Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

THIS is just glorious. Certainly the best to come from Australian selection this year.

Do people just not like this type of music anymore? I dont understand what people want from a. song these days. Great melody, great production.

Its the same with UK selection. Bigger than Us is a great anthemic song that is just being ripped apart.

They’re just boring. That’s all it is. You’re right - the production is certainly there, and the chorus is by no means bad, but anthemic =/= interesting. It is possible for a song to be anthemic and high energy - see Sheppard’s entry - but the problem facing both Tania Doko and “Bigger Than Us” is that a lot of the audience loses interest rather quickly.

Still have to figure out if I like Sheppard or not. I like it, but am not sure if I grow tired of it soon. For now, thumbs up.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

Have managed to listen to all audio versions from this NF and available snippet of Tania Doko – "Piece of Me".

Not such a great lineup tbh..

Electric Fields - "2000 and Whatever", Leea Nanos – "Set Me Free" and Tania Doko – "Piece of Me" seems as the best proposals to me...

2000 and Whatever is finally starting to click with me. I hope they actually have a chance to win this.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I love the Electric Fields song. Like, "2000 and whatever" is jibberish rubbish, but instead of masking it with some modern, "polished"- sounding tune in an insidious attempt to lure in jury votes (looking at *you*, Shitpard xslap), Electric Fields embrace their trashiness and yank it up to eleven. It's pure, unpretentious, unbridled fun. It has to win, because Fun Australia is NOT gonna live forever. #HAPPY2000andWhatever.

It seems ESC fans don't want anything radio friendly which means anything that wins ESC is almost guaranteed to fail commercially / in the charts.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

All contestants are out. And I am all for 2000 and Whatever. I'd love to see and hear Electric Fields in TLV, this entry caught my attention from the very first start. I am curious to see how they go live. But I am quite sure they will stay my number one. Because in my book they dont have much competition for my number one Australian spot this year.
I'd love to see Australia go for this and not the safe and choices.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

It 's becoming increasingly apparent that the reason why the NF is being hosted on the Gold Coast is because they probably paid for the right to host it in exchange for tourism promo. There's more tourism promo on the SBS Eurovision Facebook page than actual Eurovision content.

Zero Gravity is so captivating! I do not know very well what I think of this song, the parts of the music that I love and others that do not ...

But I think it's my favorite, and it can do very well in my Raking :D ... I also really like Mark Vincent and Sheppard xheart

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I had neglected this section a little , now I have taken time and listened to the songs. So here is my list!

1. Mark Vincent - This Is Not The End
2. Sheppard - On My Way
3. Alfie Arcuri - To Myself
4. Ella Hooper - Data Dust
5. Leea Nanos - Set Me Free
6. Tania Doko - Piece Of Me
7. Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity
8. Electric Fields - 2000 And Whatever
9. Aydan - Dust
10. Courtney Act - Fight For Love

A pretty good selection, I would say. Mark, even though such a song might have been heard a few times before, touches me with his song. Wonderful vocals.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2019

I've just listened to the songs and I so love how good this selection is - probably the best I've been following recently (: Here my ratings:

Tania Doko - "Piece of Me": This sounds like a typical radio hit and I think she can lift it with her live vocal but all in all this is just too bland for Eurovision. I think it would get lost in the running order and would maybe get the same result Jessica got last year.. it's okay but nothing special.
Alifie Arcuri - "To Myself": OMG this must be the best song I have heard in the selection season thus far (maybe I don't follow enough of them, who knows :D). Amazing vocals, great build up, good looking man... My favourite! So into his voice... it delivers so many emotions and is sexy at the same time. Amazing entry, Australia!
Courtney Act - "Fight for Love": I don't follow the Dragrace-show, neither do I know Courtney Act... so I didn't have anything in mind when I looked at the video. Honestly: Good voice but this song is like Greece 2017 but even worse. I think this would fail at Eurovision... not a fan AT ALL.
Sheppard - "On My Way": On the first listen I found this okay, the second time around I was more convinced. I think this could be lifted live with their abilities but I'm not as excited as I was when I found out that they are going to compete. Still a good song that could do fairly well in the final in May. I think I will love this after five listens :D
Ella Hooper - "Data Dust": WHAT IS THIS? I was smiling the whole time while listening to this entry. It's a bit crazy but also really enjoyable and would certainly be something else than what Australia normally sends. I hope she can deliver this live, otherwise this will really be a mess :D Only thing I don't like: It has its lengths.
Mark Vincent - "This Is Not the End": Okay, a classy entry for Australia? I wouldn't mind but I'm just not a fan of this kind of music. Respectable but not spectacular.
Electric Field - "2000 and Whatever": This is so crazy, ethnic, well produced... it's just all over the place and I absolutely love it for that. I hope this is going to me amazing live 'cause this could really be a contender.
AYDAN - "Dust": This song is good but comparing it to the other entries, it's just too safe. This would fit in perfectly to what Australia has been sending in recent years but I don't think it would be that successful in Eurovision... even though he has impressive vocals, I'll admit that.
Kate Miller-Heidke - "Zero Gravity": You either love or hate this and I'm definitely hating it. I don't like the genre mix, I don't like the chorus, I find her voice annoying. Sorry but this would be my dead last in the rankings in May., even though I know that it will have many fans.
Leea Nanos - "Set Me Free": I like this. This is good dance pop and very modern. In every other selection this would be the clear favourite but you Assies have very strong competition (: Leea has good vocals and I believe in a very strong performance. Well done!

What a selection! In Germany we will only hear the songs on February 22nd but Australia: if we only have two songs with the quality of your selection, then we're going to be alright :D Really strong participants, I believe that a lot of them could do really well in Tel Aviv. Here is my final ranking before the show:

01. Alfie Acuri - "To Myself"
02. Electric field - "2000 and whatever"
03. Sheppard - "On My Way"
04. Ella Hooper - "Data Dust"
05. Leea Nanos - "Set Me Free!
06. Tania Doko - "Piece of Me"
07. Mark Vincent - "This Is Not the End"
08. AYDAN - "Dust"
09. Courtney Act - "Fight for Love"
10. Kate Miller-Heidke - "Zero Gravity"

I just love "To Myself" so much - it's the song I'm going to listen to after finishing this post :D But Electric Field are also really good... basically everything in my Top5 could do well at Eurovision and would certainly be in my Top10 throughout the season.

Good luck, Australia, you can look forward to an amazing preselection xlove
