Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Watched my favorite acts so far and have to say: They are blander than I thought live. Biggest problem for me are the prerecorded backing vocals for each track.
Especially for Sheppard thats a problem, because I dont see them deliver live at Eurovision, losing the anthemic feel then. However I like the energy they give.

Electric Field .. what a disaster on stage: So much prerecorded backing, so chaotic, and the bald man doesnt seem to sing live as well. Its just exaggerated in a very strange and awkward form.

Same goes for Kate... First of all, I dont like the camera shoots here. I could see this elevate on stage in Tel Aviv with better camera frames, better lighting, but it looks out of a musical, so ill-fitting for Eurovision somehow. Its missing a certain spark.

I personally see Alfie very high, after his beautiful performance. Very stripped back, I much prefer it like this over those over the top things. Same goes for Leea. Loved the simplicity. Courtney Act for me is allowed to overdo it, its unique, weird, draggish, but just suitable.

I dont know, I am a little disappointed tbh... :(

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Zero gravity wins and Australia goes to the bottom of my list and will likely stay there. The whole thing jumps about so much that it gives me whiplash. I honestly don't see it's appeal apart from people desperate for anything slightly different. Any of the others would be better.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I didn't want to watch the whole performances, but I saw the recap that was made and well....that made things even more confusing in who will win.

Electric Fields looked what I was afraid it was going to look, a little messy, but it is their style though so I can't blame them.
Sheppard was pretty messy too, which I had a feeling it would be since they are quite a large group.
Kate sang beautifully, but this was almost too wacky even for my gay ass. It felt like the deepness of the song got lost in the crazyness, which makes me worried.

Some looked much better than expected. Courtney looked really strong to be honest and that red heart outfit is absolutely spot on. Alfie sang beautifully and wouldn't be surprised if it does well with the juries.

So now, I don't know...maybe things change for tomorrow...hopefully. :?

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I watched them all. While not *as* great as the snippets seem to promise, it was still very good. You guys are overreacting a bit, I think.

1. Electric Fields - Mickeys wake up from your paranoid places! What does it even matter that Michael's vocals suck and the staging is lacking? Neither is fuckin' relevant to the performance, the centrepiece of which is the Force of Nature known to mankind as Zaachariaha Fielding. This genderfluid diva is a religious experience and I feel closer to the ancestral spirits for having witnessed him! I AM here for this uncoordinated, headscarf-whipping SUPERNOVA of springboard energy, irate screaming, interpretative aborginal dancing and soothing Wati squawks and if you're not willing to parttake in its realness, then it's your loss!
2. Sheppard - Sheppard are fiiiiiiiiiine relax (and also winning this NF, better we accept that now). They're way better than I thought they would be. Their vocals aren't perfect, but they're good enough for the song, which fortunately comes alive thanks to really clever staging. It's fun! Enjoy yourselves! You will in May when this song comes top five in the Grand Final.
3. Kate Miller-Heidke - As with most humourous acts, the shelf-life of acts like these depends strongly on how *long* the act remains funny before eventually growing stale, but the ensemble of jibberish lyrics + unwarranted falsettos + that fucking acrobat swaying back and forth like a metronome is fucking hysterical and get's me every time. WE STAN A LEGEND!!!!
4. Courtney Act - FINALLY Shane lives up to his stage name because his Act is bloody awesome. The on-stage transformation from basic ass songs into epic performances is one of many draws Eurovision has and Courtney delivers in that regard. I can definitely see her "Fight for LUUUUUV'" at Eurovision (where she will do about as well Jessican't Maubore)
5. Ellie - As a fellow plus-sized human, I approve anyone who is confident enough to show off those luscious curves. Having said that her song sounds like a B-side Kylie track.
6. Leea - I LOVE this song but this so ill-suited for Eurovision lmao. This requires a pristine voice and she ain't got it. Still if she somehow doesn't finish last, I'll consider it a huge moral victory for alternabitches all over the globe.
7. Alfie - A pretty stupid, repetitive song, but the orchestration + his excellent voice (+ his looks - hey at least I own up to my shallowness!) make me forgive it, somewhat. It's not my fave, but I can see it at Eurovision and it wouldn't bother me at all.
8. Tania - Girl go home this isn't MESC.
9. Aydan - There's something really irritating about the way Aydan sings and I cannot lay my finger on what it is, but whichever the case, it ain't even remotely interesting, so...
10. Mark Vincent - Ruslana did NOT lose her sanity five years ago just for another country to send a slightly less volatile variant of "Mother" to Eurovision proper. This Millenial Monroe does NOT decorate my world with his love.

