Personally I have always felt that the reason things went off the rails as much as they did post 2003 was due to how much the BBC over-hyped the entry; they legit thought that they were going to be a global sensation, bigger than Britney Spears (No, really!) and they had hit solid gold. They hyped them up to hell and back to an extent never seen before or since, gave them their own Eurovision review show (where one of them said the Turkish entry dressed like a prostitue or words to that effect) and pushed the hell out of that song and them.
Then it failed, and the professional embarrassment was such that they couldn't accept they got it wrong and pissed the public's money up the wall on an act that didn't even have its original line-up come the contest so blamed it on politics, an idea carried by that twerp Wogan till he tied his career to the successes of Abrahams (but not before saying on his show that he couldn't possibly win because he was black).
I do feel that in the few years we have seen a shift and that the BBC does want to win, they just don't know how to win, or how to find the act to do it. And that there are too many people in the process and wider industry that would treat any selection show like an X Factor-lite to make something worth while.
No it's definitely an okay song. I just can't imagine it finishing in the top5. And with the talent that UK has at its disposal, they should be finishing top5 every single year. In terms of doing the least with the most, UK is probably the best.It would be a bit harsh to have this finishing in the bottom 5 imo.
it's definitely not the worst song ever tbh.

I think 2022-2025 UK gave a good idea that they're trying, but after Sam Ryder they couldn't find someone a wider audience could get behind/find interesting.I do feel that in the few years we have seen a shift and that the BBC does want to win, they just don't know how to win, or how to find the act to do it.
