Jamie-Lee with her Korean faible. Dami Im with her Korean background. If we are next getting told how much the Koreans love the ESC I will get suspicious ...

Woah ok, no delta. But we had figured that out anyway. Can't wait for the song, I hope it's not a huge let down like last year was for me. I want to enjoy an Australian entry.

AH KOREAN, maybe korea brodcast eurovision

I don't see why some people are making such a big fuss over Dami's heritage. Yes, she was born in Korea, but she's an Aussie now; she came here in 1997, when she was nine years old. At this point, she's lived twice as long in Australia as she has in Korea... I don't think her identity as an Australian should really be the subject of such scrutiny here. We've had plenty of ESC acts before who weren't born in the countries that they represented - including Guy last year, who moved here from Malaysia when he was seven - and I don't see why this is suddenly supposed to be anything different.

It's because Guy doesn't look 'Asian' while Dami does. Racism at its finest. xshrug

I think the two of you are on the wrong path. This has nothing to do with racism or Guys/Dami's ethnic background. Surely you are aware of the discussions who would be next to join the ESC after Australia's admission. People are just looking for "signs". ;) Maybe you should re-read the postings.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016 - Dami Im

I am personally happy to see some diversity on the stage ...... She is a fine artist and talking about someone's heritage doesn't make a person racist.
I am pleased with Australia this year.
BUT, my feelings are that they don't have a place in Eurovision ........ It's very much the FINANCIAL THIRST of EBU.
The rule was If you win, you can come back ....... They did pretty well, but didn't win ..... AND they are back. I smell some EUROS being thrown EBU's way.

Apologies if I came across as accusing anyone of racism - I was trying to address the issue of those 'signs' specifically, though I suppose I was a little vague. To be more direct, I feel like Dami's Korean heritage shouldn't really be sign of Korea moving towards Eurovision; they'd have had no hand in SBS' decision, firstly, and if we were to assume that Dami's selection hints at a Korean debut, then we could just as easily say that Guy's selection was a sign of Malaysia in Eurovision, or that Loreen's participation hinted at a return from Morocco, or that Tooji's selection was a sign of Iran joining the contest. I get that people want to speculate about new countries joining the contest, but I just don't see any tangible links here to base that speculation on.

SBS... doesn't exactly have a reputation of throwing around money of any kind. The general perception is that they're on a constant shoestring budget, and they're often having to axe shows or cut funding to keep themselves up and running. Somehow I doubt they've got enough money floating around to put together a bribe that'd convince the EBU of anything.

I was talking about the participation fees, even one extra person on the table makes a difference when you split the bill.
It seemed very stupid to make that announcement last year and kinda bite their tongue this year.
I would have been OK with Australia taking part if they didn't force that entire policy last year ........ Now It's seems very hypocritical of the EBU.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016 - Dami Im

if only Korea could participate :D

(but no, EBU don't want a country to win each year)

I hope some up tempo thing in a "Dami Im" way, i always found her songs fine but never great, it always lacks of "magic". The esc song format will maybe force her to give it something special to catch viewers attention and so a great tune.

Amazing choice! She was great on the X Factor and a deserved winner, I just hope her song is good because 'Tonight again' was quite average despite the good result last year.
