Re: ???????? - Armenia 2010 - Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

Song two – Armenia

Armenia is represented by Eva Rivas. She sings about Apricot stone, that is a reference to the Armenian national fruit. The stage is coloured in shades of apricot and we also get a big apricot stone prop in the middle of the stage. Some lengths of fabric hang at the back of the stage. A flutist is on the left sitting on a rock playing duduk and there are three backing singers on the right, at first involved in getting water from a well and symbolically watering the stone, before taking their positions behind Eva. A male dancer is doing some routines on the stage. Eventually a tree grows out of the stone.

Eva has a very long dark hair and sings this ode to her motherland with passion, backed by ethnic sounds and rhythms and professional backing singers. The stage clothes will be in apricot colours too.

So after Lithuania shook the cobwebs out of our system, we have two of the Top 5 favourites with the bookmalkers and on the prediction table coming back to back.

ARMENIA

Eva Rivas is in a purple shellsuit which obviously won't be her show dress (which is an apricot colour), but otherwise this was exactly what I hoped it could be. Very ethnic staging framed by drapes and some lovely camerawork for the warm stage. Eva sings well but overdoes it at times and is just a bit too forceful. The backing singers add a real depth to the sound and there is no question, this is instantly appealing and sailing into the final.

Eva Rivas's press conference in Oslo: We are very glad with the first rehearsal

« We are very glad with the first rehearsal », - Eva Rivas declared during press conference . « All has passed much better, than we expected. You know, always there is a fear of the new place, a new stage, but all has passed successfully ».

Really, the show looks effectively enough and brightly though still there are some elements which should be finished and that will be made during following rehearsal », - has added the representative of Armenia at Eurovision 2010 ».

On the question of journalists on absence during rehearsal of world famous Armenian musician Jiivan Gasparyan, the head of of the Armenian delegation Diana Mnatsakanyan answered: « At present Gasparyan is on tour, but he'll join us during costume rehearsal ».

In the end of performance on a stage an apricot tree will grow from a big stone. Journalists at press conference interested the history of the song « Apricot stone » and some details of the biography of Eva also. In particular on a question of one journalist « And how long have you grown your smart hair? » - Eva has answered laconically - "very long".

Eurovision: Apricot Stone composer says Armenia as close to win as ever

Less than a week remains till the start of the 55th Eurovision, and the Armenian team is already in Oslo, Norway, the venue of this year’s popular pan-European song contest. The first semifinal in the Norwegian capital is scheduled for May 25, followed by the second semifinal featuring the Armenia entry on May 27 and the grand finale on May 29.

Armenia representative Eva Rivas will present the song Apricot Stone, currently a leader on internet charts and an increasingly popular tune among listeners in and outside Armenia.

The song’s composer Armen Martirosyan, a well-known jazzman and conductor of the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia, has shared with ArmeniaNow his impressions about the Armenian performer and expectations from the upcoming contest.

“Purely theoretically, Armenia has never been so close to victory as it is now,” says Martirosyan. “Her chances are quite high. The guarantee of success is in the ability to present the highly artistic work. As a professional musician, I find that the song is well ahead of all others both in terms of its contents and quality of material.”

The composer himself will join Team Armenia in Oslo on May 26 to take part in the final rehearsal and make his last-minute remarks.

Martirosyan speaks warmly about the performer of the song. He calls Eva Rivas a modest beauty who is very easy to work with.

“Working with her is as easy as pie. You can yell at her, scold her. She’s got no arrogant attitudes, at the same time she has an extraordinary will for victory. Perhaps it all comes down to her genes. That she has Russian and Greek blood in her in addition to Armenian only supports my idea that our people has long been in need of a little bit of mixed blood,” Martirosyan says.

Martirosyan says Armenia has already scored her first victory – beating stereotypes. For it is the first time that a Diaspora person, 22-year-old Rivas from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, will represent Armenia at Eurovision.

The author of the lyrics, Karen Kavaleryan, is also an Armenian from Russia, who has translated into the song the history of his life and nostalgia that an apricot pit symbolizes.

