This feels like very bad news for Courtney and very good news for Electric Fields (their success with that notoriously pat organization genuinely made me gasp).

I hope Electric Fields win this..

They are by far my faves..

But I hope it will be good live...if yes I can see Australia doing good with audience again, better than with jury maybe.. :D

Being part of the OGAE Australia discussion page on Facebook myself, I actually wasn't too surprised by either of those things. I've noted a few times before in this thread that Electric Fields were probably the most popular act over there, and that Courtney herself is well-liked but her song is generally seen as a disappointment.

A few things did surprise me, though. I'd thought Sheppard would've been closer to Electric Fields, and that Kate would've been further off; based on these numbers, I'd have guessed something like Sheppard 510, Kate 470. That said, I think Sheppard will do better with juries and mainstream casual viewers than with OGAE, so they're not quite out of it yet.

Leea also did a fair bit better than expected – I'd expected her to do decently, but she's only a single voter's worth of points away from market leader Sheppard. Given that she's perhaps more mainstream-friendly and jury-friendly than Electric Fields and Kate, she could have a real chance here as a dark horse – e.g. in a scenario where she performs well, Electric Fields struggle live, Sheppard is fine but not winner material and Kate fails to attract the casual televote.

Going a little bit down the list, Ella got some more points than expected; I would've guessed she'd be further down near Tania, at 240 or something. On the other hand, I would've expected a few more for Aydan, not necessarily winning but more in 7th than last.

And seeing Mark in 8th is a little disappointing, though I haven't seen as much love for him as I would've liked anywhere, really, so it's not a big surprise.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Finally had chance to listen to all ten songs in one go. This is honestly a fantastic national final.

For all those who say Australia has no place in Eurovision, they've changed the game since they turned up.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

SBS has uploaded a Facebook video showing an acoustic performance of Electric Fields' song. Obviously the composition is different (and quite a bit easier to sing due to being slower), but the vocals sound pretty good!

I'd still like to replace the shrieky bits in the verses with an instrumental synth, because I'm not sure they work live. But past that, if these vocals can be replicated live, I think Electric Fields stands a decent chance.

This video confirms what I already suspected, which is that he does everything but the screams in chest voice. AMAZING xheat

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I'm torn between Electric Fields and Sheppard, but I think I prefer Electric Fields slightly at the moment :D
I'm excited for the stagings. Isn't the jury final soon in Australia though?

What worries me about the jury vote is that Paul Clarke is voting, which means that if his number one doesn't win, they'll have to live with the fact that they were probably his second or third or fourth choice lol

Oops, yeah, I meant to post that here earlier and forgot xshifty

That... does look kind of bad for Electric Fields on first glance, but on second thought it might not be the worst outcome for them.

The early open for voting, and short voting window after the performances, could mean that a late running order isn't quite as helpful here as in other NFs. Also, look at what the songs are surrounded by – Electric Fields comes after Ella and before Mark, both of which are pretty low on most people's rankings. Meanwhile, Sheppard is sandwiched between two other credible mainstream entries, and Kate comes after a run of three decent songs. In terms of standing out from the acts around them, Electric Fields probably does alright.

Of the three favourites, my interpretation is that this running order is best for Kate, then Electric Fields, then Sheppard (with Kate benefiting from the combination of late running slot, being a standout song after three safer options, and performing before arguably the weakest song of the lot).

The odds seem to work in with that interpretation too. Kate has shortened a bunch since the running order reveal, and was last matched at 3/1. Sheppard was also last matched at 3/1, making them equal favourites; and Electric Fields at 3.65/1 (those last two having not changed too much since the reveal).
