it's definitely getting the most hype among Aussie fans. But when you factor in live performances, the four unrevealed songs, the jury and the question of "is the televoting audience going to be 90% ESC fans and 10% casual viewers or 90% casual viewers and 10% ESC fans"... it's incredibly difficult to predict anything with any confidence. Especially because this is our first NF, so there's no precedent to look at in terms of e.g. viewership demographics, jury preferences and even rules (regarding backing vocals, voting systems and so on).

If I was pushed I'd say that things are currently looking like "Sheppard vs. Electric Fields" - with maybe Mark challenging on the back of jury support, or at a stretch Aydan/Alfie if there's a surprisingly large casual audience. But a lot could change over the next couple of weeks.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

If esc fans make up 90% of the voting then you're never having a NF again because those viewing figures will be absolutely tragic and SBS would have haemorrhaged money for fans to make up such a large share. Correct me if I'm wrong but based on what you've said in the past, Eurovision doesn't really have a reputation as a serious music contest on Australia? So if your casual viewer is watching and voting they're going to think Courtney is the perfect choice, unless ofc she car crashes the entire thing or one of the others is just so hugely superior and wow to over come it. Given the UK as an example (and really our two countries are practically the same in almost every way) I think in past 3 NFs the public have probably made the best choice from what is seen live on tv, but I'm sure if the BBC threw in some big kitsch slice of camp cheese that would win. We will have to wait and see but if Courtney does perform well enough and nothing else is a big enough stand out the test will be how the casual viewers are thinking. Because really the esc fan vote is irelevent as there won't be anywhere enough to sway it one way or another. This is purely all speculation though so watch me be completely wrong.

Hmm, «2000 and whatever» is actually amazing! I’m curious how they’ll stage this - I mean having LED screens available in Tel Aviv opens up some doors and question marks how they should stage this entry. If it was last year in Lisbon, a light show would be fine I guess and fit the song... For now I’m imagining them having parts of the refrain «written» a’la Michael Schulte and Og3ne

I’m curious whether they performed live in that New Year performance or if the EBU will allow them to do such a thing like we did back in 2017

omg i thought it was a guy and a woman both based on voice and the silhouettes on the lyric video!! WIG i want them to win even more now

also SBS is a liked channel by EBU so maybe they'll get the JOWST Permission for the distorted bits lol

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Funny thing, I was on a party last night and was in charge of the music for an hour - I put on "2000 and whatever" and the reaction was pretty good :D
People were drunk though, but it was a song that got a pretty good response actually!

Just played "2000 and whatever" to my brother, and he gave me look that indicated "Why did you just do that to me?"

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Out of the songs released, I already have 2 songs that could be my NR 1 of the year.

Electric Field - 2000 and Whatever (This could not only win ESC, but also become a cult like Euphoria and influence the future winners. No matter how many times I hear, I can't get enough of this song. A reference to Istanbul, use of indigenous language, non-sense but musical lyrics)
Leea Nanos - Set Me Free (This song is just enchanting. I feel like I heard it in my previous existence.)

And people said Destination Eurovision is strong. Look at Australia, they have more gems than France with only half the songs revealed.

GIVE ME MORE, AUSTRALIA! READY TO BE SLAYED!

Electric Fields winning Eurovision? I think you might be letting your biases slightly get in the way there.

Why not? It's different from what we've seen before at ESC. It has an instant appeal, originality, and musicality.
If Netta won, why not Electric Field? We need to see the rest of the songs, still.

Saying it has instant appeal at this stage is a big stretch. It's not particularly musical either, but I'll give you originality. Comparing this to "Toy" though...even as someone who hated it, as soon as I heard it I knew it was going to fight for victory. I didn't get anything from Electric Fields. And we still have Sheppard and Kate-Miller Heidke to come.

Kate Miller-Heidke's song is out on spotify (if it's midnight where you live). It's a lot like La Voix lol. I'm sure she'll bring it live.
