Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Please. KMH isn't even going to beat Courtney.

It's Sheppard or Electric Fields. Sheppard win unless Electric Fields somehow figure out how to interact with the camera's and snag it from slot 02 against all odds (AND the juries downvote Sheppard somehow, which they won't). Either way, it's one of the two, and it will be Sheppard. Simple as that.

Being that sure of yourself without any real evidence isn't very smart. You may end up being right, but it's too unpredictable at the moment. Kate has the momentum, that is undeniable, but that doesn't mean she will win. But the top 3 are pretty secure. Courtney finishing above Kate? What could possibly make you think that will happen?

I'm sceptical of Kate winning, though. Her song & act have very limited shelf-life and she's going to grown old real fast. Aussies love her, but would the rest of Europe? I am not so sure. I don't think letting her win is smart for Australia's chances (it's a MASSIVE risk) and I think the jury will foresee this and scuttle her, regardless of televote outcome.

(but you raise good points about her chances in the televote, which looks like it will be hers to lose. God I hope Electric Fields sweep it in a close second place.)

Courtney finishing above Kate? What could possibly make you think that will happen?

Courtney could win, actually. She is a good enough performer to snatch jury votes and if the juries were to downvote Sheppard and Electric Fields (again, they won't downvote the former, but this is purely hypothetical), she could snag *just* enough televotes to barely edge out The Big Three. As of right now, she and not KMH the only shock winner I see.

(ftr, I love Ze e e e ro gra a a a a vity, but under this selection format she's severely disadvantaged. Christer will ensure she's DESTROYED. I'd rather anticipate the worst and hope for the best, than delude myself the best will happen because I want it to happen, only be disappointed by reality.)

Australia really can't fuck this up. Electric Fields, KMH, Sheppard, Courtney and to a *much* lesser degree Alfie would make decent entries. Each come with their drawbacks, but they have potential and options, and that's more than what a country like the UK or Latvia can say about their selection.

You might be right about Kate having a short "shelf life" in terms of interest, yes. But I think the same criticism could be levelled equally against Electric Fields and Courtney, plus maybe Sheppard as well due to the song's basic sound... so I'm not sure it'll be a big factor in determining what we want to send.

Especially because, as fans often forget, the large majority of Eurovision voters don't care about how well a song ages. The bulk of the viewership is casual fans, and I would imagine that the bulk of jurors aren't familiar with the songs before Eurovision week either. So in terms of Eurovision success, I think the impact on first and second listens is 90% of what matters, with the 10% from longevity only really playing a part in terms of pre-contest favourite status, a bit of momentum and the votes from that small section of hardcore fans.

...Though that's all besides the point, I suppose, since I'm not sure any of the acts in our selection is Eurovision-winner material anyway

No, certainly not winner material, but Aus can make a good run at the top 10 with EF and Sheppard :) (not sure about the others, depends on that the other countries pick)

That KMH performance is just terrifying. And the song just sounds like a car crash - completely all over the place and really odd to sit through. Don't get the support for it at all...

Zero Gravity isn’t nearly as wacky or as messy a song as people make it out to be, but whatever. In much the same way as Toy, it still sounds very mainstream, just a fresh and original take. I think it’s more or less Kate’s operatics and the vocal range she is delivering- from the soothing to the out-of-this-world that divides people. Like it or not, it’s hard to deny that that theatrical element is what sets it apart and is why it totally ought to win this selection. How anyone can not like something so delightful, innovative and ultimately uplifting is beyond me.

Sorry but Courtney doesn’t stand a chance. Her vocals aren’t strong enough and the song isn’t strong enough for any jury support. Without that, she’s not a contender. I would also be gagged if Christer ‘destroyed’ Kate, rather I’m expecting more of the opposite if he is using proper jury criteria.

KMH is now leading the odds apparently. so much for "losing to even courtney" lol...x

really, australia can pick any of the three contenders and be absolutely fine. i'd say all theee have very similar eurovision potential.

I just watched Electric Fields performance and it was so fabulously charming. A delight to watch. I love how Zaachariaha owns that stage. A true performer. It's going to be a shame if their song doesn't win.

Electric Fields' performance is delightful, and the idea that that performance is taking them down in the odds is unfortunate.

Their performance didn't take them down. They actually held steady. It was more Kate's performance elevating her. Sheppard were the real losers in the odds.

I believe that might be largely down to the snippet which undersold their performance, because that's when their odds dropped (and KMH's rose). The actual performance wasn't bad and shouldn't have influenced their odds negatively. Weird. It smells like a last-minute panic reaction tbh.
