Re: AUSTRALIA 2019
I've just listened to the songs and I so love how good this selection is - probably the best I've been following recently (: Here my ratings:
Tania Doko - "Piece of Me": This sounds like a typical radio hit and I think she can lift it with her live vocal but all in all this is just too bland for Eurovision. I think it would get lost in the running order and would maybe get the same result Jessica got last year.. it's okay but nothing special.
Alifie Arcuri - "To Myself": OMG this must be the best song I have heard in the selection season thus far (maybe I don't follow enough of them, who knows
). Amazing vocals, great build up, good looking man... My favourite! So into his voice... it delivers so many emotions and is sexy at the same time. Amazing entry, Australia!
Courtney Act - "Fight for Love": I don't follow the Dragrace-show, neither do I know Courtney Act... so I didn't have anything in mind when I looked at the video. Honestly: Good voice but this song is like Greece 2017 but even worse. I think this would fail at Eurovision... not a fan AT ALL.
Sheppard - "On My Way": On the first listen I found this okay, the second time around I was more convinced. I think this could be lifted live with their abilities but I'm not as excited as I was when I found out that they are going to compete. Still a good song that could do fairly well in the final in May. I think I will love this after five listens
Ella Hooper - "Data Dust": WHAT IS THIS? I was smiling the whole time while listening to this entry. It's a bit crazy but also really enjoyable and would certainly be something else than what Australia normally sends. I hope she can deliver this live, otherwise this will really be a mess
Only thing I don't like: It has its lengths.
Mark Vincent - "This Is Not the End": Okay, a classy entry for Australia? I wouldn't mind but I'm just not a fan of this kind of music. Respectable but not spectacular.
Electric Field - "2000 and Whatever": This is so crazy, ethnic, well produced... it's just all over the place and I absolutely love it for that. I hope this is going to me amazing live 'cause this could really be a contender.
AYDAN - "Dust": This song is good but comparing it to the other entries, it's just too safe. This would fit in perfectly to what Australia has been sending in recent years but I don't think it would be that successful in Eurovision... even though he has impressive vocals, I'll admit that.
Kate Miller-Heidke - "Zero Gravity": You either love or hate this and I'm definitely hating it. I don't like the genre mix, I don't like the chorus, I find her voice annoying. Sorry but this would be my dead last in the rankings in May., even though I know that it will have many fans.
Leea Nanos - "Set Me Free": I like this. This is good dance pop and very modern. In every other selection this would be the clear favourite but you Assies have very strong competition (: Leea has good vocals and I believe in a very strong performance. Well done!
What a selection! In Germany we will only hear the songs on February 22nd but Australia: if we only have two songs with the quality of your selection, then we're going to be alright
Really strong participants, I believe that a lot of them could do really well in Tel Aviv. Here is my final ranking before the show:
01. Alfie Acuri - "To Myself"
02. Electric field - "2000 and whatever"
03. Sheppard - "On My Way"
04. Ella Hooper - "Data Dust"
05. Leea Nanos - "Set Me Free!
06. Tania Doko - "Piece of Me"
07. Mark Vincent - "This Is Not the End"
08. AYDAN - "Dust"
09. Courtney Act - "Fight for Love"
10. Kate Miller-Heidke - "Zero Gravity"
I just love "To Myself" so much - it's the song I'm going to listen to after finishing this post
But Electric Field are also really good... basically everything in my Top5 could do well at Eurovision and would certainly be in my Top10 throughout the season.
Good luck, Australia, you can look forward to an amazing preselection
