Noooo they'll make SuRie perform as 2nd or 3rd, I'm sure. I think a stronger and more uplifting entry from semi finals will open the show.
Watching the last couple of ESC finals on YouTube, a question that I've never asked here occured to me and I'm wondering if anyone here knows...
The hosts always say that you can vote by phone or SMS, but the UK viewers never have the option of of sending an SMS. Wonder why that is, as I think more casual viewers would be inclined to send an SMS instead of calling. C'mon BBC, it's the 21st century
Yes it is indeed very odd that they don't use it now. I actually discussed it with someone the other day who was asking why I voted with a phone number and not sms. You're right, more people would vote via SMS than they would with a phone call, and even more with the app... We actually used to have sms voting in our NFs so it's not like they can't do it...
5. Why are you offering voting via Mobile Short Dial Codes instead of Text Voting?
Text voting cannot be included in the Eurovision Song Contest UK vote due to the relatively short periods in which the vote is open and during which the result needs to be provided and verified. There is the risk of potential delays within the mobile networks at busy times which could result in text votes not being received within the period the vote is open. With a phone call, if the exchange is busy you will hear an engaged tone, however with text/SMS you would not know if there is any late delivery of your vote (causing it to not be registered). There are no such potential network delays with Mobile Short Dial Codes other than busy tones at local exchange level with heavy traffic.
In addition, call attempts to Mobile Short Dial Codes outside of the vote open period, or to numbers no longer in use, are non-chargeable to callers, unlike text where charges may still apply.
The advantage of using telephone calls for voting rather than text voting is that the caller knows at the time of the call that their vote has been counted and also that they have been charged for their vote. They will also know from receiving an engaged tone if they did not get through and that they can then just press redial to try again. The same is not true of text voting as the texter has to wait for a confirmation message back from their mobile network operator which may take some time to arrive or which may not arrive at all.
Austria: “Nobody But You” Rejected from UK Selection

Although I don't remember our commentators saying (I didn't listen all so much to them though), apparently the BBC rejected the song for our NF.
Yeah, Scott Mills or Rylan mentioned this during the Austria postcard that rumour had it that we had rejected the song for our National Final

Lol if it is really true then I am in total shock. I don't think think Austria is anything particularly worth writing home about, but it's a much stronger song than anything from our NF. How many other songs got rejected that were stronger?
I strongly believe that a pre-contest, online vote from a selection of say 36 songs with the top 6 advancing to the live National Final would be a good idea. It might help boost public interest again, and help to give a strong line-up that the public can be fully behind since they've had a hand in shaping the selection
