Re: YAPONESIA: NSC 106 [百年] ~ ready to go...

Republica!! I loved their debut album. They actually had a few hits in the UK - the biggest were Ready To Go and Drop Dead Gorgeous, but there were far better songs on their album. Will need to try and dig that out someday!

Re: YAPONESIA: 120 Years of Yaponesia ~ ↑Ƌ8

UPDATE

So as you can all see, this thread hasn't been touched since NSC 106 ;_;
But since Yaponesia is celebrating 120 entries in NSC 128, clearly I should give it some renewed recognition.
So over the course of this confirmation period I'll update with three missing entries every day, so that we can get back up to date!
I'll also update with some history factoids about the "real-life" (read: NSC roleplay) Yaponesia, which I started writing recently. In fact, here's chapter 1 right here:

A History of Yaponesia
Chapter 1
'Ready to Go'

Island tribes from the south (Yaponjins) and the east (Orientals) were the first to populate the eastern territory of the continent now known as Chiara, and over years of eventual peaceful co-operation between the tribes, followed by influence from developing nation states in the north, the nation of Yaponesia was founded as the first established nation on the eastern mini-continent of Chiara towards the end of the year of NSC 5. The state consisted of the entire eastern half of the mainland plus the island groups surrounding it. By the year of NSC 6, Yaponesia had joined the quickly-growing Nation Broadcasting Union (NBU), and participated for the first time in the semifinal of the 6th Nation Song Contest. In response to this establishment of territory, the local mainland native (and ethnically distinct) Calypsians and Cominians drew up their own borders on the western side of the continent a year later.

Political turmoil first struck Yaponesia in NSC 9 following the exile of corrupted emperor Sarusan I to the southern archipelago (he was, in fact, a monkey and not a human being). In the following year of NSC 10, a rebel group of ninjas calling themselves Halitosians, from a group of islands in Yaponesia's southern archipelago, revolted and declared independence from the Yaponesian state. This was the first year Yaponesia withdrew from international events (such as the NSC) due to the political climate. Yaponesia took this time to re-assess its governance in the hopes of being treated as a serious country in the world of Natia.

Stay tuned for Chapter 2 tomorrow, and some entry updates coming up shortly xcheer1

NSC 107

Nation Summary Compilation - Yaponesia
So to start with, I'll get this one out the way :p
I already explained this one at the time; it's a 100th anniversary composition, containing musical motifs from most of the 100 Yaponesian entries in order. At the time it wasn't ready in time for the semis to begin, so I released it in small batches, and it wasn't quite complete until the day of the deadline...

What's worth adding now is that I've had mixed feelings about this piece ever since, and it was actually one of the main obstacles in me updating this thread. The whole thing was just a mess really. So I deleted the overcomplicated version with lyrics, and ideally would've shortened it or made a video for it or something. But as it is now, it's the extra-long medley composition it was always meant to be. I guess I'm proud of it, but it was never quiiiite appropriate for the contest in the first place. Works as an anthem or something though :lol:

EGO-WRAPPIN' - Brand New Day
So the video's a bit dodgy in terms of political correctness, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt...
This was Yaponesia's 101st entry! Yay, new era and all that jazz so therefore, we have a thematically appropriate song; it's a brand new day!

EGO-WRAPPIN' are described as a jazz band on Wikipedia. They're from Osaka, Japan and 'Brand New Day' was released in 2010. The song's main lyric 'Brand new day, waratte' means 'Brand new day, laugh' and it's about forgetting your past and embracing the future (predictably).

NSC 109

Dzidzio - Meni Povezlo (I'm Lucky)
As you probably recall, I spent most of 2014 living in Odessa, Ukraine (hence several other Odessa-themed entries which we will get to). NSC 109 was around Eurovision time if I remember correctly, so a happy cheesy easily-imaginable-on-stage Ukrainian song felt like a good idea!

