Re: ARMENIA 2012

Funny that screaming "SOOO HAPPY THEY ARE OUT" is not "attacking a country" or its people but criticizing Azerbaijan is!?
They as of country or as of broadcaster?

However I already see people saying that Azerbaijan shouldn't be allowed to host xshrug

We don't want to punish the majority for the behavior of the minority by keeping this thread closed. Please refrain from attacking any of the two countries in questions and our members.

The purpose of this forum is to bring us together, not to divide us even further. If you have strong opinions and feelings about the issue please take it to the Political Forum but any blaming & accusations towards a country are against our board rules and you all agreed to them when you registered.

Thank you very much for your understanding!

I'm kinda sad the scenario from 2009 is now repeating itself but what can one do... I would've liked to see :am: strong in Baku, as it's not a very good thing to miss an edition after failing to qualify for the final for the first time.

This was quite expectable... it would have been nice to see Armenia performing in Baku.
But maybe it´s better now, that there won´t be too much discussion about politics during ESC-weeks .

I'm really sad about Armenia's withdrawal myself especially considering the circumstances. But if that's what they want then I understand and I look forward seing them in 2013. Bring back Eva Rivas :D

I wonder what would happen if Turkey won this year. They'd withdraw again? :D

Anyway, will they pay anything for this?

The rules are they won't get their participation fee back and there is supposed to be a withdrawal fee as well though I don't know what the agreement was between EBU and Armenia.

This is sad. They could've made a real positive statement by choosing the participate but I guess not :/ Sad to see there'll be one less song too

Well, the deadline about participation has passed already, the submission deadline for the entries is different. I doubt that EBU is going to ask for an additional withdrawal fee for obvious reasons.

It is indeed sad that Armenia withdrew.

With the help of Google Translate I found this explanation:

Public Television of Armenia, explained the reasons for refusal of participation in "Eurovision-2012".

"Public TV of Armenia since 2006, actively participated in the song contest" Eurovision ", and since 2007 - in the" Junior Eurovision ", annually sending participants from Armenia.

In December 2011 Armenia adopted a "Junior Eurovision" contest was held in an atmosphere of harmony and was highly appreciated by all. This year, in Vienna for the first time Armenia will participate in the classical music competition "Eurovision Young Musicians - 2012." After that the broadcaster intends to continue cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union and the "Eurovision" in particular.

Nevertheless, I regret to announce that the Public Television of Armenia can not send a delegation to the Azerbaijani capital of Baku to take part in "Eurovision-2012". Although the Azerbaijani authorities to provide security guarantees for each participating country, a few days ago the President of Azerbaijan made for one of these countries 'exception', stating that the number one enemy of Azerbaijan are Armenians around the world. In fact, the president of Azerbaijan has announced all the Armenians, including those who were to enter the Armenian delegation to the enemies of Azerbaijan. Consequently, there is no logic to send participants to the country where it will look like the enemy. For us it is a matter of principle.

We believe that the atmosphere that has emerged against the backdrop of these and other anti-Armenian statements can not ensure a level playing field for all participating artists, which, in our view, is one of the main components of the competition. We will continue to participate and later in "Eurovision" and represent Armenia at this pan-European competition, "- said in a statement.

I'm sad to see Armenia not taking part, but considering where the contest will be held this year, it's probably the safest option for them. Who knows what threats or sabotage attempts they would have been subjected to.

It's 2012. Why can't everyone just grow up, get along and move on?! Especially countries in Europe and the EBU. Pathetic!

It looks like this thread is this years flame bait, most can't help posting their opinions in here for good or bad.

Too bad about Armenia withdrawing, never really care for their songs but I didn't dislike their entries either until last year. Oh well let's see how things go next year.

How is it racist and "islamophobic" to not agree with the politics of a country? That's right, it isn't.

You're the one spreading the propaganda, not us.

I'm really happy not to see Armenia in Bakou. They have made so much drama so far, shame on them. They sould be forbidden of eurovision forever.

Wow some people have short memory, they've done less than what has happened in the past... and actually they haven't even done anything special, they just withdrew.
