Armenia: Selection Method By End of January
Armenia – After the to and fro about a possible Armenian participation even continued after the official list of participants was revealed, we know have signs that the Caucasian nation is actually going to participate in Baku. The Armenian selection process is in preparation. Armenia’s head of delegation Gohar Gasparian, told the newspaper Novosti Armenia, that the country’s selection method would be revealed by the end of January. She also said that the Armenian entry will only be chosen by the middle of March, which would make Armenia the last country to reveal their entry.

YEREVAN. - It is not clear yet who will represent Armenia during Eurovision Song Contest 2012 which will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 22-26. It is also not clear how the performer is to be elected. But the public already discusses the possible candidates on the social websites. Armenian rock band Dorians is mentioned most. The general producer of the band Vahagn Grigoryan agreed to give an interview to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
What do you think about Armenia’s participation in Eurovision 2012?
I think the most important thing is the security of the Armenian delegation. If security is provided I think it will be right to participate. I hope we are a country that will not leave its citizen to the mercy of fate.
The Armenian delegation of the Eurovision Song Contest is top secret. It is not clear when and how the participant will be elected. What do you think how is the participant going to be elected? If a competition is announced will Dorians participate?
I think the Public Television will choose the participant. If I can be sure that there has not been made a choice previously we shall participate, if not then we won’t.

No there have not been any discussions. It is quite normal that Dorians is named. I can’t tell how big the possibility is that the Public TV will choose Dorians. We have never suffered from the Eurovision participation disease but after Azerbaijan’s victory we have announced that we are ready to represent Armenia in Azerbaijan if security is provided. We understand the whole responsibility and we would like to perform in our format if we are wanted to be seen in Baku.
There is a song text posted on your Facebook page and it is said you would like that song to be performed.
We chose the song when we were discussing the possibility of participating in Eurovision. The song was written right after Azerbaijan’s victory last year. Because of the Eurovision code according to which the song must not be performed until October 1, we first performed that song on October 28.
According to you which one was Armenia’s best performance in Eurovision?
I can’t tell the best performance, I didn’t like any of the songs. Sirusho brought the best result and the major factor was not her performance but the PR campaign before her performance. I think it is important to present a good song. It must be a song understandable not only for the Armenian Diaspora but also for whole Europe. One should not run after the first place but present a song that will be performed on European radio stations later.
Whom do you see as candidates who will represent Armenia well?
We have many young artists who are not that famous but are very talented. I believe they will never give up and sing during weddings in order to earn money. For example Nane Dovlatyan, Reincarnation, Bambir, Empyray, there are many who can represent Armenia well. Besides that I don’t consider it right to send the same person for the second time. That means that there is no alternative and I don’t agree with that.
To note, Armenia will participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2012, which will take place in Baku on May 22-26 2012.