Dzidzio is a group from Novoiavorivsk, Ukraine and is fronted by Mikhaylo Khoma. The song is in Ukrainian not Russian so I don't understand it. :(
Anyway, those are my three retroactive updates for today; feel free to comment tbh. Three more coming tomorrow xcheer

A History of Yaponesia
Chapter 2
'Travel the World'

Stability was restored to Yaponesia in NSC 11 with the appointment of a new formerly-established emperor Wam Pire, whose stated aim was to expand the Yaponesian empire eastwards, as well to introduce a democratic vote in Yaponesian political affairs (such as the selection of the song for the NSC). It was during this time that Yaponesia took the lead in establishing the cartography of Natia, by sailing eastwards and attempting to colonise the small islands and microstates they discovered. However, as war gripped the entire Natian world during this period around NSC 15, followed by the ensuing worldwide 'Originality Crisis' which crippled international relations, many of these discovered microstate tribes were quick to assert their status as independent nations irrelevant to the Yaponesian conquest, and in turn, went about conquering and colonising other territories in wartorn Natia.

The final microstate uprising at the end of the year of NSC 17 brought about the end to Yaponesia's attempted conquests. A Yaponesian protest anthem of silence was put forward but ultimately dismissed by international authorities, and "in protest" (actually I just misread a deadline) the nation failed to represent itself properly to the international committee (the NBU) at the end of the year, although sanctions were withheld due to the sudden changes affecting Natian politics worldwide in NSC 18. This period had begun well for Yaponesia, as they became an active member of the NBU, in addition to celebrating their tenth anniversary, but Yaponesia and the rest of Natia itself was hopeful to repair damage caused by the war and the uprising with new worldwide treaties beginning in NSC 18.

Re: YAPONESIA: NSC 110

NSC 110

sakanaction - Aoi (Blue)
Annoyingly, the cool dailymotion live performance I sent to the edition has been deleted :( But this video was the first place I saw this song anyway, so no harm in posting that instead. I sent this song for two reasons. The first, if you cast your mind back, was because the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was about to start, so a song supporting the Japan team would be cool (although not effective). The connection being of course that Japan play in blue (hence the songtitle...)

The second reason was to give sakanaction a second chance in NSC. One of Yaponesia's most forgotten entries, Hokkaido band sakanaction previously represented Yaponesia in NSC 85 with 'Sen to Rei'. Like muhu before them (NSC 75 and 97), and Daishi Dance after them (NSC 95 and 123), I've made it a yearly tradition to give one old forgotten Yapo artist a second chance, so far all with improved results! 'Aoi' was released in 2013, and doesn't actually have a purposeful connection to the Japan team, but the song is about some 'blue' energy that makes you dance so I guess it promotes a similar kind of sporty footwork?

Igor Kornelyuk - Gimn Volanda (Woland's Hymn)
This entry was inspired by my university studies (wow much fun), specifically the Russian literature side (which I ended up hating in the end but eh). 'Woland's hymn' is part of the soundtrack to the 2005 Russian miniseries adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's 'Master and Margarita', directed by Vladimir Bortko. Woland is the main antagonist of the story, an incarnation of the devil himself, and this theme is used a motif within the film whenever he starts becoming... devilish.

The lyrics of the song are Latin, and cycle between the words featured on a Sator square (a Latin palindrome meaning 'The creator controls the wheel of life'):
S A T O R
A R E P O
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S
And 'Igne Natura Renovatur Integra' ('Through fire, nature is reborn'), also abbreviated throughout the chorus 'INRI INRI' along with 'abracadabra' (whose meaning I'm sure we all know). The overall theme is of course magic and mysteriousness and all that good stuff. There was even thought to have been a curse associated with the miniseries itself which was inflicted upon the actors involved (read the Trivia section of the wikipage above)!

NSC 112

;_;

TEMPORARY WITHDRAWAL
So if there really was a curse associated with our 111 entry, maybe it affected Yaponesia here. ;_;
Despite a rare prequalification, I made the unfortunate error in this edition of failing to confirm on time, mostly due to my usual last-minuteness which was this time made worse by being on holiday in a different timezone where Youtube was blocked. Oh noes!

For anyone's random interest, the songs I was considering for that edition were from Kazakhstan (where I'd just been on holiday, although I was in China when the confirmation fail happened), and I was torn up until the last minute between the songs below. Because Paper & INK hosted again a year later, I decided to resend Project Zenit to Sven, so that'll get its own post later!

OR

(also lol that a Kazakh song went on to win this edition anyway xlove )

Stay tuned for three more updates tomorrow xcheer1
