Really interesting about about some countries being against homosexuality and such and thanks to Marcos link, I decdied to look on what year same-sex sexual activity became legal in a number of countries. I took in random order Turkey, Sweden, Bulgaria, Russia, Croatia, Spain, Belgium, United Kingdom, Austria, Malta. Took these countries to show very different sides of europe as possible.
Here is the full list in the order of most recent to the ones that were first to make it legal. Highlighted some interesting ones on the matter of the discussion...
Russia Decriminalised in 1917; Re-criminalised in 1933; Legal since 1993
UK 1967 (England and Wales) 1981 (Scotland) 1982 (Northern Ireland)
Spain Legal since 1979
Croatia Legal since 1977
Malta Legal since 1973
Austria Legal since 1971
Bulgaria Legal since 1968
Sweden Legal since 1944
Turkey Legal since 1858
Belgium Legal since 1795
Of course it is never simple in any country to be homosexual, not even here in Sweden, but saying that two countries that were before quite many of the western countries when it becomes to this, one, Turkey it is, that is even over 100 years before United Kingdom and Spain must show that the "hate" on homosexuals is not really as the western media tries to show.
So to end this discussion, back to the topic. I would love to have up to 47 countries next year, I would definitely love seeing Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey and many smaller countries to come back! The only thing that could unite Europe is Eurovision to be honest, let's stop hating each other and bring out the love and let's hope for a grand Eurovision in may 2016!
