Brothers and sisters, holding hands together, believing in chasing rainbows and so on and so on, honestly, this could become a case study of just how bad bad writing can be. Worst thing is, you look at the woman in shocked disbelief and realise she actually believes the crap she's singing is super valid and even unheard of. In addition, she's not as good a singer as she thinks she is and her performance wasn't as good as most people´s thinking just because she did a litle screaming in the end and looked all serious and flushed in the face. She had her flaws.

BBC is to blame for this. They've buried the show on channel 2 in the middle of the week at 7.30 pm. Who but die hard fans who enjoy this kind of thing would remember to watch it? This kind of public can't be trusted as the public on the 12th May will be quite different and will shrink away from this in horror. Anyway, I understand why many fans are happy. They've been craving for Mariette for years now...

This is like Mariette on steroids.:|

While that's entirely possible – and it's a perfectly fine reason to rate the song highly yourself – I'm not sure that it bodes well for the UK's score at Eurovision this year. When (one presumes) the large majority of televoters are casual audiences who haven't heard the songs before, growers don't really get the time to shine, and it more comes down to what can make the biggest impact on that first or second listen.

This is completely subjective statement, however, I think "Storm" is more vote friendly than "Never Give Up on You" by Lucie Jones. If it came 15th, I see why not this one doesn't.

Quite decent, but definitely not among my favourite acts. Granting it a :5: so far. Let's see how it all goes.

I ain't assuming nor stating that you're wrong on everything you said. However, we must take into account the fact that "Never Give Up on You" has been stunningly performed by Lucie with strong vocals and a marvellous staging.

I don't really think that the :uk: will succeed in doing such a revamp with SuRie's entry and make the best out of it. I ain't seeing it as a piece of crap, but I just can't imagine it awing everyone in the grand final.

Now, let's wait and see. ;)

I never rated Storm before the contest and was caught up in the Asanda, this is so fresh and exciting wave among Eurofans. Once Surie walked on stage and by the time she got to the first chorus everyone in the audience was smitten and there was no way she was going to lose. She reminded me of Annie Lennox. I much prefer it to last year's song. If she can repeat that performance we may see Uk on the left side of the scoreboard. It was also interesting to see EU flags outnumbering UK flags by at least 20 to 1. The presenter before the show said we could wave flags only after each performance. We then did several flag waving warming up to old Eurosongs. We were then told we were not able to wave flags at all, which met with loud boos and defiance. My guess is the BBC were terrified of the brexit moron politicians saying they are unpatriotic showing EU flags to the nation. I haven't watched it back yet so wonder if they showed the large discrepancy between the flags.

Even if Never Give Up On You wasn't the song with the most instant appeal, the staging and Lucie's performance was praised by almost everyone. 'Storm' doesn't have anywhere near the levels of staging potential and, based on last night's performance, SuRie doesn't have the same emotion in her performance that Lucie had last year

Tbh I think selecting "Storm" was a fitting end to an embarrassing selection. This was definitely the worst Eurovision: You Decide, and it was not a format that was very good to start with. I expect we will do badly this year so hopefully that will be enough reason to convince the BBC to abolish.

The whole show was just poor, nothing to do with Mans and Mel (who are good hosts, I would like them to do the semis so long as they have Ana Matronic too lol), but it was just basically a cliche old-Eurovision fest.

If the BBC want to put in effort next year then the best NF is YCNY 2009 style. That was brilliant, genuinely got the country interested and was totally focused on making a great Eurovision entry, not sending a shitty one while proclaiming you're standing on the same stage as ABBA... YCNY 2009 was talked about in the newspapers, magazines, on telly, etc, E:YD 2018 didn't even make it to the "What to Watch" review in the newspaper yesterday... given the main television on a Wednesday night is just Emmerdale and Coronation Street, that's pretty terrible.

Presuming they won't want to put in effort, then I liked MYMU, either 2004-2006 style or 2007 style. They were definitely watchable, the first format was good because it incorporated Eurovision-type voting letting each nation and region have their say, the second format managed to incorporated a quarter-final, semi-final and final round all in one night. Both were more of an "event" that you actually got into watching, rather than just hearing a bunch of songs and having a single vote wid-week on BBC Two...

But frankly I was quite happy with the internal selection process and wouldn't complain about returning to that either.

Ok, I slept over it, I calmed down... and I have to apologize to those who truly love the song. Yesterday, full of emotions and disappointment, some of my comments may have been too biased by the fact that neither of my favorites won. I still don't really like the song, but I admit that I judged it too harshly. This will certainly not become a grower for me, but I think it'll end somewhere in the middle of my personal ranking.

I think it's a super safe choice and thus UK will not go far this year once again. I don't hate it, it's quite nice to listen, but nothing stands out here. The last time I really, really like their entry was 2009. Edit: 2013 was good also

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Feels like the UK stepped up their game this year! A few good entries in the national selection.

Actually I dont find Storm too bad. With the singer and the song UK will deliver a package a bit more than average. I am hoping they will work hard on improving this visually on stage. The UK might avoid bottom 5.
But by all means; this is UK, and they SHOULD be able to provide something that could fight for a top 5! But for me this is a step in the right direction, having in mind the aweful stuff UK has sent for the last years.

The worst part of this entry is not the song itself (dated & common),
but the fact that she thinks she is a BIG singer. xfacepalm

It might be the wrong slot for it, last time we had a national final on a Saturday in 2009, the final got 4.87m.

Obviously it is the wrong slot. But there is no escaping the fact that people were incredibly turned off from this year in particular... Last year in the same slot it managed almost half a million more viewers. And it is 200 hundred thousands less than just ANY old program normally gets on BBC Two at that time. Last week Winterwatch was in that slot (Big Brother for animals lol) and it is very popular and pulls in millions not thousands...

MyHeartIsYours I edited the post where you originally brought it up and removed the sentence about the flags as I figured you wouldn't want to lose the rest of the post. Just thought I'd let you know.

Also, our song is terrible, as was our NF. Back to normal service after a surprisingly decent entry last year.
