Unfortunatelly my mom has not listened to any songs yet, so my "victim" for this year was my younger brother, who made some hillarious comments indeed

From the frst semi he liked :hr: and :me: the most  (and i am surprised cause he usually dislikes this type of music).

Other songs he thinks will do well are:ru: :am: and :nl:

EDIT for Ritararita he thikns :cz: is a definite qualifier ;)

From the second semi he liked :ge: and :bg: :?

From the big 5 he surprisingly did not like :fr: at all, and he told me that if this is considered a favorite, then the quality of the songs is damn low this year.

For :es: he said that screams bottom 5 and his most fave is :de: followed closely by :it: :D

Overall, his fave song for this year is :hr:

Updated

My mum watched both semifinals and gave me her favorites :D

From the 1st semi she only liked :hr:

From the 2nd semi her most fave song was :al: (wtf?) and :ua: :D

My mum watched part of the first semifinal without paying so much attention. She only said "WTF is this" when Cyprus was performing.

She was way more interested trying to guess the countries with the postcards. She loved Prague and Vienna

PS- My dad said San Marino shouldn't dare to participate to send such a song...

My mum didn't want to watch the second semi, but strangely she ended up watching most of the performances, so here are her impressions:

:pl: "He should fix an appointment with my hairdresser" (sadly, no comment in the musical department )
:ch: "She's cute, that song tho..."
:mk: "Was that cleavage necessary?" (second non-musical comment )
:au: "What are they doing here? Ok song"
:bg: She danced to it and was wowed by her dark lipstick during the closeup at the beginning
:ua: "Ooh, this is nice, isn't it?" ;)
 :al: She missed these performances
:be: She danced to it without saying anything, I let you interpret her body language
:lv: :il: :by: :rs: :ie: :lt: :sl: :dk: :ge: "This isn't worth anything" xqueenbitch #sorrynotsorry

So my parents both loved Georgia - they got super into the performance and thought it looked/sounded really great (they've befriended the music director for a music festival in my hometown, and they're going to make a long shot push to get them there xheat). I showed my mum :de: since she wanted to know what they were sending. 30 seconds in, she said "yeah, there's nothing good about this," and when the costume reveal happened, she just about kicked off.

Not my mom, but my boyfriend's comments who is a casual ESC viewer with a solid grasp of music theory. We watched some clips today.

Here are his non-verbatim comments:

Serbia: She sings in a band, huh? It's obvious with the way she sings. What an odd staging though.

Norway: Such a messy composition, lackluster staging and mediocre performer. This wouldn't and shouldn't qualify.

Macedonia: This is so dated and uninviting. This needs an underlying bass beat of sorts.

Azerbaijan: This has all requisites of a winning formula except for an appropriate singer. She needs a vocal coach, she sings a note lower than she should be and can't reach the high notes. She's definitely chosen for the overall package because she looks fantastic and has a great stage presence, but her vocal delivery isn't top notch.

Australia: Her voice and staging is spotless. I love her adlibs and her vocal rapport with her backing vocalists. This will be in the top 5.

Bulgaria: I love the mix of East and West on this one, very catchy and I love her costume. This needs a proper dance routine though

Ukraine: This is a masterpiece in terms of composition and performance. She's vocally spotless and the chord progression works perfectly and brings out the emotions of the song well. (his favorite)

Belgium: She fills the stage really well, a total performer. I wish their choice of LED backdrop wasn't too distracting.

San Marino: I can't believe this didn't qualify. He performed so well and looked great on stage.

Spain: Great singer and catchy song, but she lacks stage presence.

Malta: This has winner written all over it. If I were to bet for a winner, I'll put my money on this. It's contemporary, uplifting and well performed.

Croatia: She's a powerhouse. She yodels parts of the song, she's definitely vocally capable. Her aesthetics and her vocals match the song so well. I see why people would love this.

Armenia: Well thought out staging, spotless vocals. This isn't an easy song to sing.

Moldova: What the hell was that?!

Finland: What a vocal mess and this looks so unprofessional, It's as if she asked her girlfriends to come along with her on stage. At least, she looks like she's enjoying herself on stage.

Netherlands: Fantastic song and performance, but his rapport with the camera is so odd. He gazes with too much intensity.

Sweden: Yet again, Sweden could win once more. This so contemporary and mainstream that it will appeal to a lot of people. I mean come on, it's been on Spotify's top playlist for a while, it is quite an approachable piece. It's an effortless performance, it's not a hard song to sing in any case. It's essentially a song that anyone can sing. This is to their advantage because it's easier to remember songs that you can catch yourself singing.

My parents (dad mostly ofc) were amused by Armenian song and performance
Mum liked :hr: dress (high five ma) and she found the :hu: singer extremely handsome, on the other hand she bashed :ru: song saying it´s mediocre af, but the performance is outstanding and it´s successfully selling it, unfortunately (high five ma again)

My mum likes Sweden, Spain, France and Austria from what I can remember. She wants Austria to win.

Going through the thread, it's actually very interesting to see how :hr: seems to be pretty well-received among the "regular viewers". xthink And no comments about the dress. xthink

Exactly! Both my mum and brother were very fond of :hr: (although my bro said "wtf is she wearing? but who cares, i like the song"). Furthermore, a close friend of mine also mentioned :hr: as his favorite song, so yeah! I think you guys might do better than you expect...

So, after semi 2, my mum shockingly revealed herself as a fan of :pl:. Guess our tastes in music might not be that similar after all.

Meanwhile, my dad and my thirteen year old sister united to make terrible sarcastic remarks throughout the show. ;______;

Haha, I feel you. My Dad cannot stand Eurovision either. I guess what Mans said at the start of the Semi Final 2 in his (hilarious) song was right... you either love it or hate it :D

Directly after she did so, I told her that she’s most likely alone with that opinion and I honestly couldn’t imagine anyone else voting for that song.

Well… turns out she’s not so alone after all. xshifty
