Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I've heard Sheppard. I like the song, but it suffers from that infantile disease of known as Musical Conformity. It's way too safe to become a diehard fave of mine ( a trait it shares with "Beautiful Mess" and "You let me walk alone"). Whoever compared with an Internal Selection song, I agree and I would be disappointed if "On My Way" were to win Australia Decides.

Sheppard's song is pretty good. I've listened to it all day but it didn't wow me like 2000 And Whatever and Zero Gravity.
Right now Electric Fields is my top pick for Australia. Modern and edgy with an attitude. If they win, I'll get behind it like there's no tomorrow. Kate is my second choice and Sheppard is my third pick, though. Please don't choose Mark Vincent or Courtney, Australia! Be daring and creative this time!

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Sheppard are exactly what Australia have been doing since 2015 but just wearing an indie-pop disguise this time. Potentially bottom of my 2019 ranking with a song like theirs. Pretty much everything I hate about anthemic mainstream indie music. So one-track, yawnful and oh-oh-oh. Send this song and I will officially dub you Beigealia. I find it hard to live with Australia and the really safe, uninspired stuff at this point. Some decent, very good choices in your NF and if it ends with a victory for Sheppard (which it will do, I'm 90% sure because of fan power), then this whole thing is going to be a waste, at least if you considered it an exercise in adding some much needed spice to your Eurovision history.

What is the demography watching ESC in Australia ? I fear that the public will support the more generic Courtney Act due to being celebrity and "gay icon" rather than something more interesting like Electric Fields for instance... it would be a loss now that there is a chance that Australia might send something that isn't uber generic for a change...

I don't think there is a single chance Courtney Act wins.

Well, it depends on the influence of public vote and if those voters make up of a being majority gays (don't get me wrong, I am gay myself and not saying that all gays are shallow like this but unfortunately there is this influential part of the community that also tend to be ESC fans that are and will support the celebrity drag queen with the cliché entry rather than what's more interesting because it "represents the community" and is "what Eurovision should be"...)

I agree with you totally and I think this demographic will vote for her even if the performance is subpar so I really hope they don't succeed!

Isn't there going to be international juries in this NF? Surely they can keep Courtney from winning.

I've been looking at the comments from OGAE Australia members, which are pretty much the demographic you're talking about - majority-gay, lots of drag queen fans etc. Again, nothing wrong with that, but it's the kind of audience you'd think might support Courtney. Thing is, they don't really seem to at the moment - she's towards the bottom end of most people's rankings, with Electric Fields being the default choice of upbeat pop fans (with Sheppard maybe close nearby).

I think the bigger threat with regard to Courtney would come from the more casual voter, who only really hears about Eurovision through the media spin of "it's not about good music; it's all about glamour and being quirky." That misunderstanding could perhaps drive a casual audience to vote for her. But still, on the balance of things, I think she's one of the less likely winners here (compared to Sheppard, Electric Fields, Kate, Leea, Vincent, Aydan, Alfie...)

I can't find any indication that they're international juries specifically, but yes, juries are going to make up 50% of the total vote. And I can't much imagine them giving their top spot to Courtney either way. I feel like they'd go for Sheppard instead, which in and of itself is a little concerning to me... but yeah, probably not Courtney.

AD will have professional international Juries, so Courtney wont win anyway.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

By the way, here's the official upload of Sheppard's entry, for those who didn't bother poking around for the leaked version yesterday:

Still 20 seconds too long, though, so no idea what they're going to cut.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

you k ow courtney act is a real life man, right? you don't need to choose.

Thing is tho, he/she isn't hyped, while that band is, so I prefer the former only for that. We all know that there are better acts in this NF anyway ;)

This actually goes a long way towards answering my biggest question about Gianluca: for all his all, at least he’s not a terf!

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

So I listened to Sheppard now and...yeah it is a good song. Just a little repetive I can feel...but other than that it is good. Not great...absolutely not bad...just good. It might grow on me in a Eurovision season, but I don't think it will be among my top 5 or 10.

So yeah when hearing all the songs, I think I might go with being team Electric Fields, it is really something special in that song. But as many of you say...I see Sheppard win too...or as many of you don't say...Courtney Act. That song is dangerously stuck in my head when I hear it...
