I mean blaming Australia and not Israel to compete in ESC sounds pretty weird to me - yes Israel's not far from Europe while Australia's on the other side of the globe but fact is that no matter how close geographically Israel is Europe, they're still as much in Europe as Australia
The contest has been broadcasted in Australia for decades and is very popular down under and remember that Australia was colonized by Europeans so there's at least some ties to Europe
Australia has improved the quality of the competition (yeah not everyone will agree but i still think they have) and they are so professional except from the mess last year. I mean, I think they've been in contention to win for a majority of the years? Guy was a hot potato in 2015, in 2016 it was Dami Im's to lose imo, Jessica was a big heavyweight in 2018 until the first rehearsal when they didn't get their ideas through and Kate is now perhaps the closest challenger to avoid the Dutch from taking the trophy, so yeah I think Australia in 4/5 attempts have been in contention at one point to actually win the contest so they do care about the contest and bring quality. So the only year where they've never been in contention to a win perhaps is Firebrace 2017 but it was still a contender in some ways to do well and did finish 9th in the end
So Australia should do top five this year and everything points out that they will do so and that is with a highly experimental song where they've been taking the staging in this competition to the next level the first time they've produced their staging domestically, so I think we can expect a lot of great stuff from Australia in the years to come where they've already taken a bigger risk than for example Sweden has for years (I love Sweden though), and I don't think they'll slack off at all in the next years to come because they do want to win one day
I think Australia are really great in this compeitition and their presence is definitely doing this competition much more interesting for me personally
Their head of delegation is really great in my opinion
