Well, the rest of family isn't too much into ESC, but we watch it pretty much every year together and that makes a lot of fun. :D

Mum (and sister as well) really loved Hungary in 2014 and got very angry after Conchita won. :D Armenia in 2014 was also their common favorite.

They also loved Mans.

My mum hasn't listened to the songs yet, but I sent her the links to the videos today. I guess she will like Poland and Austria. Maybe Romania, since she liked Avantasia and is a fan of Meat Loaf's music.

Well, obviously I don't know my mum too well :D
Austria is not her cup of tea ("too much Kate Ryan") and she does like the Polish singer, but the song... "not bad, but much better songs in the contest".
She liked Macedonia most! Then Belgium. These are her favs ATM.

I've shown her very few of the songs so far... Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Austria and Hungary. She did like Italy and Austria a lot from first listen, as I predicted. Both are very much what she'd like, and well, so do I. But I should do a full listening over the weekend.

So my mum got the weirdest mind ever... She just can't decide.
I'd like to tell you a little story
She instantly loved Ireland and The Netherlands, she also likes France. (I've shown her a youtube recap with all off the songs)
But Estonia... (my favourite ) I've already listened to it for about... a thousand times?
So of course my mother already knew about this song more or less. In the last months I even came to her sometimes and played it to her (which actually took me sooo much courage, haha), but she wasn't really listening.
Once I asked her: "How do you even like it? You never said anything about it. xwhistle" "Well, it's okaaay I guess..." Not really enthusiastic
Okay, some days later she caught me listening to "Play" again. She said: "Naaah, when will you stop listening to that song? It don't like it at aaaaall. Really really don't like it xfaint" Uhm... okay, that's a clear response  She actually looked quite disgusted. xshrug

So I kept talking about my love to Estonia and Jüri and the song (I actually hate talking about those kind of things to my mum, but I just had to spread my love everywhere  help...)
But I guess she never even listened... Because I told her sooo sooo often how incredibly happy I am about the fact that Jüri won Eesti Laul and I think she still had no idea what I was even talking about.
Then, after such a long time, she actually asked me: "Would you show me your favourite?"
So of course I did, and she said: "Aaaaah!! THAT song. Oh god didn't you show me that song already half a year ago?? God, you listen to that every day."
"Yeeees, because it's awesome :mrgreen::mrgreen:"
"Yes, think so too. It really is."
Whaaat??? xwhatxthinkxfacepalm I don't get her!!!
I asked her what happened to her that she suddenly changed her opinion that much.
"I actually disliked it? Oh... Well. Now I like it. Would be very happy to see him winning Eurovision."
Okay......

And since then we sing "Play" together every day.

Happy eeend!

(god I'm such trash, and also it's very late already, please excuse me)

I've played her quite a few songs from the various selections and those already selected, and the one that she loves the most is Frans. Her favourite song has won the last 5 Eurovisions in a row.

Shoot me now.

So, yesterday my family had our 10th annual Eurovision-listening, where we during the afternoon listened through this years Eurovision-songs. This time it was the usual me, my mom and my little brother, but also my big brother, who is a bit of a anti-eurovision guy, but wanted to join us this time! :) We gave all songs points from 0-5, halfs were accepted, and this is how it would end in each semi and the final, if we were to decide! (The colours stand for: Me (Yellow), Mom (Pink), little brother (Green) and big brother (Blue) :D

Semi 1:

Well my mother has a strong dislike for Eurovision since the trash years of 2004-2008.
So I was pretty surprised when she liked :lv: after she overheard me listening to it. After showing her some other songs she also likes :hr: hopefully if try I hard enough I might make her vote for it in the final (I did the same thing for :de: in 2010).

Schlager, I love that Georgia is your family favourite. There is for sure a market for this kind of song. It could be our shock qualifier.

As expected, I started playing this year's songs and my mum dislikes them all. For example: Russia

So, not my mum's fav but a good friend that is not into ESC that much, that's his review :

He likes :au: but thinks it's a grower and he could like it more but he needs more listen so at the same time, says it fails at being an ESC song.
:ru: hated the first listening, thinks it's a grower too, lot of money to make it look cheap (for the MV), at the end he likes it but not as much as :au:
:de: song not that bad, she's very cute
:fr: could win but he's over this kind of music that are overplayed on french radio.
:be: it's fresh between all these power ballads
:bg: very good verses, great pre-chorus, disappointing chorus
:az: they won with something worse so...
:is: very nice song, very cheap staging.
:by: good chorus
:se: :pl: :ro: :ee: :at: :lt: :il: :al: :md: awful
:mk: that's so bad
:uk: far better than recent years, still very bad
:am: :hr: :mt: :cz: :ua: they sound exactly the same, nothing stands out, and the MV are competing in "best lake view in the beginning of the MV"
:ch: nice, good song
:ge: why is an eastern country doing Belgian Rock ? When Soulwax meets Sharko/Ginzhu, likes it
doesn't think anything of them :fi: :cy: :rs:
:gr: sounds like politic rap
:hu: same field as :se:, :nl: (boring) or :lv: (btw he likes :lv: but it's missing something)
:me: what's this mess ?
:sm: of course this shit is from San Marino, who else ?
:dk: old boysband...very very bad, "take that" wannabe
:ie: pointless ?
 strange but different from all the others power ballads, likes it , :au: has still the best ballad.
:sl: doesn't even remember the song

Winning song : :au: :ru: or :fr:

I recently played the songs for my mom and asked her what her favorite is. I would like to add that we are American, and she's never heard of Eurovision. She didn;t like any of the songs from 2016, but she said she would vote for Austria because that's where The Sound of Music took place... Then I showed her a video of all the winners since 1956, and she likes "Waterloo" so she might change her vote to Sweden.

put on one of those "eurovision 2016 recap" videos in the background while my mam was doing a crossword. she only perked her head up at the old version of I Didn't Know :sm: she's in love with Serhat

EDIT: she's not a fan of the disco version, loves his hat in the video tho. guess i'd better keep my mam in the garden during the first semi :oops:

I let my husband listen to the first 25 songs today (2nd semi + big 6).
Notes: my hubby isn't interested in Eurovision at all, he even doesn't know the German song and he is actually a fan of punkrock. I just played the songs, not the music videos, and I didn't tell him the countries before I got his opinion). He is 35, btw. I was curious how the songs appeal to someone who listened to them for the first time. We had a good laugh this evening while listening bc some of his comments were so funny.

Most of the time he was like 'meh' 'boring'.

Worst songs: Albania, Denmark (he was laughing all the time about the cheesy lyrics "soldiers of love"), Belgium ("well sung but absolutely not my kind of music"), Sweden ("I hate this kind of voice/singing")

His faves: Romania, France

Quite nice: Slovenia, Spain, Ireland, Latvia

He also liked the German song "if there was a studio version of it but her live singing is awful". Then I told him it was "our" entry this year. He said it was ok for German standards.

Haven't shown my mum all the songs, but she hates Ukraine&Latvia (lol) and when we watched Eurovision: You Decide, her favourite was Jake & Joe.

My dad really liked Cyprus & he found Belgium catchy
