Yeah, I don't think this is great either. Honestly on the forgettable side. I don't know if there will be any rabid anti-Australia sentiments with the people at home across Europe, now that they were allowed to come back after their "one-time participation", but it wouldn't surprise me. Either way, this doesn't get me excited in any way, and if it doesn't make it through, I understand completely. On the other hand, Australia is in the weak semi-final (luckily with 19 instead of 18 songs), where this might be among the best ten songs, definitely for a jury.

Honestly when i saw the video i had big expectations about this song, but after listen it 3 times, i realized that this song is good just for Radio-listen xmusic, but as Dami had a good voice + probably :au: SBS will do a good #DamiTeam, i will give her :10: points and she will pass to the final, but i can see Dami finishing around 6-7 place! If she becomes Top 5, i could be surprised !!

I'm a fan you know, so i know what is supposed to happen if Australia wins. What i don't know is the reasons why they're not hosting it (more than just not being in Europe, seems a weak excuse imo)

I do think costs factor into it quite significantly. If you imagine each country participating might be wanting to send 10 people - an average of 5 for the stage, some commentators, composers, delegation etc. - then that already brings the total to 430 people, and if we say that maybe 70 others from the EBU, planning committees, press etc. would be involved, that brings it to 500 people travelling to the other side of the country. For each of those, even travelling economy, a $100 dollar return trip would probably become more like a $1500 return trip - which, multiplied by 500 people, already means $700,000 that nobody will want to pay for. Add onto that the costs of moving around any props that would be wanted, the fact that Australian hotels are notoriously expensive, our crappy public transport, and you've got some more issues. And then, as you've said earlier, we'd need to start early in the morning if we wanted Europe to get the broadcast at the usual time. It might not sound too bad, but it means you've got to be moving around thousands of performers, press and viewers before public transport has even started up for the morning, making the singers perform as early as 5AM (or 1-2AM if you consider rehearsals)... it wouldn't be easy.

It's not impossible, and I'd love to see it happen so that I could go to Eurovision without having to fly over to the other side of the world, but logistically I think all the organisers would rather avoid it.

I think the best option is live sites in the Australian capitals for hosting, something like:

Semi 1
Opening and hosting pre-vote: Brisbane
Votes: Hobart

Semi 2
Opening and hosting pre-vote: Adelaide
Votes: Canberra

Final
Opening: Sydney
Hosting for songs: Darwin
Interval: Melbourne
Votes: Perth

While the actual performing takes place in a country that has never hosted previously, or at least not for a long time - maybe the Netherlands, maybe the Czech Republic, maybe Cyprus?

------------

Above was first thought, kind of amending it a bit now to postcards from around Australia, of immigrants from the performing country integrating that culture with Australia. Have someone from the Finnish community having a sauna in the Blue Mountains or something, a big fat Greek wedding at Fed Square, Swiss yodelling in the Daintree Rainforest... and have the votes presented by the Australian-Europeanss, in Australia, from live sites across the country. While still hosting the actual contest 100% over there. Kind of flip it around so that it still gets plenty of Australian character in it, and embraces the links between us and Europe, while keeping the risk of technical difficulties lower :p

Really dull, and way to similar to several other, equally formulaic entries this year. I don't get what's happened, do they think songs like this actually have a chance of winning now?

I was hoping for a real nice surprise from Down Under. Last year Australia was in my top 10, and they acheived a really good result. That wont happen this year. A good singer, but an uninteresting voice. Together with a very forgettable, generic song. Just the kind of stuff that I dont care about; in the way that I dont hate it, I dont love it - I just dont feel anything...

I really wanted to like this, I thought that having Australia around would make things interesting, they sent a different kind of song last year, but now I can see they're completely assimilated.

It's a well-produced, well-crafted song by a respectable artist, but there's no twists, surprises, nothing that we haven't heard a thousand times already: good in the technical aspects, but just dull and lifeless.

5 points.

Well said!! And in my book I could just copy/paste this into the comments about several entries this year....
