Please let us have Australia, Canada & New Zealand too

That's only because you know they will all probably vote for us. Commonwealth + Ireland block.

Haha that's a bonus :D

But I just think it'd be really cool having them onboard... after all, NZ will have been the only one not to have been in any Eurovision event by next year, and they're broadcasting this year

Let's see how many countries either
a) have participated
b) are eligible to participate
c) have attempted to participate

tl;dr,

Highest possible number of participating nations: 66
WITHOUT an Israeli OR Kosovan participation: 64
WITH an Israeli participation: 58
WITH a Kosovan participation: 46
WITH an Israeli AND Kosovan participation: 42

Highest possible number of participants is 46 as stated in Eurovision's rule book. If more that that wanted to participate they would have to do a new relegation system.

Besides the right person suggesting it, there isn't really a major hurdle blocking Jordanian participation.

Unless we get a sudden mass debut from North Africa and the Middle East I cannot see us reaching 46 countries either.

As the Czech saying goes, hope never dies:

Time.com: Meet the Man Who Claims He Just Founded a New Country in Europe

"Vit Jedlicka, a member of the conservative Party of Free Citizens in the Czech Republic, is the self-appointed president of Liberland, which he says sits on unclaimed terra nullius territory wedged between Serbia and Croatia. The 3 sq. mi. “country,” where taxes are optional and a military is nonexistent, does not “interfere with the territory” of the two states, according to Liberland’s website."

This day will never come.

It's not that hard, we've already have 43 in 2011 and 2008. It really isn't hard to happen. It won't happen in the next few years, but it surely will happen eventually.
You just need the current participants, plus the recent withdrawn Ukraine, Turkey, Bosnia, Croatia and Slovakia, to make 44 again (not counting Australia). Then we just need two more to return, for example Luxembourg and Andorra, and then we'd have 46. Not to mention Monaco and Morroco, other potential returnees (and Morroco has shown more interest lately not only from the main broadcaster SNRT but also another another broadcaster, 2MTV that is applying to enter the EBU with Eurovision in their mind). We also have 3 possible debutants, Liechtenstein, Kazhakstan and Lebanon. With all these we have 51 potential participants.

It seems that the scenario of a guest country every year is close.
Event Supervisor Sietse Bakker of the EBU said yesterday:

“The Eurovision Song Contest has been able to grow because of the interest from a growing number of countries. We had one semi-final in 2004, another one added in 2008. And of course if we see more interest from countries like Canada and China, at some point we have to consider what we need to do with that interest. But for now, that is a question for the long term future. In countries like Australia, China, Canada and South-Africa, people look at this contest as an amazing oppurtunity for artists and and as a lot of fun to watch. They really admire Europe for having build such a tradition, and if they are interested in our European tradition I think we should be inclusive and in some way involve them with the Eurovision Song Contest.

I don't believe the number of countries will go beyond 43 in next decade. For me it's like:

more countries -> more non-qualifiers -> more sadness and disappointment -> withradawals

it cannot grow constantly, there will always be withdrawals

But there are some countries that whatever the result is, they will always be there :D