Next to Rivas on stage as backing vocal will perform Mariam Mehrabova, a promising Russian jazz vocalists, as well as Gor Sujyan (soloist of one of the best modern rock bands in Armenia – Dorians) and Tigran Petrosyan (a well-known Armenian singer).

“We are sending the strongest vocalists, because the idea of the song is to get an ‘anthem’ sound. The song is about the Diaspora, about getting back to the roots. One person cannot express all the emotions,” says Martirosyan.

Nevertheless, one of the surprises embraced by all Armenians will be the presence of Jivan Gasparyan, a world-famed master of the Armenian duduk, who will perform along with the Armenian team. A dancer invited from Russia will be the sixth participant (according to the Eurovision rules, the number of performers on the stage is limited to six).

“We’ve met a lot of obstacles on the way to Eurovision that were mainly of the same nature – we are a small country with a small budget and limited possibilities. But now we have all become one and this keeps us going,” says Martirosyan.

The composer believes that the song will conquer the hearts of non-Armenian listeners as well and says that this is the main mission of the song that will be broadcast live to audiences in more than 50 countries.

“I am sure that if someone not familiar either with our culture or history sees this beautiful girl singing this tune and gets what she sings about at least by 20 percent, he will become ‘our man’. We should give this person a thrill and let him listen through – this is our chance.”

Re: ???????? - Armenia 2010 - Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

Eva Rivas, who is nominated as the most beautiful woman in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, may well be the winner of this year's competition taking it to Armenia for 2011. Here is why.

Describing her first rehearsal in Oslo OIKOTIMES' writer Lilian Brunell writes how she was impress by the song Apricot Stone that Rivas will sing presenting Armenia. Brunell writes referring to Apricot Stone: "it’s a song that goes immediately into my hearth and it feels so genuine! I think this entry will apply to the TV-viewers. An apricot will of course be on the stage." Then she continues that "Eva has already been appointed as the most beautiful woman in ESC 2010 and she definitely has the tallest hair of the contest."

Considering that Eva Rivas has been leading in charts, she may have a great shot at becoming the 2010 Eurovision winner.

We reported earlier that there will a little magic on the state and that an apricot stone (bit) will become a tree. On May 27 she will have her first performance.

After Eva's rehearsal the director of the Armenian delegation Diana Mntatsakanyan said that she was very pleased by Rivas' performance. Eva said her song is about a love of motherland and not only about love to Armenia, but rather a love toward a motherland for any person in the world.

Eva had a very interesting promotion tour leading to the Eurovision 2010 contest. She traveled in many European countries and wherever she went she planted an Apricot tree as a reminder for her song and a symbol of Armenia. Apricot has a national symbolic meaning in Armenia.

Today reports surfaced in the Armenian media that a famous duduk player Jivan Gasparian will play the duduk part during Eva's performance. Gasparian's performance has been featured in such Holliwood movies like Gladiator and Seige. Has been nominated for Grammy and has raise a generation of Duduk players like Pedro Eustache, who is one of the lead musicians working with Yanni.

By the way, speaking of Yanni. Eva Rivas is half Greek. Some observers say her beautiful song may earn her the support of Greek voters as well.

Apricot stone, waterfall and apricot tree in Eurovision stage

“Eurovision-2010” international song contest rehearsals got under way, and Armenian representative Eva Rivas had her first rehearsal on the stage.

During the performance a real apricot stone appeared on the stage, an artificial waterfall is a part of the performance. A ballet dancer waters the stone from the waterfall which symbolizes life. The stone opens and an apricot tree grows.

Famous duduk player Jivan Gasparyan accompanies Eva Rivas to the stage. He plays his duduk sitting on a stone. Tigran Petrosyan, Gor Sujyan and Mariam Mehrabova (back vocal) are on the stage.

E. Rivas didn’t wear her dress but showed it to the cameras – a long dress of apricot color.

“Eurovision-2010” song contest will take place on May 25-29 in Oslo. 39 countries attend the contest. Armenian representative will perform on the second semi-final the 27th.

Ah ok I was a bit skeptical of the apricot stone prop they has on stage and I was even thinking that it should definitely become a tree or something and now that I see it does I'm quite pleased! :D
