Kyu Sakamoto - Ashita ga Arusa (There's Always Tomorrow)
Last edition, we sent a Japanese classic from distant 1963. Kyu Sakamoto was a fresh-faced young singer from the 60s who brought Japanese music to the international scene with his later hit 'Ue o muite arukou', known in English as 'Sukiyaki'. His popularity grew in Japan as a beloved celebrity in the 70s and 80s, but was tragically cut short in an unexpected way.
Kyu was on board the infamous
Japan Airlines Flight 123 crash of 1985, which is still one of the deadliest air crashes to date. In light of this, his upbeat homage to procrastination suddenly takes a rather different note... (but don't worry, zombie Sakamoto was still able to make it to Calypso to perform in the semifinals!)