1-4 + Alfie would be good at Eurovision. None of the others may win.

OMG … how disappointing. ALL Artists. C'mon! Where's the fire? Where's the passion? All the performances seem so bland and boring! Even Sheppard … And Kate's performance is the worsest of all. Tries to be bombastic, but is only ridiculous. No Australia for me this year, it seems when they don't work on their performnaces.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I'm not quite sure why all of y'all are Chicken Little-ing? I watched the snippets (well, the snippets that I cared about anyway), and I thought that they were pretty good.

Electric Fields remain an experience, and sure it's messy, but isn't that a bit of the point. The lead's spontaneity and magnetism are part of what makes the song special, and, I for one, would love to see that Aboriginal realness. While it would take a miracle for them to win, the likely winner is pretty good. I like "On My Way," but I had thought that it would be disappointing in the sense that it's too safe. However, I kind of think that Sheppard's earnestness offsets the safeness? Plus, they nipped the studio cut in the right places (and it was kind of needed to not be a bit monotonous.) I think they'd be fine winners and the first good Australian entry. KHM was also an experience (the acrobat xheart) and I finally ~get~ "Zero Gravity," the last minute is especially great imo. I also wouldn't mind seeing "Set Me Free" though Leea needs a bit of work or even Courtney Act despite having a horrendous song (the staging made it work well enough, though it would never stand out as a favo of mine.) Australia def needs to stick with national finals instead of internal selections because it makes them GLOW UP.

So the gimmick song got a gimmick performance as well :"D

Urgh Australia avoid this disaster pls...

Imagine thinking this would crash and burn at Eurovision. It absolutely wouldn't Electric Fields would. Sheppard would be top 10, but no more.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Sheppard are fine? like, the high notes sound a bit strained (but not as strained as say, those of Bilal Hassani), but the rest is good, their act's well-staged and choreographed, they bring forth a fun vibe. There's enough to appeal to both the audience and the juries. "On My Way" should make an Easy top Ten if they make it to Tel Aviv (EF could do this too, but it's less certain how well "2000 and whatever" will go down)

I am not a fan of Australia in Eurovision AT ALL (I hated #WeGotLove and I intensely dislike "Don't Come Easy" as well), but everyone is being too harsh on them this year. Don't take live perfoming for granted, that shit ain't easy. Especially for Synthpop groups, who usually do not perform live like that. (such artists very often switch to playback or acoustic during live concerts) None of these people are Queen, Lady Gaga or David Bowie, so don't make the assumption they can reach that level. Besides, whoever is chosen *will* be a lot better in Israel after weeks of rehearsing and conferring with a team of choreographers, stage directors, vocal coaches, etc.

Please. KMH isn't even going to beat Courtney.

It's Sheppard or Electric Fields. Sheppard win unless Electric Fields somehow figure out how to interact with the camera's and snag it from slot 02 against all odds (AND the juries downvote Sheppard somehow, which they won't). Either way, it's one of the two, and it will be Sheppard. Simple as that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Kate is going to beat Courtney. She seems like she'll easily come out ahead in jury votes, and as far as televotes go Kate has a lot of momentum with Aussie fans and a better running order.

As for the overall winner, that's much harder to say. But I'm currently thinking along the lines of juries going for Alfie > Kate > Sheppard > Leea as their top four, with televoters choosing Kate > Electric Fields > Sheppard > Courtney, off the top of my head. That's looking like a Kate win to me. I wouldn't be too surprised by Sheppard or someone else taking it, but I certainly don't think it's as clear-cut as you're assuming.

All are bad live but To myself, the only serious entry talking about a live show, I repeat he's the one!
